    It was evident that it was always Louise who was going to get her way in whatever property they chose - husband Chris would never have his say! That being said, the barn conversion was wonderful, and in terms of village life and commuting was the best choice. Personally, I'd have gone for the school conversion which I found to be fabulous. The young doctors bought the most practical choice for their needs now. Well done Kirsty and Phil for presenting an excellent selection of houses to each couple.

      To be fair, in most relationships the woman wears the pants and gets her way most of the time.

    • @kentlatimer3706
      @kentlatimer3706 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes. I had a different reason for liking *all* of the houses on this episode. Even that 70s house could have been really fun if, like Kirstie said, you played it up.

    That school is amazeballs. I'd have been writing the cheque on my walk up the drive. I can't believe they didn't show a full walk through; even if it was a no. *I* wanted to see it! It always amuses me to see something clunky appear on the show - like the sticky, cheap sliding glass door on the other couple's first house.

    • @kentlatimer3706
      @kentlatimer3706 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      And I actually love the 60s aesthetic. But that's all subjective. And speaking of subjective - "I'd need persuading" about that even more incredible contemporary barn conversion???!!!!!! Holy crap!

    • @FigaroHey
      @FigaroHey 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Yup. The smaller you go, the easier the maintenance. I long for a garden to be out in all day long every day until winter forces me indoors. But that would mean having little time or energy or inclination to clean and maintain a larger house as a single person. I have a friend who got a reasonable house for herself and her daughter: living room, dining room, kitchen and hall downstairs (maybe a WC - can't remember) and two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. She's not the best at cleaning up as she goes along, which may be part of the problem, but she complains constantly about day-long or weekend-long cleaning sessions . I don't know if a more organized person would be able to keep it clean and tidy and not have it swallow up weekends, but it is cautionary to know how much is involved in just keeping your own space clean and tidy when it's larger than a small flat.

    If he thinks that house with the red leather couch is too crowded either buy a shorter couch or eliminate the couch all together and put three small scale chairs in that room-that give me open space. I LOVE LOVE that last 1970's home!!

    I really like the approach of this show. It goes much more detail about how people make these important decisions. There is a lot of psychological interplay going on that is really fascinating to see. Also the properties are invariably interesting, or attractive, or just wow.

  • @Bobrogers99
    @Bobrogers99 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Investors are taking a lot of properties off the market, making it difficult for would-be buyers or renters to find a place. When these properties become available, it's at a greatly inflated price, and because there are so few alternatives, they can make a big profit.

    • @FigaroHey
      @FigaroHey 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, I was happy about the seller who wanted to sell to people who would live there, not drive up prices by treating it as an investment. I understand that in some Canadian cities it's virtually impossible for young couples, single parents, etc., to buy a house because the stock is owned by huge housing corporations who buy up everything and rent it so there's just nothing left to BUY on the market. And since the huge corporations own the housing stock, they can set any prices they want. Young families, single mothers, older people, etc., who have been living in a place for ages are thrown out of their homes when the rent doubles or triples because a corporation has bought up the building. There needs to be a law against that.

      But there are ways of actually making a space like that more cosy. It's simply a matter of Interiour Design savvy. You split the area up into areas/rooms (not with walls), and you have LARGE beautiful carpets that define an area, a big comfy sofa with big inviting armchairs. Side tables with lamps, a bookcase with books and interesting pieces on it that personalize the room ... then good Art on the walls. Then suddenly, it's an inviting space where people want to gather and relax.
