Oh my god. I can't believe this made it into it's own video! That was a pack I gave you back at Pax East 2016 when Modern Masters was pretty new. I figured marking it as so clearly fake would let you decide what to do with it and had assumed it got opened off screen at some point. (Also, my name was on the bag that had a bunch of packs in it, but this was before writing our names on the packs themselves was a super common practice.)
Fun fact: When this was packed it was every turtle creature that had been printed so far (Excepting the non-turtley changelings) and I had to fill the 15 cards with other tangentially turtle related cards. Finding a Giant Tortoise was somewhat of a challenge.
Oh also, the token is in there so the masking tape didn't damage any of the cards. There weren't any turtle tokens available.

Zoology fun fact: All Tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises. Tortoise is a subclassification of turtle in a sense. Tortoises fall in various tortoise families within the Testudine order.

While I encourage everyone to respect Graham's request for untampered packs of magic, I do enjoy these goof packs for their creativity. Plus, since these are pulled at random its kind of like a goof time capsule.

A good chunk of Arabian Nights is on the reserve list. And potentially being on the list is the only reason I could think of for the tortoise being $4.
It may also be just that Arabian Nights was a set with a very small print run, and as one of the oldest sets too, it's very rare to come by decent condition cards from the set, or any at all really.
Its art is from one of the Foglio's. Their art is pretty well liked and enjoyed, so that might have driven up the cost too.
It was reprinted in Fourth Edition so it can’t be on the reserved list.
@@MJWhitfield Cards being on the reserved list does not mean that those cards were never reprinted at any point in time. It just means that they were not reprinted after their addition to the list. Cards from as late as 1999 are on the reserved list, I believe, and 4th came out in 1995, so it's possible some cards were reprinted in 4th before getting added to the reserved list later. However, if that turtle was from arabian nights, then it is not on the reserved list. It's fairly easy to look up the comprehensive list online, sorted by the initial set reserved cards were first printed in.
@@Alittlefruitgoesalongway Anything printed in 4th edition is not on the reserved list. Same goes with chronicles. After ABUR, anything in a core set was essentially reprintable at any time (it doesn't mean that they would get reprinted, but that they could).
I’m a sucker for tribal and jokes and random “bad” cards so this was right on the money for my engagement. More of this please! Makes me want to make a turtle EDH deck even though it might be pretty terrible.

There is Archelos (Sultai) from Commander Legends and Yidaro (mono red) from Ikoria. Archelos would be the only viable option for this to fit the other legal 21 turtles.

Turtles have Shroud as a theme to represent them hiding inside of their shells to avoid being attacked.

I tried to play Shell of the Last Kappa in a commander deck once. It's such a cool idea, but functionally it's "you have hexproof until someone destroys this thing or you have less than 3 lands untapped" since nobody wants to cast into it, so its second ability never gets used. Not nothing, but not worth the price sadly :(

Do you guys think that every crack a pack episode ever, that the original senders of the packs watch it in anticipation longing for the day that they see the packs they sent be opened and yell "THAT'S MY PACK!! I SENT THAT!!"
When my pack of Ravnica Allegiance finally gets opened I will do this. If you think about it it's a pretty good way to secure views.

I gave them this pack and that's absolutely what my reaction was. I gave it to them like 5 full years ago so I had assumed they had decided not to open it on stream since it's clearly fake.

Urza’s are gear, hammer and flask.
Shadowmoor block had hybrid, so it supported a mono color theme by allowing you to cast a bunch of Blue/X hybrid creatures with just Islands. The Scarecrows supported this.
In my college playgroup, Meandering Towershell earned the nickname "Durdle Turtle" and we subsequently decided that a group of Commander players is called a durdle due to how long our games usually took.

Shell of the Last Kappa recieved a major rarity nerf in Neon Dynasty, and became Old Shell of Kappa, But Not The Last One
The fact that Cold-Water Snapper wasn't in the pack is an insult to turtlekind... that card alone cost me time and time again many drafts and pauper matches!
Cold-Water Snapper had yet to be printed at the time that pack was...packed. WotC has really upped their turtle game in the last half-decade or so.

@@Jaryth000 Only seeing this now, but there have been tons! There are a total of 28 turtle creatures now. Easily enough for another pack, though the rarities would be all over the place ;p
Regarding the *best* one? Well Kappa Cannoneer is legitimately powerful and very recent, but before that the spiciest was probably Archelos, Lagoon Mystic.

As someone who ships alot of booster packs in mail. They are surprising resilient against damage. Not an excuse for WOTC. They SHOULD improve it somehow due to certain cards in packs can be $100+ and it feels real bad to get a dinged corner or damaged card out of a pack. But it's certainly not a severe problem and only happens rarely IMO. One simple fix I can think of is to have the rare slot in the MIDDLE of the pack. Not at front/back as they currently do it as that's asking for trouble.
