Thanks for making this opener's guide, really helpful to understand how it compares to the first one. Honestly I'm so hyped for this game but one point of disappointment I have is how they sorta split the classes that had dual-weapons - like Strider being gone and Magic Archer no longer having access to dual knives for melee attacks. I'm supposing this is to focus the classes and make sure you have access to a wider variety of skills for each weapon type, but it was so cool to be a strider and open with a couple ranged volleys and then burst into the fray.
I've already pre-ordered it and no one is going to convince me to regret my choice. This game is potentially the GOTY 2024. Haters anyway spit on all games

I can’t wait to get my hands on mystic spearhand. Looks super cool. Played the first game for years and I’m taking time off work for when this one comes out.
Could not agree more. Before I first saw gameplay of the Mystic Spearhand I was considering actually playing as a Mage or Sorcerer for my first playthrough as I never really played the magic classes in the first game. Now I am 100% playing the Spearhand as soon as I get access to it in game.
I played the first game multiple times and had a fantastic experience and I know that this game for damn sure is going to be an improvement or at least let’s pray because sometimes it’s hard to be the original
Excellent video well presented thanks looking forward to watching you play when it comes out after watching your video I am leaning closer to pre purchasing this one
As a player of Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen I am extremely excited for this game. I'm leaning towards mystic spear or warfarer. Here are some things I think people need to learn from the 1st game that apply to the experience of the 2nd: -Fast Traveling is not a reliable mechanic. In DD1 fast travel is not super accessible you will use consumable rare items to travel to specific locations using fast travel. you can lay down reusable consumables to mark fast travel points like in botw with the placeable fast travel, but they still require the rare elusive ferrystone. Dragon's dogma is less about fast travel and more exploratory travel you are meant to retread the same roads and walk the paths to be fully immersed -Pawns are everything. These games focus on you, but gameplay focuses on you working with your pawns to overcome obstacles. Pawns are less your sidekicks more your equals/companions. They will point out weaknesses, POI, and important info on where you are. They also will do equal damage relative to you. You will have to fine tune your squad to deal with tough enemies. -Class importance. Don't think you can go out and defeat everything with a single class you will be destined to fail. DD focuses on utilizing a range of abilities via you and your pawns classes. A sword may be weak to heavy armor, but electrify that sword with a wizard's spell and you can shock through armor. Class fantasy does get fulfilled as you will be expected to play as that class. don't pick wizard if you intend on getting hit and moving around quickly. You on your own will be a glass canon, but with a warrior and strider pawn you will make quick work to cover each other's weaknesses. Also HUGE NOTE: don't feel afraid to change classes the game encourages you to check out other classes and no progress in a class is lost should you start a new one, you only have to build up the new one, but once you return to an older class it continues from where you left off. -Make sure you invest in your class. Overtime in DD you will gain points that can be used to get more skills for your class with special moves. Don't hesitate to spend them to get cool abilities. The strider for example can get helm splitter, explosive shot, tripwires, and many more trickster like abilites that can put your team in the advantage. Feel free to experiment and mix and match abilities to your hearts content. -I hope this is retained in the sequel (unconfirmed advice from the 1st game): don't be afraid to use pawns as multitools. If a boulder is rolling towards you don't feel afraid to throw "Jimbo Crimbo" directly at it to shatter the boulder or throw them out of the way of devastating attacks. Also feel free to throw your pawns off cliffs as initiation into your party its a sign of good will in classic dragon's dogma :)
Great edit. As a creator myself (different account) I know the amount of time the research and editing here took. Well done, definitely subscribed. Cheers
i always loved sorcerer and magick archer in dd1. trickster is super unique so i'm also insanely hyped for that one. heck, i may just use warfarer with all 3. some content creators, across both demos, have confirmed that vocations will alter you stats when you swap to them. in the first game you would get permanent stats, based on your vocation whey you trigger the level up and your current level with some thresholds altering the numbers. the old way let you min max but if you changed your mind later i could suck, going between a magical and physical vocation for instance. this system mean no leveling is wasted, all points are altered to fit your current vocation so if you want to go mage for a while but later on you want to try thief all you need is to get the gear for it and you just as capable as those who were a thief the whole time. this gives you all the freedom to experience all the 10 vocations have to offer, a genius move by the team to respond to feedback from the game. even if you don't believe in min maxing, it's still nice to know that you have this level of freedom at all times so you can have fun by trying everything out. for romance they said you can romance anyone but implied that some npcs will have more detailed romance plots than others. likely the ones that they've drawn attention to will be on this list, of getting more detailed romance, but there may be more like them and maybe not everyone we've learned about will get this treatment. we'll have to see on release.
