    Love the content. Just a friendly suggestion: it might be worth changing up your intro. I think it could be a fun chance to have it represent new aspects of your channel

      Yes I have thought that too. Or a lot of TH-camrs that I’ve been watching for a while, don’t even do their intro thing anymore they just start out with an intro of what that video is about and then dive into it. I really like that approach even better.

    • @ji7635
      @ji7635 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I always skip the intro video's. I did read somewhere that they should be maximum of 10 seconds or else people find them annoying

    A pro tip from my husband who is a chef is to rinse fish that smells "fishy" in cold water. It will freshen the fish meat and give it a milder flavor.

    Money saving freezer bag tip:
    If you have lots of small portions of meat (I like to do taco meat in 1lb portions), use sandwich baggies to separate portions, and then toss ALL of your sandwich baggies into ONE gallon freezer bag.

    • @hwyla4416
      @hwyla4416 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do this too! For burgers, broth, ravioli/tortellini, shrimp, scallops, crab - anything really that I might want to pull by servings. When doing this, I still put the quantity of servings on the baggies but also the weight of each serving and the calories for each serving

    I don’t know if the Tilapia was such a wise idea. Fish should never be stinky, if it is then it’s started to go bad.

    • @rubyblue44
      @rubyblue44 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s an old wives tale about tilapia being bad for you. ANY fish will start to smell if left out too long. And tilapia processes just fine in the body, and it’s very healthy, being a lean protein.

      +StarsReminiscent absolutely nothing against Jordan but I won’t be buying her cookbook anyways sadly! I’m in the UK for first (shipping would be a pretty penny) and I NEVER use cookbooks- I don’t own a single one. BUT i love following her recipes, which is why I want to see a full “what we eat in a week” type of video and how she uses her frozen stuff!

    • @lilygarner8463
      @lilygarner8463 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lindsey Poyner yes and I love them! I’ve been keeping up with her cabin updates lately too (instant pot chicken, salsa verde etc) but what I always wanted to see from her and what she’s never done is a full week of recipes/meals for her family. Just because she shares her grocery haul for the week or however long and meal planning but we only see meals on specific days (or freezer meals), but not how the groceries turn into meals she cooks, if that makes sense. I really hope she does one (or something similar) soon.

      I spend waaaaay too much on groceries 😭😭 but we live in Alaska where food prices are high. And I have two children with very opposite food allergies and have to prepare 2-3 meals every mealtime. I’ve tried to cut down and budget better for groceries but I can’t seem to cut down nearly as much as I want to. I’m guilty of not cooking what I have on hand at times, however.

    TIP!!!! If you do not own a vacuum sealer simply fill the sink with water and dip the half close zip-lock bagged item into the water being very careful to keep the open end above the water. The water pressure will push the air out and you can seal/zip it before lifting it out of the water. Make sure you dry the outside of the bags and mark them before putting into freezer so you don't created ice to stick the bags together!!!

So frustrating, especially when multiples of 2 cannot be skipped. I despise political ads (regardless of the party affiliation) every few minutes. I'm not opposed to the ad concept but at this fast pace, it's like buying a magazine with 10% content. It's soon not worth it even if it were free.

    Working solo mum of three here.
    Buying in bulk on sale and freezing is a life saver! Saves $ and more importantly for me, saves time.
    I buy meat on special, divide into portions and freeze it. I also buy veges on special, chop, blanche and freeze those too.
    Then one every 6 weeks or so, I take a weekend afternoon and cook in bulk. Meat, sauce, and veges. Simple food I know the kids will eat, like nacho mix or spaghetti/Italian mix etc. Then I freeze the meals in portions.
    So on an ordinary weeknight, when I've worked all day and it's 6pm and I need dinner on the table now. I just have to cook some carbs (microwave jacket potatoes, rice, nacho chips, mashed potatoes etc), and quickly thaw a frozen meal in the microwave.
    It's cheaper coz I buy in bulk on sale, and saves time in the long run. Plus I know we're eating good home cooked food, but it only takes me 15-20 minutes to get a hot meal on the table.

    Question... why not just put the pack of meat straight to the freezer instead of a baggie?

