    Mate your spot on to talk about the price when you can clearly buy a big 550g block of cathedral cheese for £3.50 with a tesco club card, a loaf of bread anywhere from 75p and £1.50 depending on the bread, and then a pack of 4 415g tins of heinze beans for £3.75. £8.50 for the lot to make dozens of them toasties or buy 1 ready made for nearly half the price at £3.50. Complete gimmick/scam and a waste of money.🤦‍♂️😡

    Omg £3.50 for that! You can go to Aldi to pick up the essentials beans for 28p essentials bread for 37p & a packet of mature cheese for £1.99. Why would anyone want to pay £3.50 for two brands that are already expensive as it is.

      Brand snobbery?

    • @PotatoPirate123
      @PotatoPirate123 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidspear9790I think there are a lot of people out there who really cannot eat anything else. I wonder if it's a form of low-level autism at play because I know that this is one of the reasons people express why they buy Heinz - because their children's condition means they can't bring themselves to eat anything else. Makes me wonder if a lot of adults have undiagnosed disorders that stop them being able to switch brands or change diets, because think of all the people who will only ever buy a certain brand of food, only buy a certain brand of clothes or only go on holiday to the same place every year.
      I might be overthinking but either way Heinz and other big brands are certainly exploiting people's loyalty at the very least.

      Another good review Gareth and you are quite right to talk about the price. You can justify buying some of these gimmick products because if you were to buy all the individual ingredients and not use them all then financially it can make sense. In this instance though who doesn't have bread cheese and beans in their cupboard? And when you factor in that the taste isn't that brilliant then it becomes a no brainer. These companies are just trading on their names and to be quite honest now if I saw Heinz or Cathedral City on a product I would avoid it big time. Thanks again for the review Gareth I hope you have a good weekend.

    • @danmyers7827
      @danmyers7827 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because for many years they *were* the best. It's the kind of brand loyalty which is passed down from parents to children - similar to how it was with Cadbury's, another case in point. All Heinz need to do, apparently, is top up that loyalty with marketing campaigns.
      This rip off is so blatant though, I sincerely hope sales will be very poor.

    Friday poker night.
    I’ve just had my first poker night since leaving hospital.
    For the snack break I went cheap and cheerful.
    I bought some Lidl tortilla wraps. Spread them with a cheesy bean mix and some Worcestershire sauce.
    Folded over and crimped. Grilled in the Sage cooker. A few chips and home made potato salad.
    They went down well with my mates. When one asked for seconds ? I knew I’d cracked it. I couldn’t really taste it because my taste buds are still missing from my visit to ICU. But they smelled delicious.
    Not your traditional toasty, but quick, easy and cheap to make. And 6 big portions came in at under a few quid.
    To make ?
    Take a tortilla wrap, fill half with beans, cheese with a dash of sauce. Fold over, wet the edges with water. Crimp down with a fork, add some cheese sauce, ( cheddar and mozzarella, milk ) put into grill or oven bake and Bobs your Uncle a tasty toasty.

    Though £3.50 does seem a bit on the steep side, it’s not that much more than you pay for any pre-made sandwich. The fact that you’re not finding it particularly tasty is more of an issue I think. The only reason for getting them would either be for having something for a quick, easy and filling snack or meal or because you have someone that you couldn’t expect to make it themselves, either due to age or disability but are able to safely use the microwave.
    As it is a cook from frozen item and it’d be getting knocked about in your lunch container for hours, it wouldn’t really be THAT suitable to take to work for lunch and as it has to be cooked, it’s not really an out and about kind of thing either.
    If they halved the price and/or sold them in multipacks, they’d probably sell far more than they will at that price point.

    I counted 45 beans on there but some might be split in two so could be around 40 beans. So they're charging about 4 pence per baked bean if we say the cheese and bread is about £2 of the total price.
    If I only lived on beans at that price it would probably be a £300 a week habit. Probably be cheaper to start smoking crack instead.

    That’s a skinny Cumberland ring. I used to work around Cumbria out of Carlisle, there was a food van nearby we used to stop at that used to do a ring of sausage in a bun, it was proper butchers sausage and was thick as an average toddlers arm. I don’t understand why most supermarket sausage tastes so strongly of mace these days, probably to cover up the dextrose, sugar syrup and bamboo fibre! Sausage used to have rusk in it, not stuff they make toilet paper and underwear out of….