@@edwinalcox1810 yeah, that was a pain anyway. having to be a sorcerer exclusively for almost 200 levels to buff mystic knight or magic archer damage was annoying. now everything is useful all the time. to make a build it's all in the gear, skills/spells, and passive augments. remember that the augments can be mixed together no matter what vocation you currently are and no matter what vocation that augment came from. some augments from a vocation are weird so they may suit another vocation better or a set of augments that have synergy may all be from different vocations.
@@jockpackage1770 I agree with you. this way you have more freedom to play what you want when you want and not have to play this at a certain level and something else at a certain level to min max your attributes.
Ive had it pre ordered for a few days now, already created my characters and pawns. Nothing is stopping this train. I still want to listen to videos talking about the game though.
I look forward to spamming max lvl Maelstrom in tiny rooms again, though now that stats adapt dynamically I plan to exploring the Thief, Archer, and Spearhand more, along with MagicArcher regardless ^^
I'm so excited for this one! I preordered on pc I have a feeling I'll be putting in at least 150+hours at minimum. Thank you for the amazing information it's nice to have some insight.
Important fact: your characters size makes a big difference, a small light character won't be able to carry much and can be carried away by some enemies like harpies.. with the new mechanic of being able to pull on big enemies to knock them over i would definitely go for a heavy and tall... I ended up restarting the first game when i learned this (was only an hour in) and what a difference... Supposedly longer arms gives you better melee range to, but smaller is harder to hit. So for mage or archer short and heavy would be good?
@@purplewitcher turns out you can change your character OR your pawn with one of the items (the metamorphosis item included in deluxe edition, and also "available in game") which says "you can't change race or body type (aka gender)" soo, if you change your mind it looks like you can just change your character after anyway.
I'm gonna get this game, i won't be convinced otherwise, but i don't know when. With a new baby, I'm gonna be strapped for extra money to get it, but damn it am i looking forward to it
Definitely have to be more classes rhat havent been announced. Theres gotta be an advanced thief and archer classes, as well as hybrids with thief. Id be so disappointed if they didnt do that, and itd feel like something is missing
I have decided to buy the physical copy on release day because it comes with a pre order only steel tin and I'm a sucker for steel collectors tins but il be streaming asoon as the post man delivers lol..
I remember trying DD1 when I was young and being so lost that I dropped it pretty quickly 😂 But so many years later, I'm now excited for such a unique-looking experience! Oh and I 100% see myself being a Sorcerer or Mystic Spearhand. I usually go archer builds whenever they're available in a game, but the magic in DD2 looks too cool to pass up
I have never played the first one. I am confused on one thing about the vocations. Once you select your "advanced Vocation" are you allowed to change it later? Or are you stuck with the class for the remainder of the game?
You need to progress a little bit in the game, like an hour or two, then in the first game you unlock each vocation (very easily) and you can freely switch between all of them at an inn as often as you want, same for Your pawn.. the other two pawns you just replace with new ones for free.
Got the game last year during a sale and I fell in love with it. I will wait a few months before purchasing both because of the price and I'm expecting the game to be a bit unstable and have a few bugs in the first month at least since it's become the norm for modern games. Still incredibly excited and can't wait to try out different classes and face so many different monsters.
I think they all have a large skill set, and a mage thief would have movement abilities RPG-wise you would imagine. So maybe it just doesn't fit their gameplay.
I know Warfarer can kinda do anything, but I was kinda hoping for a Paladin type/Magic knight. I'm still gonna play, probably thief it up into spearhand XD
i hope they add some DLC for the Elven Faction but this is only if the Elven Faction isn't Very "Elaborated" on, like you simply go there once or twice and Do a few Quests for the Elven Siblings then never go back. Hopefully the Elven Forests are kind of like their own little Nations.
