Thanks for this comparison! The hue looks really similar on paper. The Rembrandt version (PG26) is the genuine cobalt granulating pigment. The van Gogh is a hue composed of 2 pigments which are much less expensive than the cobalt PG26. It also relies on the PB29 (Ultramarine Blue) for a slight granulation. It makes sense, as van Gogh is a student grade paint. It is a great value, as van Gogh is usually 1/3 of the price of the 20ml Rembrandt tubes. Granulating effects depend a lot on the kind of paper used and the amount of water used. I get good granulation in cold pressed paper with lots of water. I get the impression that the paper you painted on might not be ideal for granulation, to be fair. I love both hues and I can guess that the Rembrandt would mix really well with yellows or blues, to create granulating mixes without "killing" the other colour, which might be a benefit of its low tinting strength. In any case...thanks for this comparison, it is always good to get to know colours better.
Why have I never seen this video until now 😱 Thank you for the comparison! I’ve got another color which I wouldn’t say it granulates. But when I used it beside another color of the same hue which really did not granulate, the difference was obvious. My not-so-granulating color is cadmium red deep from Winsor and Newton. Compared to a transparent non granulating color as PR207 the difference is really obvious. About the colors on screen and in reality: do you have a Tipp for me for color correction? I find it really hard to show the real color of teals, turquoises and bluish greens on photos.
colour correction... honestly... i'm not a professional so i don't know. all i do is i just put my up swatch next to my screen and try to edit it as close to the real thing as possible.
I agree that the Van Gogh colour is slightly prettier. However, if you want to use it for mixing, you might want to use the single pigment version for cleaner results.
oh yes, great point to make. i completely agree with that. plus, the vangogh probably has more fillers to muddy up mixes even more. all depends on purpose of usage. thank you for reminding us about mixing potential 🥰👍
That Van Gogh looks so green! I wonder if the tube is mislabelled and it's a PG7 plus PB29? 🤔 And wow, that Rembrandt does Not look like a PG26 in the least!
another viewer also said that as well! i think you guys might be on to something. the more i think about it, the more i think they're trying to mimic cobalt turquoise PB36 but even then, that's not very accurate. 🤷♀
I was considering Rembrandt's for the granulation, soooo... you just saved me some money. 😂 I already have the Van Gogh version but the tube I've got has some real separation issues, which affect the hue everytime - sometimes it's warmer/yellowish because of the concentrated binder, sometimes cooler as it should be. All I know it's never the same and I tried to fix it many times without success. In the end, I just gave up and use it as it is at the moment because I like it, anyways. I'll try to mix it with more granulating paints and see how it goes. Thank you so much for this helpful video. 💜 PS.: I heard Lukas PG26 is a very good option in terms of granulation, comparable to Schmincke's. It's on my wishlist already. 🤞
glad to have helped save money ;D it sounds like you use your vangogh one straight from the tube? i squeeze mine out, thoroughly mix before letting it dry in the pan. so i haven't had inconsistency issues. aah yes~ i've tried both lukas and schmincke PG26 before but they're both very different to the rembrandt's version here. that said, both lukas and schmincke granulate verrryy well. i've done swatches of them in past :) anyway, i dont think i've seen you around before, welcome to the channel Lindsay :D thank you for watching and commenting
well, it’s thinner for u guys because u have a drier climate which makes things crispy longer. for us, it’s humid so the seal is a lot stronger than the seals in EU.
Wow crab snacks so cute! The Van Gogh paint looks really nice, it is my first time seeing it swatched. As for the Rembrandt paint I too bought the large tube thinking it would granulate, but nope XD At least the hue is nice. In case someone is interested in a similar paint to this Rembrandt PG26, but with granulation I suggest the Roman Szmal Cobalt Turquoise. it is made with PB36 and is a bit more desaturated. The texture is really obvious and sparks joy XD
haha, seems like the crab snack is a hit ;P and yes, it definitely is! took me some time to warm up to it but it's a turquoise, i was bound to like it ;P oh nooo u got a big tube! 🥺 but that's good that you like the hue and can work with it. :D 🥰
@@PaintinHiding those snacks are so interesting..here in Greece we have much more boring snacks XD yes, no worries I am still going to use PG26 ^_^ just not for granulation.
@@PaintinHiding I was just watching your older vid on the paint and I think they mislabled it. I would guess it's PG 7 and PB 29. Strange that it's so low tinting!
I love the Van Gogh Turquoise Green! It’s such a gorgeous color. I do sometimes get slightly annoyed by the low tinting strength though.
yayy! i'm so glad you love it too! yeahh, i feel you on that. i kinda wish it was at least medium-tinting.

Well you know how much I love turquoise 🤣 but there is definitely something very nice about the Van Gogh. Thanks for sharing 🙏
😂😂😂 it’s definitely an interesting colour for a student grade range of watercolour
I like them both. It’s lovely how the UB separates out from the green in the vanGogh version!
yess~ the UB separation definitely sets it apart from other colours! thank you so much for watching and commenting :D🥰

I adore this color too and wish it WAS higher tinting!!!
heyyy another person who likes the colour! yayyy!! 😆🥳
I love the East Asian variety of foil that snacks come in. Here and in Europe, the foil tends to be thinner.

I wonder how they get a turquoise out of two reddish blues?
ikr? i mean, it’s clear the blue particles are most likely from PB29 but turquoise out of PB15? 🤯😯
