You are so right in that not every style will suit the taste or style of every person. I like many of these scarf ideas, but I especially wear “la cravate” because it adds a touch of masculine to a feminine look. This is a tip that Marie Anne has suggested many times.

The subtle differences all say their own thing, I love it! So elegant and beautiful! Can you do a scarf + outfits video? I remember when I was in college one day on the first day of classes, this one girl wore a red scarf with her sleeveless grey dress. That outfit was a real attention-grabber for its elegance and beauty and she was almost blushing when I complimented her outfit after class while walking to our next destinations. She ended up being one of only a few people I stayed in touch with after graduating (although I foolishly never asked her out, although it's better I don't dwell on that regret but instead cherish the memories of her as a friend). Anyways, thanks for the stylish video and the wonderful memories this indirectly brought back!

My mother taught me La Cravate scarf tie when I was 4 years old. So, when I was in choir in high school and none of the boys knew how to tie a necktie, I had to tie all their ties for them 😂

    • @elizabethpetrie2732

For a few years our school had ties for girls. My grandfather taught me to tie mine.
The school eventually dropped the idea of girl's ties as part of the uniform because it wasn't feminine.

    Bonjour Marie-Anne,
As I sit here in the morning chill, I have a scarf tied au Français around my neck for warmth. I wear a scarf almost every day in the autumn/winter. All the subtle differences you show in your video reflect different moods. La Tresse is one of the new ones I learned today that I'm eager to try out. Your green scarf is gorgeous and suits you so well, making me think that perhaps I could also wear a green like that. Tu as l'air énigmatique et chic dans la vidéo. I'll be returning here to learn some new tricks with scarves. Merci!

Very informative and thank you! That being said, I am curious as to the dimension of the scarf that you used as living in Canada particularly during the winter months (with snow, sleet, high winds etc.) I often taken my longer scarves and create an 'infinity' one which can serve as a quick temporary hood. i.e.: Knot ends together, create a double loop, slip over the head, pull a section up and adjust.

  • @MrsCutout206

Merci beaucoup. Scarves are my go to for winter. I become kind of claustrophobic in turtle necks, but scarves are adjustable so I can’t tighten or loosen as needed. It is lovely to have some new ideas on how to wear them.

I think people in the west of the U.S. stopped wearing scarves because of the Veronica Lake story. However, my mother told my brother to stop talking about it. Until then she knew more scarves saved lives than took them. Post WWII nurses recognized that the higher level of clothes you wore equaled how long you live. My sister, and I wore scarves. I probably wear them more than most of my family. I think they have numerous uses in life. They can be made so easily it’s ridiculous. Even home made scarves can look really fabulous. They are “your personal designer item, and can mean more to you than a store purchased item.” Only in certain social circles do people memorize the fabric of designer scarves, and who cares anyway? Same mom told me, “they should be wearing my designs not my wearing theirs.” My mother was pragmatic and funny at the same time. Everyone likes a pragmatic Lucille Ball look alike. 😊. Thank you for being who you are, and helping people recognize their true needs vs. just any old garment. Your videos are greatly appreciated.

This was great, and amazingly enough my high school French from (cough, cough) years ago came back to me. I have been getting into non woolen scarves lately and have fallen in love with Sabina Savage's scarves. Have you seen them? The art work is simply breathtaking, but so is the price tag. I can't bring myself to spend $500 on a scarf. But I am keeping my eyes open for a resale one, although I think they get snapped up quickly.
I did find that the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City has an incredible inventory of beautiful things to sell and I bought one through them that was from a William Morris wallpaper design. I do love it and it cost considerably less than S.S., but still pricey. Give them a look also when you are bored and have some money burning a hole in your pocket.
I live in a warm climate and it is just now getting to sweater weather. When it gets a bit cooler I'll trot out my new trench coat and scarf.