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen was a game that I loved right away. I hope the second game has the same level of action and combat mechanics, but seeing the trailers and its analysis, I could see that the game is exactly what I wanted. I just hope they work more on the story... which in the first game is very shallow and even boring to listen to. I really liked your analysis, it helped me a lot and I received information that I didn't have before. #GOTY 2024
The story of the first game is the result of limitations and cut content, the traces of the story they wanted to tell is still there though (specially the parallel worlds),but when it comes to the sequel they already stated that they fulfilled the original vision they had for the first game with the sequel so i bet its story is more fleshed out.
I wonder npc's are gonna comment on it, mistaking you for an elf, if you slide your ear customization to be pointy eared, or if that makes your character count as an elf.
Thanks for your well researched and informative DD2 video. This has helped me (a DD noob) to better understand this game and make the decision to purchase. Cheers!😊
my most anticipated game this year. No hate towards elden ring i love that game a lot my fav games are fromsoft games , but im more excited for this then the shadow of the erdtree
Still have trauma in pre ordering games, as someone who is working in IT industry I am pretty aware of the lifecycle of games now. They usually focus in releasing an acceptable version of the game and improve on that after go live. Which means you'll get more of your money's worth if you wait a while after release and focus finishing other games first
I can't wait to explore iv been spamming dragons dogma 1 for the past 2 week but I don't wana burn myself out so il wait till release now and play star wars over the next 2 week
I hope they don’t just add a bunch of old monsters and skimp out on new ones. I really hope that’s the case, I’ve already spent 300+ hours fighting all of these monsters, I want new ones.
This ticks all the boxes of Everything I'm after in a game for sometime now, can't wait to physically own this! Curious enough DD dark arisen works surprisingly well on my switch so seeing this visually is achingly phenomenal I've never been one for multiplayer games but having the options too is very well thought out, I'm too busy to multiplay anyway as I can only play in short bursts anyway, I'll create pawns of my friends to duke it out with a monster n such, and scaling huge behemoth creatures gives me massive shadow of the Colossus vibes, seriously tho if this doesn't at least get a nomination for goty I'll eat my partners shoes, her prized pink unicorn slippers 😅, this game looks absolutely breathtaking, I'm soo in love with it already, awesome preview/review you've done have yourself a great day
I love the design of the mythological creatures. It's exactly how I imagined what a chimera would look like. And that sphinx... Her face is beautiful, almost human, but then her movement, stare and smile are anything but. So creepy. I love it.
The 8gb vram for those that don’t know about tech it’s very demanding for those minimum requirements, your frames will dip and overheat the gc not Meant to be played on anything lower than an rtx2080.
I hope theres a way to remedy the hp loss mechanic. I can see it getting annoying down the line, late game or something. Also im assuming personal portacrystals will make it back, as the world is huge this time around.
I will never be able to get behind that reasoning for the save file thing because I know for a fact people have different save files for different builds, not because they make a mistake in one and start the whole game over to fix it😂
You dont have the Problem of multiple Builds, because your Stats are Levelbased. It means, every Level in every vocation has fix Stats (If i understood it right), so you can Switch between every vocation and dont need to worry about having your Stats misaligning with your build :) I think thats a good way of avoiding this Problem
@derfuchs3988 oh I know, I played the first game, but the issue was that people want to do entire playthroughs as say, a mage/sorcerer, and not make their warrior into one halfway through. And to do that, you have to delete the character that you've spent dozens of hours with, which just feels bad because you get attached to that character and your custom pawn after a while
2 things. Its cool theif just combined assassin and striders dagger skills. I saw helm splitter and assassinate. 2, has it been confirmed if our non main pawn can lvl with us or if its like dd 1 where you have to replace pawns regularly? Always sucked having a pawn i liked for it then to become useless.
Just a question about the hybrid classes if you know, so if I’m like a fighter, could I switch to the trickster at some point, or is the trickster just for mages and stuff? Since it’s magic
Ive tried playing the original recently in preperation but i dint like frustrating games that make me redo something because i was curious or couldnt beat an enemy yet
Hope you guys enjoyed the preview ! What are you most looking forward to in Dragon's Dogma 2 ?

If a boulder is rolling towards you don't feel afraid to throw "Jimbo Crimbo" directly at it to shatter the boulder or throw them out of the way of devastating attacks. Also feel free to throw your pawns off cliffs as initiation into your party its a sign of good will in classic dragon's dogma :)
You can make yourself an elf simply by making the ears elven. I will be doing this with my pawn for roleplay reasons.
I’m so glad they kept the tornado spell for sorcerers. Hopefully it’s as overpowered as it was in DD1. That thing MELTED health bars
The character creator is lit I love it!
