Yeah, the first 25-30 hours are fantastic, if that were the whole game, it'd be an easy 9/10 experience. Music's great too, one of the best OSTs on the PS1, hands down.
speaking of that i did a cover of Niedel from the Arc the lad 2 game ^_^ check it out and let me know what you think :) th-cam.com/video/WmZ5Wt95ocI/w-d-xo.html
You missed the best part about Deikbeck. In the instruction manual, the game titles the page dedicated to his mechanics as "Sucking Deik" and it's... Working Designs is something else.
Before finding your channel, I had never even heard of the AtL series. Over the course of the handful of years I’ve been watching, I’ve only seen you talk about them a few times, but the videos are always fascinating. Kinda like your non-JRPG videos. They don’t show up too often, but they’re always a fun watch. Anyways, thanks for another solid watch. I love ya, Caspy baby.
I'm glad you took a look at this one, Sidequests were by far the best part after the first half of the game comes to a screeching halt and the focus allot more on them in arc 3 which is my favorite of the series.
i recently played through arc 1 and gave up a few hours into number 2 even though it seemed better in every way.. came here from one of your other videos and im enjoying the channel, good to see a fellow aussie doing jrpg vids!
Yeah, 2 is a long, long game and I don't think it improves quite enough to justify the time. I do not blame you at all, hey. I appreciate you sticking around as well, nowhere near enough Aussies doing jrpgs, it's kinda sad. Thanks for the comment!
The more you describe the plot of this and the first game, the more it sounds like another PS1 RPG just following the Final Fantasy 7 tropes, but looked up the games releases and both came out before. Also, you seem to really like that Legend of Dragoon music, a future review perhaps?
@Fresh Burrito My original comment was too generic, it should be among 2D JRPGs. I think newer AAA 3D JRPGs must have had more deep quests than it, no?
If you end up liking atl 3 i'll eat my hat see you enjoyed the story of the guild quests you might like how the overhaul in that regard with the sequel. dungeons too guns.
A friend's older brother loaned me this game because I liked Lunar 1/2. Your opinions pretty closely mirror my own, though I was much more fond of it in my childhood.
just because wd localized both does not mean lunar and arc the ald are gonna be the same game. if anything stuff like arc the lad shows why i can't get into srpgs. they are just more padded then a normal jrpgs as battles take much longer.
I think you should try this one tactical RPG known as Treasure Hunter G. It’s one of many role playing titles for the SNES that unfortunately never left Japan, though there is a decent fan translation that’s been around for almost 20 years now. The story is also a bit of a clusterfuck, even by typical JRPG standards, but I think you’ll get a kick out of the combat and overall presentation.
similarly to da game da 1st half of this is fueld by machinegun wit that hits every minute or so its truly brilliant but da later half devolves n2 an uncharitable slog that rly tests the viewrs patience and resolve to make it to the next less than stellar punchline that while not angry jo level pales in comparison to the 1st half.. makes u wonder if this was intentional but then u rembr its a casp video
I thought Golden Sun was the first game to combine parties from both games. Turns out I WAS A BIG FUCKING IDIOT. Interesting that the new main character is called Elk, which is Japanese for Arc.
The gear upgrade system can be abused so hard depending on what it is. Some gear seemingly has an absurd limit if you're willing to savescum enough for it. You thought that machine gun for Shu that paralyzes but only has a paltry 8 attack was a bad weapon? Ohhhhhhohohoho its maximum potential is so high it can carry you through a very large chunk of the game. And it still paralyzes, which on top of the upgraded attack is totally busted.
Oh damn. Makes sense that the climax of the best half of the story was lifted from somewhere else. Reminds me a lot of the Yang scene from FF4 as well.
Yes the latter half has problems but if youre like me and have rose-tinted glasses and actually enjoy grinding and have a high tolerance for busywork the game is a 9/10
The fact that people watch keeps me going, but mostly I like doing something close to a thorough job. You never know when the final moments of a game will surprise you!
Think I can tell myself to finally stop thinking about to finish the last hours of Arc 2 after this vid, plus I don't want to grind. The enemies having a low hp animation without indicating their direction can be compared to Treasure Hunter G, an older snes tactics RPG where it does have the same problem but on the enemy menu will show a pointing arrow to indicate it.
Another outlier here, but I think the beginning of this game was a huge slog. I almost gave up, but pushed on and I think things pick up a lot once you get to White House and keep going from there. I actually love the section of the game where it has you follow all the different characters as they pursue their own plans, before all coming together again, I'm a sucker for simultaneous story arcs, and criss-crossing plots an stuff like that. Definitely agree with a lot of the criticisms here, the game was too long, had too many characters to balance out, the battles got boring REAL fast, and the final dungeon and boss sucked (didn't take that long to beat though. Choko's vanish was doing 600+ damage for me against the boss, and I had Sania use transfer on Choko every turn so she got two turns per round). But I pretty much hated almost ALL the side quests. I thought they were largely tedious and boring, and not very interesting in their plots. Arc 3 was way better with its jobs, IMO, and nothing is worse than those five cursed jobs involving the Volcano dungeon. my soul died a little every time I had to go back in there
I saw a reply notification from you, but I can’t read the whole thing :( When I tap on it, it also shows no replies on my end. Anyway, keep in mind my comment was still genuine but go back and look at the first letter of each sentence. :)

I don't understand you're use of an ableist slur. it makes you sound really immature and bigoted and undermines all the work you put into your videos. I've watched several of them so far and the first time you said i figured i would ignore it but twice is a pattern and it's just unnecessary. I'm sure considering you use the word you're not going to care that it turned me or any other viewer off from watching you.
