He was making fun of the idea of needing to salvage slightly less-than-perfect food. There's really no need.

When I first got married, my husband LOVED burnt toast. It felt really bizarre making breakfast for him. "Here's your ruined food... just like you like it."

I like burnt french toast.. but it's mostly the egg and sugar that's being caramelized and eventually gets charred but it tastes so much better then the regular golden brown color

I definitely don't see much natural chemistry between them. You could kind of see them both trying to wrangle that in at points.
She has a different style which is why I'm glad we still see some Priya episodes.
It might be a difference in culture or the way they were raised. Stereotypically, brown people are taught not to waste their food while white people aren't. (That's just the stereotype of course. Not everybody is like this.)
I think they get along, especially in that video they did together where they made yogurt. I think there just happened to be a lot of questions that they disagreed on how they would handle them in their own cooking. But they seemed to handle it like how my friends and I do when we disagree on stuff like that that doesn’t really matter.
Whoever put Priya and Brad together deserves a raise

Absolutely, agreed on all fronts. And I love how they show us the real side of the interactions, the teasing and conflicting and stressful moments, while still overall showing us how wholesome and friendly the whole team is. This video was especially humanizing and sweet.

The real answer is throw some diced raw potatoes in the oversalted liquid, and remove them at the end of cooking. Potatoes suck up salt out of soup, spaghetti sauce, anything liquid. If it's not liquid, you can wash the salt off, even off a cooked steak. Wash it and give it a fresh sear, preferably from a torch so as not to cook it further.

@@missbeaussie before, it rinses off all of the excess starch and i think improves the texture. you can put the rice you want to cook in a strainer and rinse it until the water is clear (or mostly clear, to your preference, it wont kill you or anything)
@@missbeaussie oh and if you remember to, it might be a good idea to check for rocks or other non-rice bits before you rinse, again i dont think it'll kill you but still.
Rice is also high in arsenic! Rinsing and soaking helps remove it a little. Soaking does a better job. I have read that you can cook it like pasta with lots of water and that is the most effective in removing, but that ruins the texture for me. I stick to soaking and rinsing until the water runs clear.

Sometimes it's a boon in the kitchen, but to the extreme yeah it can make it really hard to eat out!! I view it like a dietary restriction that requires accommodation.

Stale bread can absorb a lot of liquid, so it's perfect for making french toast, bread pudding etc.
french toast is called pain perdu in french... literally lost bread. The recipe is calling for a day old stale bread.
french onion soup too
There's a specific recipe where I'm from, that specifically calls for really stale bread and it's awesome.
It's like french toast, but instead of keeping the breads shape, you tear it up a little, add milk and some more stuff of your liking, then coat it in more breadcrumbs with some egg to keep it together and fry it.
Serve with a nice vanilla sauce and you've got a great dessert. Something I used to make whenever I was out camping to sort of celebrate the end of the day after you're super spent and just wanna relax. Also lets you use the leftover oil from the fried calzones you made the last day or for lunch.

For salts and spice you can make dough balls from flour and put it in your gravy and stuff. It will soak salt. You can make 3-4 dough balls
