    excellent review - very useful. I certainly hope we get this in the US market - a lot of us here appreciate the efficiency and longevity of diesels. When you couple that with a plug in hybrid - WOW! I presently drive a Q5 Hybrid and it is fantastic

    Hi Thomas, I've been watching your videos for some time now and have to say they're very informative, well-balanced and entertaining at the same time.     Asia has still not adopted the Electric cars yet, so lets see how do manufacturers create the excitement here. May be when it gets cheaper and easy to find charging stations Asia might start buying more.

    Great review, Thomas. I love your channel.
    I ordered the Q7 etron based on this review and after test driving XC90 225HP vs. Q7 272HP.
    Will arrive in 4-5 months time. About 120.000EUR in Norway (insane) ;)
    The Volvo XC90 was a little bit cheaper (even with ALL IN on extras + R-design) but it just did not feel as premium as the Audi. But I think the XC90 looks great from the front and is more SUV-like in the design. As you said in the review the Q7looks like a tall station wagon from side, but man... it drives like a dream! Most silent car I've ever driven and the best air suspension I've tested (much better than the Volvo). It will be a nice upgrade from my 2014 Skoda Octavia Combi :)

      +Autogefühl Yes, 272hp and 211hp made no sense with current etron promos and lower taxes for hybrids from January 1st in Norway. Unless you need 7 seats and want the lower insurance premium of a weaker car.

      +Autogefühl = the annual tax you have to pay which is like 150 euros for a petrol engine

      +Autogefühl We have taxes based on weight, emissions, NOx and effect/power (HP) + 25% VAT, but politicians want to move away from weight and engine size and towards emissions (they finally understand that a large engine does not equal huge emissions as it is not pushed to the limit). That's why every manufacturer has made downtuned versions for Norway (a lot of 211HP Q7 and Porsches and 105HP Octavias), at least until now... Less tax on the weight on hybrids is now coming: I think you can remove 26% of the cars weight in the tax calculation from 1st of January, as opposed to 15% of the weight today (so cars like XC90 and Q7 are going down about 8.000-11.000EUR), and they have less tax overall since it's also calculated based on emissions/fuel usage (and as we know these numbers are unrealistically low for hybrids with todays EU testing regime/scheme. I think this was a good time to buy Q7 before they start calculating with real numbers. Annual TAX is same as a normal diesel (330EUR) - expensive like everything else here ;)

    Off-topic: I was watching some older reviews, and I have to say your English has improved massively! You seem very comfortable now!
    On topic: I like the exterior of the new one a lot better. Seems more in proportion now. The interior is fabulous. I think they have the balance of screen size and normal buttons right. Huge screens aren't that classy I think.

    Also I like that it is not so very fancy looking (though I think it is really good looking, more classy), it is nice to be in a subtle beast of power and technology.

      Tomás Nunes i said steering, not wheels. The etron may have four wheel drive, but the etron equipment does not leave room for the 4 wheel steering for sure. an audi engineer told me that when i asked.

    please, PLEASE, stop the jingle between scenes. It is SO annoying, i really liked you reviews because they were natural, with that jingle all the time it seems like a bad car commercial.

      I'm not a fan of the short music/driving parts either, it seems unnecessary. I like the long form relaxed reviews with the camera angle staying stable and not moving every second. Some stock footage and music is nice like you have been doing earlier. Anyway, Autogefuhl is easily my favorite review channel!

    Hi didn't you start with 53 km range , travel 10km and end up at 35km? The electric range doesn't seem accurate , I know they usually aren't but you seem to claim in the video that this one is

      it is accurate, but of course it depends on the driving terrain and throttle input so it changes in real time

    The new Q7 is a technological marvel in many ways, but it looks extremely boring. They could have got rid of the sloping roof, and widen it a bit at the D-pillar, then it would be more SUV-like.

    So hard to choose between this one and the Volvo XC90...
    I like the Volvo's exterior way better. Less aggressive and more stylish. The interior of the Volvo is very versatile - for families - and very light and roomy in either blond or amber color. Seats are great, also massage, and the audio system is top notch. Also it is a bit cheaper to spec (base prices do not differ that much, but options make the Audi more expensive).
    Having said that, the Audi trumps the Volvo hands down with its air suspension, buttery smooth V6 engine and sound insulation. Which makes the Audi a magic carpet ride. Also the range of the etron is better. I believe Thomas tested Volvo at 33 km and Audi at 50 km (am I right?) which is a big difference.
    There are two other options as well. Wait for Audi Q5 which will also come as a plug-in and new BMW X5 also as plug-in. Both will be there at the end of this year. Maybe the new Range Rover Sport plug-in is an option, also a high driving position and presumably very silent. But owners of RR are not always as happy with reliability. The Volvo and the Audi have already gotten some years of incremental improvements.
    Thomas => what would you prefer, if prices would be equal? Are there any measures to make the Volvo narrow the gap with Audi in terms of comfort? The laminated windows and smaller rims perhaps? Is there difference between 2016 and 2018 models with regards to sound and comfort?

      The T8 is a waste of money, forget the recuperation system, the car consumes fuel like hell. You can just use it if you can charge it every day at home or at work

      Hi! In my country the T8 is 10.000 euro cheaper to buy than a T6. And the same price as a D5. So from that perspective it is not bad to have the T8. I love the exterior and interior, but I agree the T8 range and consumption are not that OK. I would love Volvo to give the XC90 bigger batteries. I can't charge it at home, but can charge it at work. This means half my work commute can be done electric. Until 2017 6 out of 9,2 KWH of the battery was used for the engines and about 3KWH for other stuff (like airco). The 2018 battery is now 10,4 KWH. So effectively that's +25%. Still not great, but just a few extra miles to make it home from commute. I hope to see an improved one in 2019. Maybe then I'll buy.

    bfff i feel this combination of small almost-useless electric power plus diesel makes no sense. More expensive, much more weight, not possible to use on normal commute, you have to care about the adblue thing. No no no. This path is a cul-de-sac. Either we get more efficient petrol engines with electric support, or 100% electric, but not this. I have enough headaches in my life to add more.