Only weakness is the lack of hair options. Other than that, character creation is crazy deep
Great video, really looking forward to playing this coming week
Hope you enjoy it 😊
I played and loved the first dd. So i pre ordered the deluxe edition. I can't wait for dd2 to come out. Im counting the days.
Great edit. As a creator myself (different account) I know the amount of time the research and editing here took.
Well done, definitely subscribed.
Cheers
Much appreciated my friend ! 😊
Been waiting for this game ever since dark arisen, i knew it was a gem that would get a second game. The 22nd can't come quick enough.
Looking forward to mystic spearhand, will definitely be dabbling into magick archer and warrior though!
i always loved sorcerer and magick archer in dd1. trickster is super unique so i'm also insanely hyped for that one. heck, i may just use warfarer with all 3. some content creators, across both demos, have confirmed that vocations will alter you stats when you swap to them. in the first game you would get permanent stats, based on your vocation whey you trigger the level up and your current level with some thresholds altering the numbers. the old way let you min max but if you changed your mind later i could suck, going between a magical and physical vocation for instance. this system mean no leveling is wasted, all points are altered to fit your current vocation so if you want to go mage for a while but later on you want to try thief all you need is to get the gear for it and you just as capable as those who were a thief the whole time. this gives you all the freedom to experience all the 10 vocations have to offer, a genius move by the team to respond to feedback from the game. even if you don't believe in min maxing, it's still nice to know that you have this level of freedom at all times so you can have fun by trying everything out.
for romance they said you can romance anyone but implied that some npcs will have more detailed romance plots than others. likely the ones that they've drawn attention to will be on this list, of getting more detailed romance, but there may be more like them and maybe not everyone we've learned about will get this treatment. we'll have to see on release.
That means there is no min-maxing though, right?
@@edwinalcox1810 I really hope so
@@edwinalcox1810 yeah, that was a pain anyway. having to be a sorcerer exclusively for almost 200 levels to buff mystic knight or magic archer damage was annoying. now everything is useful all the time. to make a build it's all in the gear, skills/spells, and passive augments. remember that the augments can be mixed together no matter what vocation you currently are and no matter what vocation that augment came from. some augments from a vocation are weird so they may suit another vocation better or a set of augments that have synergy may all be from different vocations.
Nice !
I look forward to spamming max lvl Maelstrom in tiny rooms again, though now that stats adapt dynamically I plan to exploring the Thief, Archer, and Spearhand more, along with MagicArcher regardless ^^
Your voice is so soothing for these kind of videos! Makes the long format feel so much better to hear! Subbed for more videos in the future! 😄
Thanks so much for the kind words 😊
I'm so excited for this one! I preordered on pc I have a feeling I'll be putting in at least 150+hours at minimum. Thank you for the amazing information it's nice to have some insight.
Trying to decide if I should preorder for the bonus gear or not. I think I will try rogue first.
Bonus gear can all be unlocked later in game. Only reason you should pre order is for the preload.
Ive preordered the delux edition on steam. cant wait. def my most hyped game in 2024 so far
I have dragon dogma but only played until you get first pawn. Think I'll play a few hours more.
As someone who doesn't have Playstation Plus I'm glad it's not needed for Dragon's Dogma 2. Now I can get awesome Pawns made by other players.
Organic view and sub, thank you for a really well planned out video explaining DD2 to someone like me new to the game!
Super glad you enjoyed the video 😊
@@purplewitcher Really glad to find your TH-cam and be able to interact/help anyway I can! Your content deserves much success! Cheers!
Thats actually super interesting, I'm gonna spend sooo long making my character 😂
@@purplewitcher turns out you can change your character OR your pawn with one of the items (the metamorphosis item included in deluxe edition, and also "available in game") which says "you can't change race or body type (aka gender)" soo, if you change your mind it looks like you can just change your character after anyway.
i really wanted to make a calico but they just dont have a good lightish brown
Great video! So excited already created my arisen and pawn little more then a week to fine tune them 😊
Thanks Karl 😊
@@purplewitcher you’re welcome! Was curious do you know if stamina is unlimited outside of combat?
So are the mages in the party not going to be able to heal? We can only heal at camp?
Starting as a fighter aiming to be Mystic Spearhand by the endgame!
