Thanks for the great video! I have been playing this over the last few days, and beat it today. This video helped me get a few missing keys and was fun to watch after the fact as well.
Damn I remember routing this a few years back, never recorded a run though :p I believe there is a skip in the first level and in treetop, where you can skip a section by falling down from hanging down a ledge to dodge fall damage death. Also I remember the knife being super strong for some bosses. Good job !
Hey MisterMunkki , that's cool you played and routed this some time ago. You should definitely do a run still ! I'd like to know what the skip might be in level 1, as it's quite linear. As for treetop level 6, I did a lot of exploring on that level when looking for improvements to the route laid out by "itsme_baruch" and I think I found the same skip you're talking about. It was kinda hard to find but It still ended up slower than the volatile key ledge jump I did here. Regarding the knife, can you remember what bosses exactly ? I must admit I didn't check the knife strength on bosses specifically. As good as the knife seems to be (somewhere in the realm of shotgun per stab), high powered automatic weapons ala minigun & pulse rifle seemed to be the dominant winner.
We talked about this in another speedrun video, but I never knew there are 4 Turok games for gameboy. If you still got that super long and detailed textfile somewhere I would be super happy to read it, especially the parts about the story of these games. Turok was always very special to me, and I hope every day that Nightdive Studios decides to remaster Turok 3 and Rage Wars aswell sometimes :D Great job on learning all these games and getting those runs, and thank you for giving those games the love they deserve. They are really fun and helped me survive many long car drives as a child.
Hey Firebrand. I remember being aware of Turok: Rage Wars and Turok 3 via some British Nintendo publications at the time but unfavourable reviews led me to not get them. If memory serves the Turok 3 review in "Total Game Boy" magazine gave it around 50%! Although I can totally see where those reviews came from I'm glad I got round to playing and speedrunning them all as they're pretty good speedgames, and something just feels right about completing the series for the Game Boy that I also hold dear. Weren't they the good ol days huh ? :) Long journeys with Metroid 2, Turok 1 & 2, Wario Blast, Mario Land 1 & 2 etc. As for the detailed text, I didn't really go into the story of the games at all, merely parroted the stories written on either Wikipedia or the Turok fandom pages. These in turn were probably first found in the instruction manuals to the games themselves. The texts I wrote expanded mostly upon what I felt about the games and extensive details of the speedrun itself: Routing, strategies, tricks/glitches. As the details got so large I felt that it became more of an exercise in learning how to document for myself, maybe also as a future reference to pass onto other runners, while still writing in a style that would've been suitable as a YT description piece. If I can find a way to post them as a file and put them in each video description I will but you have been warned :D
@@Giganotabehemoth87 Those really have been the good ol days, for sure. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a Turok game for gameboy after playing the N64 games for so many hours, and being especially hyped after it was such a fun and addicting game. Would have been a blast to know that there have been 3 more games in this series. Can't wait to get home from work and get those games a try myself :) As for the text, I think it would still be great to have a source for them to read them and follow along your journey of learning and forging the speedrun. Guess I have to look up the story on wiki and fansites then, but like I said, I could see your text be a valuable ressource for people who might get intetested in those games.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the game.

Like all Game Boy titles from Acclaim, this one does not support Super Game Boy enhancements.
