I use the same formula minus the tide. I use Meyers. I soak in extremely hot water for 8 -10 hours. Then I use the bright white setting and steam on my washing machine.
I discovered this after years of throwing away sets of sheets. Finally, I tried this with a set of sheets that were ready to be thrown out after years of the buildup of yellowing. They came bright white like brand new. Wish I had discovered this years ago.

Tide has a blueing agent that literally changes the color of your sheets. This is not a bad thing, it's how our grandmother's kept whites white. You can still buy blueing agent in a bottle. So you can use any laundry detergent.
Also boiling will also do the stripping, but only do that with natural materials. And look up how to do it first, i haven't used boiling, but it's in Every homemaking book I own that was published prior to washing machines, I collect them so about 30 books.

This worked so beautifully! I did the bathtub method since I have a front loading washing machine (also used liquid Tide since it's what I had on hand). I actually wash them first, then did the soak, but was shocked to see how dark the water was even after washing them. I ended up soaking them again after the first two hours for another three hours and while they're not quite like new they're pretty close. Thanks for the tips!

This works fr. If you’re comparing it to another video don’t even bother. I had a white comforter that somehow ended up with yellow splotches and overall off white color after washing with bleach and my normal detergent. After soaking it in a bathtub overnight + hot machine wash with everything besides bleach, it took care of 95% and the difference is 180. Bet another soak and wash would take care of the rest + more

Wow that must work but it's too much for me.. what I normally use and it's just crazy how I figure it works after experimenting for years lol I use regular amount of detergent and 2 capfulls ( I'd say it adds up to about a little over 1 cups ) of baking soda so that's why I get big packs of baking sodas lol it always White's my clothes. I use cold water. However if you dont have much baking soda , you can use half a cup of baking soda , one round of bleach.. you could even add in oxy whitener like a whole cap full mix it in with thos chemicals. Also what I USED TO USE, as my detergent is the non-fragrance detergent called Purex. I remember when I used to use hot water to my white laundry the purex detergent one cap full would keep my clothes white. I used to tell my co workers about it that I was so happy I didn't have to use bleach all the time. But I stopped using them, I should go back tho.

I have three sets of sheets that I rotate weekly. one of them is a set of white sheets. I have never had a problem with them getting yellow or dingy. I generally just wash them according to manufacturers instructions which is warm water and low heat dryer. I may bleach them about once a month and sometimes I will use OxyClean as well. One thing that I think helps to make them clean is that I shower at night before I go to bed so I am removing most of the dirt and oils from the day.

What do you do when you have whites that also have colors on them? For example, I have a pair of white baseball pants. I made the mistake of washing them with my matress cover which turned them dingy. The pants have orange and black stripes running down the sides of both legs. The belt loop area is also trimmed with orange and black stripes. My fear is using bleach will fade or discolor the stripes.

Bleach does all its work and breaks down after seven minutes. If you’re leaving anything soaking in bleach longer than seven minutes you’re just degrading the integrity of your fabric resulting in you having to replace it sooner. Also, bleach kills the enzymes in laundry detergent (the workers) which is why modern modern washers have bleach dispensers that add bleach the bleach five to seven minutes into the wash, at at which point the enzymes have done their job. Just some suggestion from launderer to another! When I am not catching babies I’m doing laundry for our family of four!
