Thank you for this video. You just changed mine and my new Aussie cattle dogs life. She's 12 weeks old and full of energery always jumping nipping zooming, and after this she actually came and just sat on my lap and rested her head down. No biting, no jumping, she was tired! You're the best!

Polar opposite. I ignorantly thought he was “special needs!” I now laugh at myself, but wow, he’s in constant motion!
He’s perfectly normal & healthy; just different is all. I am truly grateful for all I’m learning because of Bugsy’s behaviors, so I can meet his needs & have a good bond between us and a happy, trusting puppy. Much love, Tanya……🐾

During hot days, I want to limit my Husky puppy’s playtime to avoid overheating. I make him run inside the house and play with toys for a few minutes, then I put ice in his water bowl. While he’s busy with the ice I turn off the lights, turn on the multiple fans (we don’t want him to be dependent on AC but we do give him AC time to time. We don’t live in the city so it’s not as hot+big cooling mat). All of these are cues that it’s nap time, and the dark + me laying on my bed will immediately give him the idea that it’s time for him to sleep. I do this twice in the daytime since I can work in my bed. I get a sleeping growing puppy except for small meals 3x a day.

FYI when it comes to the Goldendoodle I would NOT use their method for stopping biting. In fact, the puppy101 subreddit does not allow any of these videos since that tactic backfires and makes nipping and biting worse for dogs with high drive and prone to hyper arousal like the goldendoodle. It totally backfired for me and my puppy is 9 weeks old.

It has been many years since we have had a dog in our home, and in the past we always free-fed, which I am learning is not ideal. I heard you mention that it is lunch time for Five, so does that mean he eats 3 times a day?

I wish our puppy (Border Collie) when we got her at 10 weeks old would have fizzled out at some point but she was non stop from early morning until late at night (10:00 - 11:00) and sometimes in the middle of the night. At almost six months, she has slightly slowed but not by much. She plays outside chasing birds and leaves, she plays with our other dog, we play with her, we do two training sessions a day and she hardly gets tired. The other day we worked outside for about eight hours and both of our puppies were non stop the entire time exploring, playing with each other, chasing leaves, going back and forth across about 5 acres. When we were done, they ate, then slept for about 20 minutes and then they were back at it. She is 20 lbs and we feed her about four cups of puppy food a day (she eats what she wants and leaves the rest for later) and she is still on the skinny side because she is just constantly moving.

I have a jack Russell puppy 3moths old. She never gets tired eating everything around her. What should I do to make her stop biting and eating everything that comes infront of her

Your videos are great. Too bad I did not start watching them earlier. It is very hard to get a leash on my puppy and stop her from biting me all the time

    Help!
Can you do this with an older dog or what would you recommend? I recently adopted a wonderful pit from the local shelter and he thinks he is a 80 pound puppy. But I have been trying drop it and he wont, and worst of all he is yet to really focus on how to play without his mouth touching skin. So while I understand that and watch him closely if someone else tries I fear they might get accidently bit (I have gotten teeth a few times myself).

One of my little nuggets has so many toys I don't even want to count them. However there is one toy he wants and that's the only one he car about. there are a couple others he may drag out every now and then but for the most part his little stuffed hammerhead shark is his crack. It has already had a couple surgeries and stuffing transplants. LOL

I have a mini dachshund. My dog Penny just turned 1 years old on April 16th. She been biting my shoes/ feet. I am trying to redirect her to biting one of her toys. I am not sure if she is mad that I go to work Monday-Friday. Should i be playing with her & giving her lots of love. Also should get two of the tug a war toys & play with one & then switch it while play with Penny?

All of this stuff is fine for the little bitty young puppies you always show. Try it with an 8 month old 70 pound pit that’s 1,000% over the top with uncontrollable energy.

Love you guys videos! Been studying for months leading up to getting our puppy. And now we are implementing everything and it's going well. However, our puppy is a Bullmastiff. Do you guys have anything on large or giant breed specific training?

    • @user-bx4ov2qy8b
      @user-bx4ov2qy8b 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Oh boy!! Have you ever had a mastiff before? They are still dogs, obviously, but probably not like you've encountered before. First off, they don't quite have the stamina (or need) for crazy excitement. As adults, they are often most content just hanging out (sometimes literally on top of you!). They grow FAST--so in my experience the most important thing is to teach them spacial awareness, especially if you have young children or anyone elderly or handicapped in your home. They have no intention whatsoever of harming you, but their big bodies can swing around abruptly and easily knock you over. I'm not saying this to upset you, just so you are aware that when playing and training them, teach them to "turn off" when necessary to regain calmness and the awareness that you are indeed a separate entity to be respected, not a littermate that can be roughhoused with. It may be cute when they are little, but later on it's like having a Volkswagon in your living room. Have fun--these are great dogs!

One things I am struggling with, and I wonder if you have any tips, is how I balance training with my little one when my two older ones (both ten) are interrupting, distracting, wanting attention. It's just me at home with them and a 14 week Rottweiler puppy, so when I'm trying to spend that time with him they create this added challenge. I CAN put them into another room while I train him, but then they struggle with feeling left out, not enough attention, etc. Alternatively, when I'm trying to pay attention to them, the puppy is always getting into the way, crying, etc. How do I balance their needs?

All I can tell you to help out of my opinion is that a two to three hour hike will do good to start to tire him out then pull around a tug toy and for sit and lie down stuff like that, find what motivates him like a clicker or treats or a toy and use that for training. Remember to work him before you throw or give him the toy. Now I could be wrong but this is after three to four years of research and experience with my father who is a retired dog trainer. I hope this helps you!

Fellow senior here - search “tire dog with flirt pole” on TH-cam - fetch or frisbee works if your dog is a natural retriever, but 2 of my dogs (Eskies) just refused to chase a ball. Flirt pole did the trick!

I can't really play Tug of War with my 15wk AussieDoodle. She doesn't seem to latch on and let's go easily. Every once in awhile she has a good grip and will growl. Most times she let's go after a few seconds.

We play with our 10 month old but she gets over-tired. How do we know where that fine line is between finishing the play when she's tired versus playing to such a frenzy that she takes ages to calm down again?

There is a phenomenon called overstimulation. It happens in human babies, too. It's when they are actually tired, but are getting more and more hyper instead of slowing down. This type of hyperactivity will be characterized with irritability or, in a dog, more "edgy" / not-so-fun type of play. If you feel like you've done enough that the puppy should have gotten enough exercise (research the breed to see how much they typically need), and it's getting close to bedtime anyway, then try putting them to bed. Give them something to chew on to release residual anxiety. If the pup goes to sleep pretty soon and sleeps the usual amount of time, then the behavior is overstimulation and not a need for more exercise.

What to do if your dog gets bored of the toy very quickly? Find that he will play with them for 5 minutes and never want to see them again in the future (with new and old toys).

I’m also having a hard time with this. My dog also seems more interested in things like leaves, she’ll ignore the toys to pick up a random leaf on the ground and walk away from me…
