    As a vet tech, thank you. Our visits aren’t frequent or long enough to condition them to this kind of handling. You can see the difference with the dogs whose owners work on it at home. I always try to teach new puppy owners at my clinic, but thank you for teaching the masses. This training should continue their whole lives.

    • @jeffricker99
      @jeffricker99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The treats are just the puppies regular food. So before the actual feeding she’ll take the food and do training then do a normal free feeding from a bowl in her cage.

    We've had our 8 week old Goldendoodle for 3 days and I need to take him to a vet for the first time. To avoid risk of Parvo, the breeder said under no circumstances should I sit my pup down at the vet until he has had all of his shots at 16 weeks. How do I deal with that if the vet and tech handles my pup and puts him down? I've read that Parvo can be spread indirectly.

    Hi I have a 12 week old Pittbull
    I've had him since he was 4 weeks old. I'm home all the time with him since I'm not working right now. He cries and barks all the time he doesn't give me alot of time to do things I need to do he interrupts my sleep more than a puppy normally would at night and if I'm sitting in my recliner he barks at me he always wants on my lap I let him sleep on my lap a couple hours a day but how do i stop this crying all the time i rescued him from a guy who killed their mom that why I got him so early. We did get 2 pups my mom adopted her pup out to a friend on the family he was peeing in his bed biting his brother that pup is doing great. Now my Pittbull Shadow he is a blue nose Pittbull he seems like he needs me all the time now the vet said he had bad anxiety but there has to b a way to break it

      Try playing ball or anything with him. Get it tired out chasing the ball. Just do not overdo it.
      You can also try basic training behavior like sit, down, stay, stand, wait and of course heel work and combine it with playing with the ball. Get his mind off being anxious.
      Hope it work but bssic training will help with discipline and that is always a good thing. It is hard work though
      Have fun

    The worst thing I did for my dog was take her to the vet and let strangers restrain, hold and handle her. My dog never should have been handled and dragged into the office by someone shes not familiar or comfortable with. I'm not sure what happened behind those doors but she now is very nervous around new people or strangers approaching her. Not normal behavior for a 13 week old that was very social before her vet experience.

    • @onesassyzebra
      @onesassyzebra 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no. That is awful. I know almost all the Vets and vet techs at the clinic I use so I feel very comfortable letting them take my dog without me being there. But if I didn't know the staff I would be hesitant unless it was a emergency situation. There are some places out there I don't agree with their practices. I used to work in the veterinary field for a time so I am familiar with what goes on behind the doors. So if you don't like a particular clinic ask around. Since you can't go into the clinic ask the vet to come out to ask any questions you might have before you bring your pet there. Most are happy to to chat with current/potential clients.

      I don't think that's good news- a breeder should allow you more time to take your puppy to the vet. The one that I'm getting my Aussie from next year states we have to take our in 3 business days, which should be plenty of time to train them to this stuff.

    I am leery of letting my puppy on the floor at the vet. Last time I was there I didn't see them sterilizing anything where another dog had been. Like on the weigh scale was the big one I noticed. I am concerned about this as doesn't it take awhile to get a pup fully vaccinated? I dont want my investment to die or get sick because I am trying to do the right thing taking him to the vet. Yes he is going the vet despite that fear, but what can I do to keep my puppy from contracting diseases before he is fully vaccinated?

    • @jessicagislason4855
      @jessicagislason4855 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have thorough dog experience, most common in puppies is kennel cough and worms. Both of these are generally contracted through water or licking as puppies are little snoops. You can liquid deworm puppies regularly to be safe kennel cough is harder but if they're getting shots regularly just don't let them get up into other dogs business, sniff poop etc. Til fully vaccinated to be safe. Alot of first time vaccinated dogs are brought to pop up vets as it tends to be faster and sometimes cheaper, a established vet is likely at lower risk as they do routinely clean but they also have 20-50 animals coming through daily so that's something to keep in mind cleanliness wise.
