This is the mother of all improvs lesson here!! Learn this one and you can spend hours playing confidently on your piano. Thank you for this absolutely the best lesson on improvisation.
@@PianoWithJonny a wanto do stydy that concept in all keys and in a much bigger chrod progression, what videos of yours you orwhatever you would recomend ? tkss
I just subscribed! I can't wait to check out all of your content. I am a 57 year old woman who decided 6 months ago, to re-learn piano (keyboard) after taking lessons as a 9-12 year old 45 plus years ago! I'm not shooting for a chance to play Carnegie Hall, only to amuse myself, just for fun, (and an occasional family member I force to listen) 😅.
Every time I start one of your vids, my first thought is: a young Ralph Fiennes. Great shapes for solo melodies... just tinkering around with solo descant horn, cello, oboe, choir... they all sound so fresh! Thanks, Johnny!
Org it's so beautiful, I have watching your programs five months I have lernend lots how to play piano beautifuly. Thank so much. God bless you. I am from South Australia.
Alright, Jonny. I saw this on my feed and let the impression play a little before i realized that i truly enjoy your style as an educator. Seeing how you play and explain this is a gateway to your eye in music, which i think you have a unique one at that. I often look for ways to improve and i think your channel is the one for me. You have my devotion as a student and fan. I appreciate your work. Thank you
i love to play the piano i have for about 30 years. however, i still can't play from sheet music. oh, i can read music. but somehow, my hands and my eyes don't care for the task, and i don't posses the short term memory so i can remember what i did last time in order to play it again and make corrections., i end up hearing the same song many times trying to read it. and i rather don't like playing other peoples' music; i'd rather just put in a CD if someone wants that. so, instead of playing Beethoven, Fur Elise... again (music student's have been playing that jewel for a mere 200 years, conventional stuff. ) or anything else, i make it up. and this technique is just the new thing i've been looking for. and this demo is the only way i could have learned it. well done
The chord shapes for the relative major sound great. For example just play the shapes from this video with am and dm instead of C and F. It will be 2347 instead of 7125.
This is fantastic! Beautifully played and systematically taught. Rarely do I get moved by a piano lesson :) Thanks a lot! Best regards, Henric in Sweden
This is an incredible lesson. Really was one of the most inspiring and easily explained example of improv. I'm a bassist and guitarist and I've never had any lessons, but this was so lovely to hear, I could have looped parts of this and just chilled out. I took what you've done and made a small melody in my DAW using this... I can't wait to watch more of your videos... I can't believe I've just found your channel... I'll check out your lessons and other material... thanks for sharing...
Thank you so much. The previous short comment by Mr. Hallberg from Sweden is so eloquent it is hard to add anything. Beautifully taught, very melodic. Soulful.
You make working with these chords understandable and motivating. I didn't know how to learn this stuff so I thought it would remain out of reach. Not anymore. Thank YOU!😀
Sure wish you had some just playing of these chords but you talk through the entire thing at all times. Thanks for these chords they are beautiful. I would like to combine them with some darker minor chords as well ,that would be cool.
Do I get it right that this is just the 4th degree of the c major scale? So it is F Lydian scale ?? Thanks for sowing this - really beautiful and fun. I love you show all the shapes and notes so it’s actually also very interesting to learn.
To play minor chords, every note stays the same except for the third of each respective chord. So for the C chord play E flat instead of E. For the F chord play A flat instead of A.
so I was wondering. Assuming this is all in C, wouldn't it be simpler to say this is a IV major and then III minor progression? F major and E minor? When he uses the 7 and 2 terminology that's confusing because it's saying you're using 2 keys to play in, but that's not really what's happening I don't think. I think the chord shapes part was helpful but the theory was offputting
Jonny, this is great stuff. As I was thinking about this, these chords look like inversions of C Add4 and G Add4. These would be the 1 and 5 chords of the key of C. These are also the notes you appear to be playing with your right hand. This seemed like a simpler way to remember the notes. Thoughts?

Best piano lesson that I saw in 10 years here

I have to tell you guys - this is incredible for amateurs and beginners!

Jonny. You are always one surprise that show us. Thank you for your generosity and long life
Many thanks!!! Please, make other videos like this!!
You are such a great teacher.
This is very helpful. Thanks. Could do a video on this with minor chords.
Please do and post. Looking forward to that as well
Flatten the 3rd and the 7th and do exactly the same thing....ie; root, flat3rd, 5th, flat7th and 9.
So for the C minor chord;
C, Eb, G, Bb, D.
As Boy Bergs said, it will be an m9 chord (1-b3-5-b7-9).
For example, play an Am9 (G-B-C-E) and then an Fm9 (G-Ab-C-Eb), sounds great.
@@Jesusistheway5724 oh right; relative minor. And that's why I don't have a TH-cam channel. Thanks for the diplomatic response 🙂

Beautiful 😻!

Brilliant bro bro 👍👍❤️
Amazing
Insta-subscribe after this one. Great lesson.
Good stuff :)
This that “come down to the altar” music
Great video! Could you show similar chord shapes in minor?
To play minor chords, every note stays the same except for the third of each respective chord. So for the C chord play E flat instead of E. For the F chord play A flat instead of A.
Since neither of these chords is dominant, it's helpful to know that they represent I and IV major seventh chords in the key of C.
so I was wondering. Assuming this is all in C, wouldn't it be simpler to say this is a IV major and then III minor progression? F major and E minor? When he uses the 7 and 2 terminology that's confusing because it's saying you're using 2 keys to play in, but that's not really what's happening I don't think. 言葉はわからないけどとても参考になる!!
Hey jimmy! Big fan of the technique does this work for minor keys as well?
