What have we learnt in 2020:
Lucy doesn’t like cheese

Peanut butter is one of the best foods ever made. It keeps for a long time, it's dense in protein and it tastes lovely
There a reason why peanut butter/paste like substances are often included in humanitarian food packages. Long shelf life and dense in protein and calories.

Somehow, I have ZERO regrets for spending 18 minutes of my life watching James and Lucy make and eat peanut butter sandwiches. Tom, you were a bit of a disappointment, however.
Can just imagine Clarkson’s face whilst listening to James explain the difference between butter and peanut butter and their individual qualities.

It always strikes me odd when people never had peanut butter and apples. That was one of my favorite snacks as a kid, and I still love it.
Foodtribe definitely needs more crew with an open palette. Apart from James of course because all the other cameos they are extremely picky of the most common things, it's not like he is asking them to eat frogs or bugs yet they object to a ton of stuff.

I love how Lucy Brown always makes James eat anything he's made before she'll even agree to try it... and yet never trusts his opinion of it anyway. And that sandwich at the end is a perfect example of why.

I get the feeling that Tom is repressing some childhood memories that he associates with peanut butter. Peanut butter is not an exciting enough food to be that passionately hated just because of its taste and texture.
I was thinking the same thing, I'll bet he choked on a peanut butter sandwich as a kid, which is why the texture bothers him so much. But, English peanut butter could be awful, I have no idea. Smooth American Jif for me please

A fairly large part of the world doesn't like peanut butter. The western populations have the affinity for it but it just doesn't fit into the palate of most countries. It's like root beer to non Americans. American can't believe other people don't like it.

I've just moved back to New Zealand after being in the UK for a number of years, I cannot describe the joy I felt when I realised you can now buy Lurpack in NZ.
I've never had it. I think country crock might be an American equivalent though. It's "butter" that's spreadable right out of the refrigerator.

@@mattsmith4424 that's why you need to kinda build up "layers" of it. Don't just carve an amount of it out, you need to just blend it up almost with the knife by building up small amounts with each movement of the knife. This softens it.

My dad taught me peanut butter and banana, PB and honey, and PB cheese; I figured out PB and apple on my own. Never did we do any of those plus honey, seeing your experiment I wonder if he'd found the combination too sweet as well.

Strawberry jam and cheese is one of the greatest sandwiches you can have (next to a plain old smooth peanut butter sandwich of course). I've been having those since childhood and I still love them today. White bread, butter, strawberry jam, boring old cheddar cheese - amazing sandwich.

I've eaten peanut Butter and Lime Marmalade for years. Another fav of mine is peanut butter, chocolate spread and honey. It's kind of like snickers is a sandwich. By the way, it must be crunchy, not that smooth stuff.

It kinda enrages me that Lucy and Tom are unable to eat some very basic foods.
They aren't natural foods. Nothing wrong with that. Cheese is curded cow's milk, cow's milk is not made for humans anyway, it's made for calves. If anything, cheese is not a normal human food! Peanut butter? The guy doesn't mind peanuts, that's a natural food designed for humans - nuts. Peanut butter , however, is unnatural, it's a processed product. These are hardly even ''foods'' they are just something you can eat that lands well on the palette and feel full afterwards.

In the states, jelly is made from the juice of the fruit, jam is made from the meat of the fruit. Jam is the equivalent to marmalade.
We eat slices of Apple with PB frequently. PB and syrup or honey are common as well. Banana also works, just ask Elvis.
Don't forget peanut butter in a celery stalk or on carrot sticks.
You are correct about Jam and Jelly. However we also have marmalade and recognize that as a separate and distinct thing from jam. Also, if you go beyond jam and contain chunks/bits of fruit then you have preserves.
Peanut butter with gherkin pickles on terrible white bread is phenomenal.

Yep, if I'm putting mayo or mustard on a sandwich, I always make sure to put it on both pieces of bread, not just only on one like a rookie/amateur mistake ;)
