Good to see other car owners who are fastidious and obsessive. Whilst my car is a traditional metallic, my washing method is much the same as yours, with similar products, although it takes me some five hours, with about the first hour doing the wheels tyres and wheel arch liners! I usually end up the next day going round the car with a quick detailer to (obviously different with your car!) improve the depth of gloss and remove any water spots. However for the first time, when buying a new car, i optedcfor full PPF coverage, and after some 15 months the film has done a truly excellent job of resisting stone chipping, for me my biggest worry, particularly the micro chipping which from my experience is usually unavoidable no matter how careful you are. There are various matter PPF protections available, and even if you only covered the more at risk areas its well worth getting.
I ordered the regular mountain gray, because as beautiful as the matte gray is, the thought of getting a scratch or other paint damage terrifies me. I’m looking at full satin PPF to get the same look.
That sounds like a great plan, the metallic mountain grey looks amazing also to be honest but if you are able to satin PPF it that’s the best of both worlds! :)
Matte or satin PPF doesn't look the same as the finish and light effects on designo mountain grey magno paint , it might look similar from ten feet away but park it next to a painted car and it's obvious which one is wrapped

I've got the same magno paint on my a250 which I've had for over a year. I had the same fears about bird poo, dirt etc but it's held up fine no issues. In the end I got it ceramic coated for that extra peace of mind. I would highly recommend a ceramic coating as it makes drying/cleaning much easier!

I just polished my matt paint, left glossy patches everywhere, lucky it was just my push-bike... I've got 3 matt paint bikes and they all have glossy patches, only found out today I caused them all by polishing. I couldn't imagine not being able to polish a car, I'm always polishing fingernail scratches and soot stains.
1:00 not a single person on the internet will say to you matte paint is easy to maintain. It will range from people who can afford it saying "be careful with it" and people who stretched too much their budget and say "my heart skips a beat every time I drive my car . . ."

My SL63 is finished in Magno Alanite Grey. Beautiful colour, which I always loved. Unfortunately, I scratched the rear arch when coming out if the garage. It's just a little mark, less than a thumb print. Here in the UK, there are only a handful paint shops that are Standox certified and stock this colour. Got a quote from two different shops, but they were close together at around £2,000. Since they cannot match the existing paint perfectly, that need to paint tho whole side of the car in order to look good again. I don't think I'll bother fixing it.
Hey Peter, Sorry to hear you damaged you SL63, sounds like a lovely car. Interestingly my Mercedes dealer bodyshop repairs the matte cars. I will be honest I've not fully seen their work but they seem to have quite a few go in for repairs. At least you know they have experience and the correct paint. Fingers crossed I won't ever have to take mine in and find out.
The paint looks amazing. Scratches can be repaired but will cost a lot more since It's such a bespoke job. I just take extra car when parking and park further away from entrances hoping for less cars around mine :)

I once had a black car, looked amazing but I did drive me a bit mad keeping clean! Looked so good after a long wash and polish though. Mercedes always look mean in black too!
if i could choose paint colour it would deffo be the matt grey makes the car look so good, looking after brillant blue metallic is hard work more because of swirling but does look really good in the sun 👍😀

Just received AMG EQE with Magno and was wondering how smart that was - even though I, like you, take a huge care of my ride and the EQE will even get PPF. Thanks for great vid! Makes me feel much better about my choice. BTW - great looking car you have!

Of course most from people that have never even owned a matte car. This darn cars are not gonna melt in the rain! I just received my GLC today with exact same color. They strongly advised me to cover it with mat PPF. What do you think about it? Will it really protect the paint and will it spoil its gorgeous look? This paint looks really fascination in my car too, everybody looking at it. I have my own garage where I can keep my car too, so what would be your recommendations, money is not an issue.
Congrats on your new GLC! It is a lovely colour. PPF is great and won’t ruin the finish, it’s more designed to protect against light scratching and stone chips so it’s good to have on this paint as scratches are difficult to repair. Hey :) The colour is the same all around the car It’s just where the light was hitting the front of the car and picked up more exposure on the camera 📸

Thanks Omar! Congrats on your new car! That’s brilliant that you’ve got ppf on the car this is going to do an amazing job protecting the paint against scratches and bird poo if it’s been installed correctly. I’d still remove bird poo if I see it but you should be well protected with the ppf!
Ah, that's one thing I did forgot to mention in the video. I would never take this finish through a car wash because you don't know what chemicals they are using. They could use a harsh prewash or a soap with wax which could ruin the finish. This unfortunately applies to hand washes too, you would only want a professional detailer with experience with matte finishes to wash this car. It would be a disaster if someone used the wrong products without realising.

As it is not legal / very hard here in Germany to hand wash your car, the only way would be to take my car to the other end of the city where I live to hand wash it there on special premises. I had originally ordered the 45s with the same paint as your‘s but due to all the possible difficulties with the paint I called my dealer today to change my ordered car to the mountain grey metallic paint…Not 100% what I wanted originally but probably essier in everyday use
Hi Christian, I am having a special Matte ceramic coating applied to the car next month. I will be making a video explaining it all with the detailer who is applying it. This is great for protection against the sun etc
No scratches so far, couple very small minor stone chips at the front but you can’t really see them very easily because the colour under is also grey rather than white like my metallic blue car.