    • @angelanderson7577
      @angelanderson7577 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since freezer baggies offer more protection from freezer burning then the packaging it is in. If you are storing meat long term(more then a couple months), that packaging does not hold up well in the freezer. And for example the ground beef, she got 2 meals instead of 1 meal out of the package since she separated the meat. If she would have froze the 2 pounds of meat, she would of had to used that 2 pounds when she took it out to thawed it.

    I was raised this way. Shopping for EVERYTHING ON SALE when possible, then prepping/storing/cooking for now and later. It works SO well for families of ANY size. I used to do it when living alone and didn't know how to cook "small". I had meals for months! I shared. LOL! We also season some of what we freeze. It makes for that much less to do and the meal tastes GREAT!

    Great tips! At our local grocery they price meat, and sometimes cheeses and other perishables, that are getting close to the sell by date at $19.99 for 5 packages! I've gotten, roasts, steaks, pork chops etc but, as you pointed out, Check the original price too. In order to eliminate freezer burn I also wrap meat I'm freezing for a longish time in white freezer paper. It's just like what the butcher uses at our butcher shop. It comes in a roll (like aluminum foil etc) and Walmart sells it. Since I don't wrap as well as a butcher, I place my meat first in plastic zipper bags, squeeze out as much air as possible and wrap, tape and label it. It's saved me a lot of money by not ruining meat with freezer burn.

      Obviously things are exaggerated in editing, to make our lifestyle more entertaining for TV, unfortunately. So always keep that in mind with “reality” TV! That being said, everything we did on the show, we find helpful when it comes to living frugally… Maybe just not as extreme as they made it look. For example, we certainly teach our kids about portion sizes. We teach them to only take one handful of a snack, or to start with a half bowl, so we don’t waste food. With toilet paper, we definitely teach our kids how many squares is appropriate, to help cut down on clogged toilets 🤣. But, do we ration food and toilet paper? No, not in the way they make it look on the show.

    My husband and I buy the cheap store brand of sandwich/quart baggies (freezer or regular) and will put 1-2 chicken servings into each, and then all of the bags in ziplock freezer bags. That way, we're only throwing out the cheap brand, and can rinse and reuse the zip lock brand again. It also allows for us to only grab a couple of breasts/thighs instead of thawing the whole bag.

    One thing I like to share about getting fat off cooked ground meat. I put a plate down in the sink, and put a strainer over it. I dump the ground meat in the strainer and let the fat drip on to the plate. Once finished I move the plate and rinse ever so slightly with warm water. I put a paper towel down on the fat I just strained off to soak it up and toss it in the garbage or compost. I used to do this straight into the sink and skipped the plate until I found out how bad that is for your pipes. Just a tip I like to share.

    Hi! Just asking because you have such a big platform and so many people listening to your advice. Are you aware of the environmental impact cheap meat has? Thr conditions the animals are in are horrendous. The situation the farmers are in are horrendous. They would like to sell their meat for more money but people aren't willing to spend more. Unfortunately, our planet is being destroyed by the cheap globalisation and the support of cheap food products.
    I'm not blaming you or pointing a finger as I'm sure you were unaware, but please consider looking into what buying cheap meat means. Sure, these products cost less because they were on sale but 5$ for a whole ribcage is just not something that should be normalised or celebrated.
    Still, thank you for the great budgeting tipps, I'll be sure to implement them in combination with focusing on local, organic food that supports local farmers and that is sustainable for our planet 😊

Later all I have to do is pull things out of the fridge and pop in the microwave. Or if I'm already cooking something I make a large amount to vacuum seal for later. People look at me like I'm crazy, but if they only knew how much time it saves. Plus, no matter what we want for dinner it's already ready. @@jodythomas1159 I personally do this too, just because if you are storing meat long term (more then a month or so) , it is more likely to get freezer burnt in the stores packages then in the freezer bags. Notice how she also vaccumed sealed the fish because she said they wont use it as fast. Vaccume sealing offers a lot of protection to the contents inside from the freezer. I've vaccumed sealed ground beef, and it was just as fresh 6 months later with no freezer burning. I use to not transfer meats into different storage packages, and a few times there was meat that was too freezer burnt to use.
