    The rebuild begins now !! I've got to admit, taking it apart is one thing, but putting it back together is another. Hope I can remember where I put all the parts. Getting this piston in is just the start, I've still got 7 bearings to change and then reassemble the bottom end before I put the car back down on the ground and start work back up top. This could take a while.
    I've also started a Buy Me a Coffee page, any and all donations are gratefully received and all proceeds go back into making sure this car gets back on the road.

    This just proves. The men you take it to to get fixed are not robots they are just like us. take apart put back together simple as that. some tools make it easier but anything is doable.

    Great work! Anything can be achieved when you put your mind to it...
    I once had a Subaru WRX which I completely rebuilt, never having done any work on a car before. All I did was take photos as I took it apart, tagged & bagged, and just focused on doing 1 thing properly, checking it, and then moving on to the next thing. Before I knew it, I had the car back together and worked perfectly for over 30,000km's before I sold it.

    Hi Rich, your saying we should let you know if your doing a mistake in the comments, and maybe there is something you need to know:
    I watched all your videos so far and saw you in part 5 manualy honing the cylinder. Like you allready know the block is out of alusil. You can do it they way you did on a steel block, but on alusil you have to get some special polish paste to uncover the silicium-crystals to the surface. If there is alu left, then this can causes wear and friction. I hope its maybe early eneugh and you dont have the heads back on. This can be a very easy and cheap step to prevent a further damage.
    Then theres another thing i might figured out what could caused your damage:
    I almost ready everything i found on the german and american sites about the s63 engine(took me at least 30hours), because i bought a M a few weeks ago, and read a lot about seized engines and problems with the s63. In my opinion the s63 has very big problems with the direct injection. In the USA more than in Europe because other fuel quality. In some cases of seized engines the piston got hydroblocked while the injector stucks fully open and filling up the cylinder with fuel. In other cases the injector is leaking to much fuel wich wipes of the oil of the cylinderwall and causes just the problem that you have here. I would recommend you do not use the old injectors again without having them tested! Maybe in your oil analysis they found much fuel in it, wich confirms my thesis.
    I realy hope you get it back running and wish you best luck.
    If you need to know more, feel free to contact me.
    Regards

      +Azamat Bagatov thanks. it wasn't really a home, it was more of a clean off the build up of contaminants from when it blew! I did look into the Alusil treatment and special Alusil hone but it cleaned up so well I decided not to. I've know Porsche use this treatment too and they e suffered a lot with bore score in some of their engines (not sure if it's still a problem for them?). I've measured the roundness too, wanted to make sure I hadn't changed the shape of the cylinder and it's well within a few thou.
      I agree about the injectors, they're going to get replaced as part of the rebuild too. there was. o point doing an oil analysis as I'd run the car for a bit until I found the problem, there would be loads of fuel in the oil sample.
      have you had issues with yours or were you just reading up to find out what sort of issues to expect?

    • @AgentPipapo
      @AgentPipapo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RichsRides Hi Rich, sorry for my late response.
      I was just reading about issues i have to expect.
      I found your channel at the time you removed the injector. I looked for some faster sedan cars since 2 years: first Alpina B5s, then Porsche Panamera, E39 M5 and for short an M5 E60 (usually i only drive BMW because i got all special tools and software from 1990-today), after a couple of very bad cars i decided the M5/M6 F-series is even with their problems the cheapest and most powerfull car on the market. So i owned a M6GC about 2 month ago. Drives great, but i got a very bit unstable idle about 100rpm in cold and stillt 40-60 when warm. I plan to do an compression test in the next time, but i dont expect any bad results, cause my oil consumption is 0.0, i got no codes, and wihtout the idle the car runs perfect. I bet i will find the problem maybe in the plugs or coils. today i cleaned the mafs, but without any results (have allready tried without them and still got thos issues). but i saw some of blow bye oil in the airbox, i think thats the reason why some mafs fail at some cars. Im also allready working an a solution to detect an failing injector as part of an inspection. Because the problem you have with that bad cylinder wall is my worst nightmare beside a hydrolock.

    • @RichsRides
      @RichsRides  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AgentPipapo mate M6GC was next on my list to be honest. Odd that it's just an idle issue. Like you say the oil contamination of the MAF is common, I was starting to look into catch cans rather than leaving it to re-circulate back into intake. I'm sure you'll find your issue but keep me in the loop and good luck!

    • @AgentPipapo
      @AgentPipapo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RichsRides Hi Rich,
      today i switched the coils at mine. But nothing changed, before there was Bosch in, where im a bit confused about, cause i heard usually there has to be Delphi in. However i switched to Delphi and everything runs exactly the same like before. Next thing are the spark plugs, i allready bought new ones (NGK usually for the 550i). I just dont wanted them to change, cause theyre not even 10tkm old(done by BMW from the preowner). Catch Cans i want to get too, but seems to be very difficult because of the narrow space. Thing thats an important upgrade in 2 ways, first ur maf would last longer, and second your inlet valves will remain cleaner. Because the direct injection cant clean them instead of an manifold injection. And when there gets the oil from the blowby it can built up carbon on them.
      Today i would prefer to bought an M5 instead of an M6, the M5 is in my opinion the more comfortable car, and its about 20cm shorter, i havnt even 2cm left in my garage with the M6 in. How is the progress with your M5 doing?

      +MaxTech cheers buddy, I really appreciate the support.
      I think we can be a little spanner shy when it comes to DIY, although I think that's partly because on the surface they're so damn complicated these days.
      I think it's also a generational thing, back when I was a kid my Dad used to do all the maintenance on the family cars (he still does where he can). But these days it's more electrical than mechanical. When things go wrong it's possible to fix if you've got the tools and know where to look for help. At the end of the day it's just nuts and bolts though isn't it.
      Fingers crossed I get this right eh!

      I noticed some copper flakes in the last oil change I did and beginning to think it's time for a strip down, I'm guessing the prolonged torque settings are to stretch the bolts? I noted the ACL bearings allow a little bit more play rather then the OEM bearings. Would you still plastiguage it

Got as 3rd owner bought at 24k miles and was burning 1 litre of oil every 1200 miles (BMW said normal for M5 and only considered problem if 500 miles!) Went down to a litre of oil every 800 miles then it let go when not even being driven hard. I think before me probably not run in well and driven hard when cold maybe.
