I've got a set. Dropped at an angle, with a heavy plate. Did, in fact, bend the sleeve the rod rides in - inward, so that it pinched and jammed. That said, it WAS an easy fix. Pulled it apart (with some swearing - they don't come apart nearly as easy when they're jammed like that), stuck a long rod in, and spread things out a bit.
I'm moving into a house soon and looking to build a home gym. Reviews like these are super helpful for me as one of the main things I'm looking at are adjustable dumbells. Great Stuff!
"Sure, sometimes I feel like I need the wrist stamina of a teenage boy as I'm cranking the handles..." is classic Gluck. As usual and as always great video. With my 50 lbs old style power blocks I feel like I have been sitting on the fence to wait and see the advancements, and potential price drops, with all the variations of these out there. These come so close, and I am someone who really doesn't drop my weights. This could be a winner. Thank you, Sir, and I hope all is well with Winnie and family.
Just got these using ur discount code after searching for a good brand for over a month. Thanks for making my mind finally and getting me some money off
I am glad I spent the cash to just get normal dumbells. Cleaned up during covid buying from a gym that was closing down his gym and selling everything.
Bought the 8552s thinking I’d get the repins later and the small adjustments were better under 50 lbs. Problem #1: They’re huge and I don’t want two sets eating up space. “Problem” #2: I love these after ~2 months with them. Just used your code to grab the upgrade and stand. Thanks for the $60!
I would rate these above snode and nuobell. The micro adjustments are clutch and they seem to be durable enough. I think the only reason why they aren't more popular is because of the peculiar weight changes. IMO that doesn't matter at all and the small weight jumps are much more important.
I had nuobells and never had a problem with them but needed more weight, I was gonna wait for the Rep peppins but the price went up $100 before they were even released. I decided to go with the iron masters. No regrets, I caught a great sale and ended up getting 135lb dumbbells for $850. Takes a little longer to adjust weights but zero concern of durability and extremely compact if you have the heavy handle kit. 100% recommend
I got the same deal on IM dumbbells and a pair of kettlebells with the stand. Really happy with it and it takes other standard plates without budging, so a pair of 25s on the ends works to get really heavy.
Kensui has a similar dumbbell handle made of aluminum for $99 a pairs. They claim it can handle up to 150 lbs. I ordered a pair with 300 lbs of standard pancake weight for about $500. I do hope their claim is true.
Good thorough review Gluck thank you. One note about the Ironmasters though - they've had 1.25lb plates available for many years to hit 2.5lb increments.
Appreciate your reviews a lot. I just bought a house in May and I'm getting ready to turn the 3rd car garage into a home gym for Black Friday sales. Definitely looking into adjustable dumbbells and I was going to go with the Reppins but these are almost half the price with your code so they seem like a great deal.
Got them last Black Friday and love them ! Wait for Black Friday and getting the full weight set and stand is a lot more affordable, but still not cheap
I have these. Version 2. I really like them however BE WARNED....I ordered them on their website, took over 2 months from order to delivery from Feb 15h to April 23rd. Kept having to follow up and delay notices. But yah, when they finally came they're great. Easy to set up and look super cool.
Thanks for this review. Looking forward to the Rep x Pepin review. Glad to see the adjustable dumbbell market get better. I have NuoBells. I like them. But, do plan on replacing them with the Rep x Pepin adjustable dumbbells.
I've been using the Trulap's for the last month to aid in my shoulder/bicep tendon recovery. I have the lighter set and figure if I or my son need heavier we'll get the add on kit. They are quite attractive and the kg weight increments aren't a problem in actual use. I plan on getting/making some drop pads for when I start using heavier weights
We need more chrome options on weights! I'm not in the market for something like these, but that alone would sway me to these over other brands (along with the positive review here, of course). Seriously though. Chrome needs to make a comeback in the weight space.
2:15 It's possible, with a couple addon plates. First, a 1.25 pounder to get the 4 kg handle to just over 10 pounds. Now you have 3⅓ pound increments, almost. 3 of those is 10 pounds! Then you just need a ¾ kg plate to get the in-between weight. 13⅓ pounds + 0.75 kg is right around 15 pounds.
They’ve gone from a gen 2 to gen 4 already?!! Wow. I love the smaller jumps on mine. I don’t care if they aren’t even pound jumps. They’re really nice dumbbells. And I have platemate magnets to help make sure I can hit just about every pound. :)
Good stuff. Quick idea if you ever do an Iron Masters follow up: add the heavy handle plate, it makes the handle length much more like fixed, and easier to balance in hand.
That's something we addressed in our Quick-Lock review. In comparisons like this it's difficult to add in every detail of each think we're comparing to.
I have the Ironmaster, but i never drop them and i will never do it because it’s my personal gym equipment and i love taking care of all the stuff is in my homegym.
These seem pretty solid but I'm still waitin on the Rep-x-Pepins. Once the production versions are out, and places like Gluck and GGR review them I'll make my call.
These dumbbells appear to have sharp metal edges. Most competitors have some kind of smooth plastic coating, while these ones look like they could induce injury if rubbed against during training.
I don't like that they're perfectly circular. I didn't want to carry the cradle with me to the bench, and if I put these down, they'll roll away on my not-perfectly-level floor. Other than that, they sound great.
@GlucksGym. At the 57 second mark, I love the yellow of the bench & rack. Also love the sloid build of the bench. So who makes/puts out these two items please?
That's Prime's Shorty bench and the Rogue FM Twin stack. Twin stack review will be out soon. Here's our Shorty review th-cam.com/video/5VIRdwfMCa0/w-d-xo.html
My powerblocks were useful when I got them, but if I had it to do over again I’d go with something else. It’s slow to shift between weights unless you’re making pretty big jumps.
I have a pair and think they're gorgeous. They're super useful for microloading shoulder raises. I'm not a huge fan of the handle though (a bit too thick for me, pause)

Have you reviewed the minibeast 100 pound adjustable dumbells? They are 399 dollars each on special right now? I really want to know if they are garbage or not.
So what is to prevent anyone from lifting these over their head, rotating their wrist and accidentally adjusting the weight setting and having thin plates raining down on their skull? If you were to clean these to do some overhead pressing I wonder if the angular momentum could potentially cause an accidental twist?
@GlucksGym excellent. These seemed like a solid option and I could even put them in a bar thing that holds dumbbells. I don't have room for a full squat rack so I'm kinda limited to bar + bands, adjustable dumbbells and stuff like the freak athlete Nordic hyper
I keep saying this. At the moment these are the best adjustable dumbbells. I already had nuobell, I also had Ironmaster. I have had these dumbbells for almost 2 years (I live in Europe and we have a different name for these dumbbells here). There are no better adjustable dumbbells at the moment
what brand do you have? I see there are multiple brands(braingain, lioninside, lmx,...) with dumbbell that looks the same but didn't find way to determine are they actually the same (same build quality) or just knockoffs
