One fateful night after making it to Moon Flower Palace in 2, I accidentally lost all of my progress by saving over the file with a separate challenge run I was messing around with. My favourite ps2 game when I was kid. When I was a kid like 7 years old and saw this "sword game" in a store and begged my dad to buy it. Glad he did, we spent a lot of time playing this together. I finished this game multiple times as a kid, and many many years later bought it to ps4 and got 100% out of it. FLOOR 10 BACK ROOM OF THE FOREST DUNGEON IS THE BEST GRIND SPOT FOR YOUR WEAPONS. The only enemies there are werewolves. They drop 24 abs per kill and you can bounce back and forth between the back floor and the actual level as much and as long as you want and all enemies respawn upon entering, however, if you somehow get the limited zone for "reduced abs" on floor 10 of Wise owl forest, it stays that way, and the only way to get rid of it, is, unfortunately to restart your ENTIRE FILE. ( this happened to me once and I was SO PISSED)

I love this game series, especially the first. It was the second game I ever beat the first being Final Fantasy Mystic quest. I think my parents found out about the first game from my uncle and mayby even persuaded them to get a PS2. I typically always status break 1 weapon and put it on the next then get said next weapon up to lv5 before going to dran. Each new character goes through at least the previous dungeons level before moving back to current progress and doing this keeps everyone about the same power level.

  • @victors151

Dark Cloud 2 was pretty good. Dark Cloud 1 was stressful with its thirst mechanic. It was like a timer. I just wanted to explore the dungeons at my own pace, not be rushed by some strange gameplay mechanic. That was my 6 year old self, though. My older brother was really the one who played and beat both.

One thing this review is missing is that at it's core like most dungeon raider games is that this is a grinding game. I believe the developers intended players to take characters they unlock back to easier dungeons on more frequent runs to level up their gear. The more you do that the more likely you are to encounter weapon chests and chests with backroom keys.

I don't think i've ever met anyone in person who has the same passion for this game as I do... This game.... it's apart of who I am, and who I grew up to be. When days we're bad as a child I'd always have Dark Cloud. When I wanted to have a good time, there was always dark cloud - (Despite covering my eyes at the 'scary parts of DHK) IYKYK!
As I got older and new consoles and modern games came out I moved on to Halo, R6Vegas, Gears and COD. The biggest regret in my young life was selling all my games & PS2 for a whopping $70 for some stupid mistakes I made.
I have spent my entire adult life tracking down all of them, and am a collector & avid gamer/streamer in my free time. However there's always been one thing I always come back to: This game....
I replay it maybe once every two years and listen to the soundtrack often at work (wise owl forest & Dran's theme are my favorite). When I'm doing filming/graphic design I literally float and am dialed in.
As you mentioned, and others in the comments - it makes you feel some type of way. Hopeful, energetic, motivated and challenged, and yeah the banging sound track is I think what gives me the most comfort. I'm so happy to hear about, and see other people reach out about how this game has had an impact on them. It is truly a once in a lifetime game in my opinion- for the ones who were lucky enough to stumble upon it. THANK YOU for sharing this with the world, and I hope to do the same as I'm gearing up to stream this. More people NEED to know about it. Maybe one day they can remaster/ continue the series, I think i'd have fainting episode - but seriously i'd be more excited for this over the anticipated release for GTA6.
Subscribed my friend, this video made my day

Sat on my grandfathers knee when i was young and watched him play video games like this and World of Warcraft, he was a father figure to me throughout my life and he passed 8 months ago. i sometimes look at the ps2 cases for this series and get a really strong urge to smoke a j and play through the game, i think its his way of letting me know to chill the f out and enjoy the little things, lol.

Hey genuinely and sincerely this comment made me cry my eyes out at 2:30am so thank you for sharing such a lovely story about you and your grandfather. He sounds like a wonderful man, and i'm glad that any of that time you spent together still stuck with you.
I'll pour one out for your old man, my friend. Cheers.