    I think the price is so important, especially these days so I think it's definitely worth mentioning.. It's completely relevant. £3.50 for that is an absolute joke. How can they get away with that, must be about 80% profit for them in that. Didn't look like there were many beans on it either. It's convenience yeah but how lazy are we becoming that we have to buy this instead of making cheese on toast.
    Whatever next, pre buttered bread that you put in the oven for 25 mins for the perfect toast!? They're having a laugh... they need to work on their excessive wasted packaging instead of making us do all the recycling. Rant over. Great video, again.

    I spat my tea out when you said £3.50. I wouldn't even buy that if money was no object. It looked so pitiful when you showed the contents.

    If I do cheese and beans on toast I make a standard cheese butty, plaster the outsides of it with Utterly Butterly and throw it in a frying pan on medium heat, fry both sides so they're golden brown and the cheese bubbling out of the sides trying to escape - then onto a plate and pour hot beans from a saucepan on top of that. Sometimes thinly sliced onions also inside the cheese butty before frying. Absolute dynamite!

    I wonder how much it would cost to make a batch of these and freeze them yourself, using the exact ingredients.
    Good quality bloomer
    Block of Cathedral city
    Tins of Heinz
    And spices to choice
    I reckon about 40p tops!

    So fourteen quid for a family of four to each have, what, half a frozen lunch? They should call it "the Dick Turpin sarnie", because that really is highway robbery. PS: I thought they had to put the weight on the package, legally.

    You should try the M&S pizza meal deal for 4! It's £12, but compared to Dominoes it's much cheaper and I think it's much, much nicer!

    Nice review. I wondering if it would be much better and cheaper to make this yourself? It would not take that long, just small can of baked beans, some cheese and 2 slices of bread.

  • @Rondawwg
    @Rondawwg 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That range has always been overpriced. £3.50 should be for 2. I tell everybody you can buy steak at Home Bargains for £2.69. They also do a cheese & ham toasties for £1.50…..

  • @Essydyk
    @Essydyk 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Probably be better in the microwave as I find the oven/air fryer will dry these toasties out too much. This would take about 15 mins in the air fryer I reckon so not sure where they are getting 30 mins.
    The cheese and pickle one is OK but at £3.50 a pop they are a pretty expensive snack and that's the major problem for me.

    Vale for money is what we seek, I do anyway. Thant means we need the price. I have Lidl Simply beans and they are fine as is their cheese. Their bread is less that a £1 a loaf. There are clearly many out there with oodles of cash to splash on gimmicks. . Well good for them but you are right to point this stuff out.

    Why do folks constantly miss the point of these items. Any item that is prepared is grossly overpriced when comparing it to purchasing the raw ingredients on their own. Yep, it’s very expensive but if you’re not prepared to pay the price then move along as you clearly aren’t the target audience. On a side note my local Iceland was selling off the cathedral city mac and cheese toasties half price at £1.75 a pop…bought 4 and whacked them in the freezer for a rainy day.

  • @Pete_R
    @Pete_R 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    For £3.50 you could buy the ingredients and make multiple toasties and cook them quicker than 20 bloody minutes 😂 Iceland thinking they're on par with Waitrose 🤣

    Exactly, I have a tin of beans and a wee bit of cheese in some bread and some hendos..My Yorkshire half came out "Ow much?!" Yes thank you for trying and exposing this con Gareth, it's madness, I think sometimes the marketing folk think we are buttoned up the back, to be fair I was eyeing up Itsu Korean style chicken bites £4.50 for like 8 wee bits I could imagine, I had to resist as I am on long term sick leave, it is tempting if one is feeling depressed and it looks the part and seems tasty, then you stick it in the fryer and its a let down x

    If these were in Iceland's £1 range they'd fly out of the freezers but for £3.50 they'll not sell well and will end up being discontinued in a few months

    • @racingspoon
      @racingspoon 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The toasties have been a stalwart of the cathedral city range in Iceland since they started well over 2 years ago. They started at 2.50 and have remained a seller even with the price rises. What they did discontinue was the cathedral city sausage rolls which were absolutely phenomenal and worth every penny.

    Haha Gareth! Iceland deserved that review lol. Watching from Massachusetts and it was your last can of beans review that had me subscribe because you gave them hell about it as you should do. I get the convenience idea behind these type of products but at the end of the day unless they are sensibly priced they won't ever get any traction in the market. If this was say £1.50 or maybe up to £2 they might make a bit more sense. Anyway toasted sandwiches in the old Breville are far superior to this kind of thing.
