    I super appreciate the people who make these DIY videos🙏 I just had to replace both of my headlights. It was getting to the point that I could no longer drive it at night, safely. I was originally quoted $600; ($240 ea + $120 labor). I decided to check out a DIY for replacing them and realized that I could do it myself. I also got 2 brand new headlights for $92 + $14 (s/h). Total was $106.00. I put them in and they're perfect!!! Took me almost 1 1/2hrs and I saved $494 doing it myself. VERY NICE👍
    I do have to apologize...it never even occurred to me to record the entire job. I'ma idiot🙄 There's no DIY for fixing stupid🤣🤣

    Perhaps the best of the focus "cold air" videos. Most others just say Buy A Part without telling you what to look for in it. Thorough, thought out.

      "Backyard" mechanics are the very BEST!!! My dad showed me everything I know about car's and being a "fixer" of just about EVERYTHING. He also told me that I should always have a good doctor, attorney, and a mechanic. Even though at different times in my life I may have changed those 3 up, he was absolutely right👍

    On October 2022, I went ahead and did this mod with a Spectre #8131 filter. I followed your directions up to the cutting. However at 4:27, I did it slightly different. The inside of the adapter has an "indention" to which you can put over the MAFS tube on one of the flanges seen at 4:47. This prevents any sliding and offers a tighter seal around the plastic tube.
    Unfortunately the rubber boot tore on mine so I used one from a 2008 Focus (including the vacuum & PCV hoses).
    As of lately, I range between 38 and 33 miles per gallon with this CAI set up and the 08 Focus tubing.

    thanks for the video. i did exactly has you had shown. except that the plastic tray was not cut. i just broke the plastic welds with a screw driver and therefore it is larger. the install was easy but the plastic inner fender screws will break, so anyone doing this should have some spare plastic screws.
    the spectra filter 8136 was only 42$ with delivery. i have a scan tool that will show the intake temperature, although i didn't take a reading before with the stock intake. the stock intake was badly clogged so i expect there to be a big improvement in fuel economy. i'll report the results in a few days after testing. thanks for your video.

    • @cocodog85
      @cocodog85 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      after a few days of use and with my autotool providing the data i have found that the intake temperatures fluctuate widely. at hwy speeds there is about a 5 -10 degree F increase in temp from ambient outside temp. once the car is at a stop light or in city traffic the difference is much higher. this is in a northern winter climate at this time.
      induction noise is much higher. at idle it is easily noticeable. at steady state hwy there is no difference since the induction noise is drowned out by regular wind noise. at full throttle at any speed the sound is quite loud.
      i suspect that there is much less induction resistance to intake airflow and this easier breathing will translate to better fuel economy. i'll report my mileage in a few weeks.

    • @cocodog85
      @cocodog85 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      after a month, i find that i have on average 30mpg (imperial gallons) city and 42 mpg hwy (70mph). no engine check lights. however the loose filter does rattle at idle, which was fixed by putting a foam rubber pad on the plastic tray that is bellow the filter. overall i'm pleased with the result and it was an easy install. i recommend this mod...so far.

    What a pain in the butt. Looks more complicated than changing plugs on a typical car. Focus, the plugs are right there with no obstruction but a damn pain for a simple air filter that takes 1 minute to change anywhere else. I ought to get a oil change and tell them to see if the air filter needs changing. I bet I get lied to.

    Sounds like it would have been better to open the old unit and find a new filter element to replace the "permanent" one ...

    • @foxgodrecords2752
      @foxgodrecords2752 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Seriously. Either buy the mod or make one (shorty or long tube). You DO NOT want to replace the air box. There is no "opening" the OEM air box. I have seen ONE guy open that box. It is factory sealed. Inside is 5 or 6 layers of foam -- like seat foam -- that make up the "air filter".
      Dorman makes a modded box that uses a paper element, but you still have to take the wheel off and peel back the fender well when it needs to be replaced.
      I'm planning on doing a shorty mod to mine, but I'm going to build a shield for mine to get more undercar air into it.
