I will try to help you out with your starting issues: 1/ you need to Check the fonctioning the cold start injector located AT the upper backside Of the engine 2/ don’t push the accelerator when ignitating the engine... you only need to do this on carburator engines 3/ when you put ignition on (not starting), you can gently & manually level UP the rond Metal plate...by doing so, if you hear the injection and see fuel being sprayed at the injectors, you know that the fuel is well injected .
@@francoisd6849 what happens if the mentoring plate had seized I freed of of but still won't start when I lift up plate to prime injectors ..could try and use engine start fluid
Cool video. I'd suggest changing that fuel pump regardless, its old and even if its still working, at least with a new one you'll know you'll be good for another 10 years. I'd clean out your fuel tank, and blow out all of your lines, and replace the fuel filter as well. Keep up the great videos. :-)
Hi, i've got a 88 944 had similar issues: one of the best things I did was get a cheap fuel pressure gauge (it came from China and was only about a fiver off e bay: that showed me problems with the fuel pressure regulator: fuel pressure was too high, and the injectors can overload the electrical supply: for proof, I disconnected one of the injectors and the car started. I got one second hand regulator, that failed after a week of so, then go t a new (expensive) one; not from Porsche, but from one of the independents. Most of this is probably totally irrelevant to you, but the fuel pressure gauge is key to fault finding. (I see many videos on you-tube, where people are trying to fault find fuel issues, very few of them take the trouble to check the fuel pressure) great videos, as you say the enjoyment (!) of older cars!
These CIS Ktronic systems are made by Bosch and fitted on early VW Golf Gti, Sirroco’s as well as Porsches, Audi and the worst thing to do is neglect them by not running the engine regularly. What usually happens is the fuel tank fills up with rust and sucks it through to fuel metering unit, the fuel metering unit is a very delicate thing with four tiny jets inside. I have stripped these down and found it impossible to unblock the jets, the jets are the size of a sewing needle with a non return valve. Once the old fuel goes hard through a lack of use you’re pretty much done for. I’ve had the head unit stripped down and soaking for weeks in carb cleaner/plus gas without any success. Only sensible thing is to get a recon unit, I would avoid fitting a second hand unit for the reason mention above. Hope this helps.
I had the same problem with mine. I would hear the pump working but there would be no fuel coming out. I changed fuel pump and filer(witch was 20 years old!) and that did the trick. Mine was sitting for 10 years prior to that so maybe not the same problem but worth a try.
Definitely on the list but as it's still got a little fight left in it I'm double checking all parts of the system as it has been stood but not as long as yours. You win there ;)
Hi I have problems starting my 924 porche it runs fine when warmed up could it be the warm up regulator or the cold start injector ..I'm going to replace the coil first as everything else like rotar arm and distrutor and plugs has been replaced
@@stevehunt3847 Hi Steve, thanks for the comment and support. So it could be a few things. Once you have replaced the coil, the WUR is a good place to start. Remove it and give it a clean out, it may have dirt in the inlet. Also while it's out just check the ohms, should be 20ohms to ensure the metallic strip inside is all good. While you are there, remove and check your AAR. It should be open when cold, a decent sized hole should be visible through the unit. Finally the cold start valve. Remove it from the manifold housing and place in a glass jar and see if it sprays when cold. My feeling is the WUR, these tend to be the route of most little gremlins when starting/idle. Let me know how you get on 🤞 👍
@@Witty924 got the a aav auxillary air valve of and it is closed no hole through it when cold also only reads 4 ohms I'm sure this will be the issue ..as it's jammed shut when cold
Witty - Great video! I'm starting in on the fuel/ignition system. What's the best way to tell if the pumps are working? Have someone crank while someone listens to the pumps? Also, did you pull just 1 injector? As far as I can tell, there isn't any fuel being delivered to the cylinders (#1 cylinder spark plug was dry). Cheers!
Hey Stan. So on crank over you should here the fuel pump. That said it might not be producing the psi pressure needed to fire the injectors. You can pull one injector put it into a glass jar and crank the engine to see if fuel is grit g to the injector 👍
Hi. I broke the 4 fuel lines that goes to the engine. Is for a 1977 porsche 924. Any idea what is the proper name and where to buy aftermarket replacement in usa?
Hi Axel thanks fornthe comment. So are you talking about the fuel lines that connect to the square shaped fuel distrubtor unit and then go directly to each injector? If so you can get new kits for this on ebay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354256093439?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=iWK1gCxGSsS&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=8h9VmC7aS7i&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Hey Paul. I'm just fitting a new fuel pump as mine looked to be on it's way out. If that doesn't help I may start looking at the fuel distributor. Good luck with yours 👍
Hi Ryzen thanks for the comment. So the 2 things you need to confirm. 1. Do you have a spark coming from the spark plug so pull the spark plug and place in safe position and see if a spark occurs on turn over. 2. Check if you have fuel present at the injectors. Again pull an injector out and place in glass jar and turn over the engine and see if fuel sprays out. Let me know how you get on 👍
@@Witty924 the Spark plug works and the fuel pump Is working i can try the injectors like the video ? And i doesent have fuel pump relay i use a cable to activating pump
@@ryzenx-no1bl yes do the injector test. Even if your fuel pump works if you do get the right pressure the injectors wont provide fuel. So do the injector test. If no fuel comes through then look at the warm up regulator WUR which most likely will be the cause of no start based on fuel pressure. It might just need a good clean

Before going to the Fuel injectors basic settings should be tested like fuel pressure is the first place to start a diagnosis on any CIS injection

Hi Satin, you injectors should just pull out. The o ring rubber seals should be snugg and not cracked to ensure a good seal.
