- Acetaminophen also known as Paracetamol or more commonly just Tylenol is one of the most frequently taken medications. We are all familiar with it, but because of that, sometimes we ignore then dangers that can come with taking it. In this video we are going to discuss the proper dosing of the medication as well as the significant problems that can happen if you take too much. We'll also go over some lesser known issues that can possibly come from taking it.

Great video. @3:55 Dr. Richardson asks the very important question: "Who needs to take care when taking acetaminophen? Then he lists people with risk factors: People with a compromised liver: chronic liver disease such as hepatitis C, cirrhosis of the liver, people who drink a lot of alcohol. But I think there are other people who have liver issues. For example, patients who take methotrexate (a drug often used to treat rheumatoid arthritis) tend to have elevated liver enzymes (ALT, AST, GGT, etc.) Would these people also need to follow the same cautions with acetaminophen? Of course this TH-cam video is not medical advice, just information. Do doctors who have blood test results look at things like AST, ALT (i.e. liver enzymes) or other values when recommending whether patients should take the drug or not?
In addition, sometimes patients are deciding between acetaminohen and other drugs such as NSAIDS to manage chronic pain. Different drugs, due to different mechanisms of action and different ways they are metabolized are likely to have risks of different side effects. NSAIDS are often noted for being linked to higher risk of gastric ulcers, higher blood pressure, reduced kidney function, etc. Choosing the right drugs is hard!
Today, April 8, 2024, my orthopedic doc said that I should take 2 arthritis strength Tylenol every morning and again in the evening. These are 650 mg each. So, I am under that daily amount this doc recommends. My doc said that 4 a day will help keep the arth pain under control and help me stay more active because the pain will be controlled. For the time being, I will do this but I will be researching other, more natural ways to keep the pain at a low level. I can tell it's helping the cervical stenosis pain and the accompanied headache that I live with 24/7. That alone is awesome!❤ I also have arthritis in my hands and they feel better this evening, too.

I weight 300lbs and currently cant take NSAIDS for a Lithotripsy procedure. I find that I need to take 1500mg at a time to get relief but hit the daily max dose after a partial 3rd dose (1000mg) I could in theory take 6000mg a day for pain management but im afraid to.
I guess I'm good since I take only 1000 mg/day of Tylenol. My only worry is I had jaundice when I was younger and have scarring on my liver.
I was sure that I could take 2 a day but I don't take pills so I just wanna hear him say it eventhough I took one yesterday and didn't take anything else
There is research that indicates that pregnant women should not take Tylenol. ADHD develops in the child because of it.There are major ongoing lawsuits.

Dunno if anyone's gonna read this, but I took 2400 mg in one sitting, then took another 2400 mg 12 hours later. It's been 30 hours since the first pill. Felt mildly nauseous, but no vomiting. And very little RUQ pains. Really hoping it's not enough for an overdose, I made a mistake attempting. (Oh yeah, I'm 17 and weigh 37 kg if that's an important factor)

Good thing you didn’t take 45 grams. Trust me you vomit a lot. I stayed in bed for over 24 hours and idk if I should go to a doctor but I tell you it is really bad and makes the taste of Tylenol unbearable

Same happend to me, i wanted to trip on acetaminophen/cod (300mg of Aceta & 30 mg of codeine) and i took 8 pills literally becouse i only focused on the 30 mg of codeine ( 8 pills have a total of 2,400 mg of acetaminophen and 240mg of codeine ), and now i'm scared asf cus i don't want to overdose nether i want to tell My mom so she can take me to the hospital, i'm supposed to be a pillar in my house not a drug addict (im not a drug addict but thats what's she going to think when she relises i took 8 mfkn pills)

@@DrAndreaFurlan Hi Dr Furlan I have tried so many. I work 16 hrs a day 4 days a week. I sit at a desk for 8 hrs. On 1 job and the 2nd job I am a CNA. I went to pain Dr. They wanted to burn the nerve in my back. But due to me living alone I have no one to go with me to put under anesthesia. So I gave up. I don't know what else I can do. The maximum dose of acetaminophen is 3,000 per day. Under this dose it is safe to the liver.
