I am a complete beginner in swimming but I think I notice that Dressel and his competitors don't have a high elbow catch outside of the water. Basically the recovery part. And I've seen some other tutorials where they say that for the recovery part when the arm is above the water, it should have a high elbow. Am I seeing thing correctly as in their technique or the high elbow recovery catch is not so important as long as your fingers are the first to enter the water?
They are not using a high elbow catch because, they are using a different technique of freestyle that is called straight arm freestyle. Straight arm freestyle is mainly just used for more power while sprinting. So I would recommend to just keep doing a high elbow recovery until you are ready to learn straight arm freestyle.
For shirt distance run like 50 or 100m straight arm is preferred for powerful quick entry, whereas high elbow is more commonly used for long distance run 200 and above
@@indramani8888 he has said that he doesn’t like strait arm and doesn’t prefer it, but in 2022 he said that he liked his strait arm stroke from the us trials

dressel isn’t trying to have a straight arm, he just throws so much power in that his stroke straitens out
