    Thanks for the memories!
My Grandfather was based at Bristol Bath Road and used to drive the 'Castles' and 'Kings' in the 1940s and 1950s.
I would spend a lot of my schoolboy years on Temple Meads in the 1970s/80s!
Sad to see what Bath Road Depot has become, and the old Royal Mail buildings.

Nice! I used to go there quite a lot in the mid 80s, Crompton up from Pompey, then I'd park myself at the south end of the station watching locos shuffling in and out of the depot. Thanks for this, great stuff.

    Great videos,
I love the fact that you manage to focus in on the loco names and numbers, really handy for modelling , a lot of video from this era just sweeps past and the numbers are a blur. Old VHS was very fuzzy, so it's even more impressive that you've captured such details,
    Thanks, I've subscribed,
    Cheers Rich

Thanks for your comments, i'm pleased to have been of help. I like to know what i am filming (if i can, sometimes they whizz by too fast!) so try and get the fleet numbers, happily i had a full sized VHS E180 tape camera, this meant i didn't need to transfer what i had filmed from a small tape to a full sized tape as i filed on the full sized tape! That kept the quality up happily......Still plenty more to come!

    Great video.
Bristol Temple Meads used to be a hive of traction back in the day.
Funny seeing blue and grey HST trailers with Inter city swallow power car since inter city executive was the inbetween livery!
    Hated the 155s.
Don't think anyone liked them back then.
The 33 invasion was very popular though.

What is the train that comes in at 7:21, hauled by a class 33 with a mixture of E and W region coaches with the NSE decal on the side? Was that a rail tour?

I used to get the '89' to and from Cardiff most weekends when I was a student in Portsmouth. The 'Poly' was right next to the line between Southsea and Harbour stations. I soon figured out that, for some reason, the 14:10 was diagrammed for a 47, as opposed to the usual 33, Not that I had anything against 33s, they look and sound lovely, but a 47 with '5 on', plus the fact that this was the only service that didn't stop at Westbury, would mean I would have a quick journey home to Wales. At Bristol, there would either be another loco waiting in the bay (where you were filming) to take the train back out, or the original loco would run round. As I said earlier, the main staple of this service was the 33, but you would occasionally get something different on the Cardiff to Bristol leg. I had a 50 one evening - needless to say I had my head out of the window quite a bit. @soi Thanks for the reminders of great times on British Rail

@@taffboyslim My pleasure! I do have some more shots of this route and i did catch a 47 on one working. And that was right at the end of loco hauled working. Once while filming at salisbury a 47 arrived hauling a 2 car DMU that had failed mechanically so it was put into traffic hauled by the 47. I rode it from salisbury all the way to Bristol TM, 47 033 was the loco, and we flew! We took off like a rocket at each station stop.....happy days!

Good video Class 158's took over the Portsmouth-Cardiff services in 1992 while 150/2's took over the Weymouth runs in the same year. Class 143's took over the Avonmouth services in 1991 though I might be wrong.
