well , i must say that was 6 mins 34 seconds of pure nostalgia, excellent footage. Made me want to cry at times when thinking of past times bashing the 50s plus seeing Newton Abbot what it was like compared to the effort today. Plus seeing 3 out of the 4 50s i never got for haulage......006 / 010 / 011. Great to see a clip of 50011. Plus loads of proper music to the ears.
    thank you.

Excellent filming 👌I actually live only about half a mile from Exeter St David's railway station. Sadly, the Great Western Hotel just the other week announced its closure ...

Wonderful stuff. Really wonderful stuff. Great area and great locos. The railway was just so much more interesting back then. Nostalgia can cloud how things actually were, but they really were halcyon days for enthusiasts.

These are excellent. Excellent quality and excellent sound. Nice to see the real Neptune at the beginning. And the real Centurion!

People complained about the railways even back in the 80's. But I loved the blue rail - always have. I look at the railway network today and see some of the units we have and some the terrible rolling stock (Yes, Northern Rail, I'm talking to you!) and I think, God, we didn't know when we were well off, did we?

No better sound than a Class 50 leaving a station-except for their full throttle on the main line next to the playing fields of my old school.....

Love the quality of this footage, so much better than video tape recordings that were made during this era.

Some good footage captured. Especially the last clip with the marshalling train into goodrington yard with the Kingswear bound steam train alongside.

Excellent footage - quite rare for this era. It brings back good memories from my bashing days down there with the Class 50's :-)

The uploader has a fair amount of 50s, both on super 8 and 16mm film which is silent footage, however negative comments regarding lack of sound prevents him uploading the footage. The 16mm image quality would surpass any video capture from the era!

There's something about a 50 pulled train going north from St David's (to Paddington, presumably) that doesn't sit well with me. HSTs to Paddington, 50s to Waterloo. Those were the rules!

Wow, that is literally the first cine footage of ANY train I’ve seen that isn’t pure dogshit! It’s brilliant! Guess it was down to it being high end equipment?

Thanks for the comment, super 8 was a good format, poor quality transfers are the main issue with s8 looking grubby, yes there were crap s8 cameras around along with filming in dull light and or wrong side for the light didn't help. A more modern, 2k transfer of above footage should look even better. Above footage was either on a Canon 814 or 1014xl-s top models in the canon super 8 range. Obtaining a decent tripod in that era was a pig, no internet back then. C1987, slik easiglide tripod came along which made things better, at the same time I switched to 16mm filming at the expense of live sound, then lost the plot and started filming steam s**t....:(

In the late 60s these locos operated in pairs on the WCML between Crewe and Glasgow, and from Liverpool and Manchester to the north.
Not the prettiest of diesels but did the job with big trains over Shap and Beattock.

Great time capsule of the Class 50s and Devon.
Good to see them all in large logo ( loved the pre TOPS blue but ) !
Many videos on yt are of the abhorrent notwork south east.....
Life, our nation, and the railways were far from perfect back then, but,
can you honestly tell me we have progressed?
Early shots leaving St Davids, load 12, with a GUV on the back and a buffet restaurant coach?
Quality of life has sadly been eroded.
