im not a religious man.. i wasnt raised catholic.. but when i was a young kid in the hospital, i swear i woke up hearing footsteps in the night, and there stood the sillouette of a woman with light shining around her.. it looked just like the outline of a mother mary statue, but she raised her hand and motioned for me to lay my head back down, she didnt say a word, and left as mysteriously as she came.. and i was healed.. go figure

The mother Mary in this song, isn’t The Mother Mary. Paul McCartney had a dream about his mother (who died when he was 14), her name was Mary. This isn’t a catholic song
"Mary" is PAULS mother (Mary McCartney). The song is about her visiting him in a dream to comfort him...she had died of breast cancer 12 years earlier. The Beatles were beginning to break up and he was under incredible stress. She said to him to just let things go, things will work themselves out.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned this. This song isn’t about The Mother Mary. Paul McCartney had a dream about his Mother, her name was Mary. She died when he was 14. It’s about her, it’s not a catholic song.. but as Paul said, it’s ok if that’s how you interpret it
The Beatles in such a short time wrote so many awesome songs. Lennon/McCartney best song writers ever along with George Harrison. Then Ringo on drums along for the ride. Not beating up on Ringo.
The single hit record, released before this razzle dazzle album version, it much more quiet and introspective than all this guitar and orchestra and choir noise producer Phil Spector put on this.
