The metal plate as a washer is a total dad move....Im going to do the same thing....extra over the top safety precautions for my kids is a way of life 😂...I reinforce everything....before I was a dad I gave zero fux....dad life changed me.
It looked very secure. My only concern is the potential crunching of the insulation and plywood floor. My van has significantly more floor insulation 1.5 inches under 3/4 marine grade ply, so I had a heavy steel box constructed and cut out my flooring so the seat frame could be through bolted and resting metal on metal. The heavy steel box brought the seat frame up giving the chair the proper height.
👍 on the car seat installation... perfect length when he eventually starts sleeping with his first set on alpine skis! 🤣 Any projected time frame when the Mather's trio will be once again traveling "On The Map"? 🤔 Need some new U.S. travel ideas... can't do it all by myself... the pressure! 🤣 We are back from Baja... simply a perfect way to re-capture that "summer stride"! 🌵☀🍹 Discovered a few secluded beaches with great ocean and wave views on the eastern side south of Cabo Pulmo! You know what is really great... is to feel part of the community down there... never expected that! -Later
Thanks Lee! Hopefully August 1st 👌🏻🤞🏻we may head north into Canada though. Baja sounds great! I can’t wait to explore more down there with the 4x4!! Nice to hear the community down there love it
Hey Kevin, great job on the install and thanks for sharing it with everyone. Im about to install ours today. We don't have our swivels installed our our walls yet. I was wondering if you happen to have some rough measurements by any chance? it looks like the side frame of the base is about 4 inches from the wall and the front of the base is about 15 inches from the base of the seat. Any additional information would be much appreciated. Thanks
Awesome seat install! We just had a baby as well and looking to add some additional seating. I wonder if theres a way to make this seat swivel too? Would be great to get it to turn to the side along the drivers side wall!
There is one out there but it’s expensive. Sara and Alex James have it for sale on their website vanbuildshop.com/products/swivel-base-for-broad-arrow-860
Probably pretty comfy with the seat turned around. Wonder how you get it certified so they dont impound your passenger or child. Seems a real iffy area.
Very awesome. We’re in the process of doing a similar thing with ours. On the website when ordering the base, what mm width and height did you end up with?
Hey guys, now that you have had this seat installed for some time, is there anything you would change in terms of placement? Would you have moved it further back if your shower wasn't there? I am doing the exact same install and my layout is mostly inspired by your layout minus the shower.
Can you by any chance give me an exact measurement of the blueprint you put on the floor? (including width of the metal beams of the base, because on the website it is not included and I am currently building out my van but haven't yet ordered the actual seat, so it'd be great to have the ability to tape the base on the floor and know the space it'll take up. thank you!!!
I have a 2023 sprinter 170 and would like to install the same seat. I don’t have the exact dimensions of the bolt holes yet but I’m concerned that two of them might go through above the gas tank (requiring me to temporarily drop the gas tank to get them in). Did you not have any interference of the gas tank? Thanks for posting!
Do you have to do anything special with insurance for adding a seat? How is insurance handled for self built camper vans? I am just getting into this and was curious about that part. Thank you for your time.
Nice work bro! I started watching when you put on the rack and solar panels. Looks like you’re just down the road from Ben Gravy. For your channel you might want to collaborate with him for my subs and view.
@@MathersOnTheMap OK, so I misunderstood - you have "Grade 8" bolts....Which is not the same thing. That said, they still look VERY small to be holding a seat in a moving vehicle. In our Suburban, the bolts holding the back seat in are 1/4" at least. Their ad-copy makes them look like they can handle anything, but I'd wager they're not sufficient for passenger vehicle seats. Look at the size of the bolts holding-in your front seat - and see if the Grade 8 bolts approach those in size.
Gotcha, I think you’re referring to the screw I used for pilot which was used to measure the length needed for the grade 8 bolts. My grade 8 bolts are 3/8th’s thick and 4 inches long they’re badass and extremely strong
Great install, I bought the exact same seat before I took delivery of my 144. Now that I’m 75% into the build our plan has changed and I will not be using it. Shameless classified ad: anyone need a sweet seat and base? 😊

Love it a smart addition
I love it, I'm excited to see how it works because we will need a seat like that for our grandson.
We are too Darice! Can’t wait to start traveling
Beautiful ❤
This is exactly what I needed to see! Thank you for making this video!
You got it! Hope it helped 👍🏻👌🏻
Nice van building!
Thanks Ryan!!!

What base width did you get for the seat? Would you get the same base again?
I would also like to know what size base you ended up getting from Wilderness Vans.
Hello Nice Job Did you use Lock nuts or regular nuts for the 8 grade Bolts?
Probably pretty comfy with the seat turned around. Wonder how you get it certified so they dont impound your passenger or child. Seems a real iffy area.
Total Nice i need one for My van i hope i can get one to Denmark
I can find one like this in Europe😢
Great job

How does the car seat base attach? Does the seat belt ratchet lock when pulled all the way out?

I’d leave it in the same spot, maybe lower the base if I could

Insurance can be challenging, but we had luck with Statefarm in the past!
@@MathersOnTheMap Thank you for your quick reply. I will look into that.
How much was the seat?
What brand is that seat or bench. Can u post a link please? I have not seen once that reclines and also converts to a bed. Thanks
Wilderness Vans, links in the description 👌🏻
Hey Kevin, what was the solution for the van noise? Was it the drive shaft or perhaps the van was light w/out anything in the back?
It was the drive shaft they added “shims” - what they call it… I actually would call it bushings or spacers to the driveshaft changing the angle of it

That be sweet Ben is a legend, would love too!
Do these seats have ISOFIX points for baby seats?
Yes it does 👌🏻
#8 are incredibly small - I'd use 1/4" or bigger. Not normally an issue - except if there's an accident, those will almost assuredly shear.
What ya mean by #8?

Haha all good, I appreciate the concern though!!!
Anyone know a good folding seat into bed for driver seat?
Who knew George Cluny's younger brother was into van building.
Alice! Haha I’ll take it as a compliment!
