  • Back to November 1991 for this upload, where the highlight is seeing the class 50 hauled Valiant Thunderer railtour. 50 008 & 50 015 had been specially repainted for railtour duties at the end of calss 50 operation. We start at Plymouth and see the Night Riviera (my train to the south west) depart for Penzance before seeing operations at Paignton. There are shots of BR DMU's as well as a class 155. The tour arrives behind the 50s before emptying out and departing for Goodrington Sidings. We also capture a special working on the Paignton & Dartmouth Railway with a class 25, run especially for the railtour participants.

    the Sulzer engines in the 47 and 25 are deffinately the sounds of my childhood, certainly a 47 taking off into the night as we had just alighted from a train (Although I was getting off at Wolverhampton, on my way home rather than Plymouth, on the way out) Really rekindled some memories there, thank you so much mate.

    A great video. God i miss the clankety clank of the first gen units and the lottery about having a uniform set or a mixed class set. Back then that was such exiting times.

      The old DMU's were a joy, must could be couple together, the blue square coupling coded units which made up the bulk of the fleet. There were are oddities that could only be coupled within class.

    Hi Soi.
    Another great video!
    The first clip with the Riviera Sleeper service... I wonder if you'd mind me using it to illustrate a video I plan to make teaching railways modellers coach recognition so they can get the numbers on the model to reflect how the real trains ran?
    Obviously I'd cite your video and channel in the description.

      Hi, yes that sounds good to me! A win-win for us both.....Notice that it was quite a short set, not only had a Plymouth coach been just removed but it was winter so shorter than summer services....

      @@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Thanks very much!
      Yes, the winter set was shorter because it is used less.
      Summer formations were much longer at 10 coaches.
      Summer formations were:
      BSO+4x TSO+RMBT+FO+3xSLEP.

    Why don’t British locomotives/head end vehicles have a bright headlight??

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do now although it wasn't considered nesscessary until the late 1980s when BR started to fit older stock with high intensity headlights. The class 50s on this upload have one fitted for instance.

      As far as I know, new regs now state that if locos/dmu,s/emu's have high intensity LED lights fitted, they don't have to have yellow painted ends. I'm sure I read that somewhere.......

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joewalker2152 yes, the new 345 Crossrail stock have no yellow ends, nor the new Trans Pennine stock. Some of the Scottish Region locos had powerful headlights back in the 1970s as they went to some very remote places where the track maight easily be obstructed. And taht idea was taken forward with the class 50 refurb in the early 1980s and that started the ball rolling.....

      @@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Thank you for a polite response. I have an interest in the railways (always have since childhood) but, it's always nice to learn new facts from people who are far more knowledgeable on the subject than me.
      Oh, and by the way, I live in Paignton and used to love standing next to the level crossing as 50's, HST's, 37's and other classic BR loco's powered out of the station and up the incline towards Torquay.
      Once again, thank you.

      @@joewalker2152 My pleasure....sadly this is the only video i have ever taken at Paignton! I did work on the railways and managed to travel about quite a bit, and have an insiders knowledge of how the railway works as well as an enthusiast's knowledge of all things desperate!
