  • We reckon the BMW M340d is a bit of a modern-day cult classic - it's the fastest-accelerating diesel production car on sale, with a sub 5-second 0-62mph time. But it's also huge fun to drive, as practical as a regular BMW 3 Series and still gets more than 45mpg. Is it actually the perfect real-world car?! Join Tim Rodie for a full walkaround and driving review of the BMW M340d. It's brilliant.

    My 330d was older, but such a joy to own and drive.
    Everyone should experience one of these!!

      Same haha loved it! sold mine 2 years ago, and from MOT records see it still going strong with 220k miles on the clock

      Ditto. I had a 2010 300d coupé and I loved it. The torque made overtaking an utter joy. Car in front. Big gap. Foot down. Overtake. And gone. Then slow down as the 60 mph label was now somewhere below the speedo's needle ;-))...
      The only thing I did, when I needed to, was to change the run flat tyres to Bridgestone non-run flats and that took the cars comfort to another level.
      But... Sadly, and due to illness and having to retire from work, I couldn't afford to keep her running 8-((...
      _C'est la vie..._

    My friend used to drive 2 of us around in a 330d. What a drivetrain. His left hand would migrate to the idrive wheel, mess with something, then it simply flew. The revs didn't hang and the ZF just banged it's way through the gears.
    I can only imagine MORE of that would be awesome.
    Now he has an a250e. It's sh1t.
    Thanks for making me want!

    Watches this vid about 3 times as I'm interested in purchasing one used. However, am concerned about the overall reliability of Bmw and hope this particular 340d M Performance makes a difference. What is your thought on this ? Many thanks and keep up the wonderful job !

    Just purchased M340d xDriver (sedan) a month ago. And I'm really satisfied with it so far. I'm coming from E90 330d, but this has much better acceleration mid-range.

    Only 20 litres extra boot space in the touring? That can't be right can it? Will the petrol still kick the back out?

    • @motorpoint
      @motorpoint  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's because they only officially count up to the window line. So really, there's loads more space. I think. - Tim

    0:41 does it? Isnt it twinpower single turbo?

    • @moonbaby6134
      @moonbaby6134 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep. Electric motor helps the turbo in certain areas which is why it’s described as a ‘twin power turbo’ rather than twin turbo has he states. You’d think car people would know their stuff.?

    • @SmartfoolGB
      @SmartfoolGB 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@moonbaby6134 actually twin power turbo alludes to twin scroll and not the fact that there is an electric motor assisting. Otherwise we wouldn't have had twin power on the 118i 1.5 turbo petrol of around 8 years ago. You'd think commenters on car threads would know their stuff. 🤦😂

    • @moonbaby6134
      @moonbaby6134 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SmartfoolGB lol. Isn’t that what this engine for the 340d does? The hybrid motor makes up for lag and flat points to assist in turbo capabilities, or does the 340d actually have twin turbos. Cos I’ve seen both stated!?

    • @SmartfoolGB
      @SmartfoolGB 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@moonbaby6134 BMW used to have twin turbo power which at some point changed to twin power turbo which is single turbo with twin exhaust inlets or twin exhaust outlets I forget which one but both are for faster flow through the turbo.
      Then there is MHT Which is the electric assist when moving off and power gaps. This technology is available across the BMW range including in the 340d.

    Only justifiable for those covering large commutes etc. around town these are inferior to the petrol versions.