Unfortunately you can only get the non S model in USA at the moment but it’s still an amazing car. Sometimes they drop it from the website. If it’s missing don’t worry it will be back for order soon.
PPF is amazing when done right. You could get the metallic grey and save the extra cost of the matte and have a satin/matte PPF so the cars protected but also has the matte look from the PPF wrap.
Great videos mate. I'm struggling to decide what to do. I'm wanting something bigger than my RS without the loss of performance. Your car the C43 AMG and C53 AMG are on the shortlist.. I haven't driven any of them. Which one should I try first
Hey Jason, thanks for the nice comment. If your looking for something a bit bigger the e53 may be a great choice. It’s a big saloon with a really roomy interior. It’s the nicest interior out of the 3 for sure. I considered the E63 but the E is a little bit too big for me personally. I found the c43 and cla a bit more nimble but the E class is such a nice place to be.
@@ABAUTOAMG Good info. The 53 I really like. But there something about your CLA which really intrigues me. I've got an R32 GTR as the project/toy and part of me things the 63 and CKA maybe just a bit too close to the sporty side which I'm wanted to get a wee bit of distance from if that makes sense
It’s not just scratches though is it is stone chips also that would need the whole panel painting, I’ve got 3 or 4 tiny stone chips on mine just from driving around but I’ll have them done and won’t need the whole front end re spraying. Have you picked up any chips yet.
Hey Paul, Stone chips are the worst! I've never been a huge fan of touch up repairs on stone chips but perhaps I've never seen them done well so I'm more in favour of a bumper re-spray but luckily so far I've not had any stone chips. Apart from the wheels I had a random stone take a small chunk out of the matte finish on the wheel which is disappointing. Never had a stone chip on a wheel before! Looks like it just took out the coat of paint on the wheel so maybe no so durable. Matt actually had this on the press cla45s he reviewed on Carlow. Never thought it would happen to mine so soon! I still think it was very unlucky although it was the same week I hit 1000 miles so I probably was driving silly!
@iRbirne but those are like yearly fees. We have something stupid in Finland which is car tax. Electric cars don't have car tax on them. I guess you don't have such thing
First of all Chemical guys products are absolute trash I hate their car care products and when you scratch the Matt finish paint or someone keys 🔑 it in a parking lot your pretty much screwed.

Take the bird poop off as fast as possible it will leave a mark, at least it did on my cla 45 🙁

I've got the exact same set up like you, just with black badges. I opted for a full ppf + ceramic coating.

@@samcharlesNo it doesn’t. You can’t even notice a difference. XPEL matte film then ceramic coated with XPEL matte coating on my new CLE 53 AMG.

I have a Mercedes with this paint work. I use a matte shampoo for it. I also blow the car off. I use a dedicated wash mitt.

As it is not legal / very hard here in Germany to hand wash your car, the only way would be to take my car to the other end of the city where I live to hand wash it there on special premises. I had originally ordered the 45s with the same paint as your‘s but due to all the possible difficulties with the paint I called my dealer today to change my ordered car to the mountain grey metallic paint…Not 100% what I wanted originally but probably essier in everyday use

Hi Christian, I am having a special Matte ceramic coating applied to the car next month. I will be making a video explaining it all with the detailer who is applying it. This is great for protection against the sun etc
does the matt paint scratch badly and leave worse marks than metallic??
No scratches so far, couple very small minor stone chips at the front but you can’t really see them very easily because the colour under is also grey rather than white like my metallic blue car.

Unfortunately you can only get the non S model in USA at the moment but it’s still an amazing car. Sometimes they drop it from the website. If it’s missing don’t worry it will be back for order soon.

Yep! If you want to take care of any car with any paint finish it's important to maintain the paint and clean it regularly.
When I buy a car with matte paint I’m just going to PPF the thing bumper to bumper.
PPF is amazing when done right. You could get the metallic grey and save the extra cost of the matte and have a satin/matte PPF so the cars protected but also has the matte look from the PPF wrap.
Does anyone know if car wrapping looks as good?
Hey, a wrap can look just as good and seamless as long as it's done well. There's lots of lovely satin and matte colours to choose from too.

Hey Jason, thanks for the nice comment. If your looking for something a bit bigger the e53 may be a great choice. It’s a big saloon with a really roomy interior. It’s the nicest interior out of the 3 for sure. I considered the E63 but the E is a little bit too big for me personally. I found the c43 and cla a bit more nimble but the E class is such a nice place to be.

I've got an R32 GTR as the project/toy and part of me things the 63 and CKA maybe just a bit too close to the sporty side which I'm wanted to get a wee bit of distance from if that makes sense

It’s not just scratches though is it is stone chips also that would need the whole panel painting, I’ve got 3 or 4 tiny stone chips on mine just from driving around but I’ll have them done and won’t need the whole front end re spraying.

Hey Paul, Stone chips are the worst! I've never been a huge fan of touch up repairs on stone chips but perhaps I've never seen them done well so I'm more in favour of a bumper re-spray but luckily so far I've not had any stone chips. Apart from the wheels I had a random stone take a small chunk out of the matte finish on the wheel which is disappointing. Never had a stone chip on a wheel before! Looks like it just took out the coat of paint on the wheel so maybe no so durable. Matt actually had this on the press cla45s he reviewed on Carlow. Never thought it would happen to mine so soon! I still think it was very unlucky although it was the same week I hit 1000 miles so I probably was driving silly!

@iRbirne but those are like yearly fees. We have something stupid in Finland which is car tax. Electric cars don't have car tax on them. I guess you don't have such thing

First of all Chemical guys products are absolute trash I hate their car care products and when you scratch the Matt finish paint or someone keys 🔑 it in a parking lot your pretty much screwed.