If they add a DLC like The Bitter Black Isles, I think I'll be ok, as that DLC alone had me interested for 100s of hours lol.
mystic spearhand or magic archer. so damn excited for this
I'm gonna get this game, i won't be convinced otherwise, but i don't know when.
Yeah I think there will be a secret one in the game somewhere
I have decided to buy the physical copy on release day because it comes with a pre order only steel tin and I'm a sucker for steel collectors tins but il be streaming asoon as the post man delivers lol..
Preordered I need that mystic spear hand
I remember trying DD1 when I was young and being so lost that I dropped it pretty quickly 😂 But so many years later, I'm now excited for such a unique-looking experience! Oh and I 100% see myself being a Sorcerer or Mystic Spearhand. I usually go archer builds whenever they're available in a game, but the magic in DD2 looks too cool to pass up
Great video, I can't wait to play mystic spearhand
Hope you enjoy it!
I have never played the first one. I am confused on one thing about the vocations. Once you select your "advanced Vocation" are you allowed to change it later? Or are you stuck with the class for the remainder of the game?
if this game is like the last one you can change between any vocation at any point throughout the game
Hope you enjoy the game !
@@purplewitcher Thank you, same to you!
I've never heard someone pronounce it like "gæm" until now and I'm here for it👌
😂😂 thank you
Why doesn’t the thief get an advance/hybrid vocation? That’s not fair.
That would be really cool
Cheers!😊
You're very welcome, I appreciate the kind words ! Enjoy the game my friend
my most anticipated game this year. No hate towards elden ring i love that game a lot my fav games are fromsoft games , but im more excited for this then the shadow of the erdtree
Sooooo what are the new mechanics? I would expect info on this before any story info.
Sorry..you've probably heard this many times before but can you say: "Jon Snow, I'm a wildlin' ". Awesome video!!
😂😂 thank you
Only played a little of old one .. enjoyed the TV show though and excited for DD2
Realy looking foreward to this one.
Let's gooo 🥳
I like and subscribed. I enjoyed your video and learned new things
Welcome 😊
Coming from souls games not having more than one save sucks since I like having a cursed looking character and a normal one.
It's fine to only have 1 save slot, but I think they should still allow multiple characters to be made and played. Just have one slot per character.
Beastren sorcerer for me, just like my first ever D&D character!
i just hope all the old ones gonna be in the game too like basilisk and grim and so on
@@Jh0than And the source is...
@@akjaq545 the dev just talked about it in the last publicized video also all the merch released is only of the 10 classes
@@Jh0than He was talking about monster from the first game 🤣🤣
@Jh0than he said monsters, NOT CLASSES.AND 10 VOCATIONS (not classes, called vocations)is entirely more then what we had in dragons dogma 1
I hope they don’t just add a bunch of old monsters and skimp out on new ones. I really hope that’s the case, I’ve already spent 300+ hours fighting all of these monsters, I want new ones.
Ive already made my Arisen and 2 main pawns
11 days and sometimes the best experience is not knowing what to expect
Great video, thanks!
You're welcome!
This ticks all the boxes of Everything I'm after in a game for sometime now, can't wait to physically own this! Curious enough DD dark arisen works surprisingly well on my switch so seeing this visually is achingly phenomenal I've never been one for multiplayer games but having the options too is very well thought out, I'm too busy to multiplay anyway as I can only play in short bursts anyway, I'll create pawns of my friends to duke it out with a monster n such, and scaling huge behemoth creatures gives me massive shadow of the Colossus vibes, seriously tho if this doesn't at least get a nomination for goty I'll eat my partners shoes, her prized pink unicorn slippers 😅, this game looks absolutely breathtaking, I'm soo in love with it already, awesome preview/review you've done have yourself a great day
It's gonna be a great game 😊 have a lovely day too !
I love the design of the mythological creatures. It's exactly how I imagined what a chimera would look like.
And that sphinx... Her face is beautiful, almost human, but then her movement, stare and smile are anything but.
So creepy. I love it.
Since i loved witcher 3 and this game is giving hell of a vibes....i will give it a chance...discover a new world
The 8gb vram for those that don’t know about tech it’s very demanding for those minimum requirements, your frames will dip and overheat the gc not Meant to be played on anything lower than an rtx2080.
I'm excited about the part of the game when I started playing 😂
Really wanted mounts. As in horses to get around
Wish I could get it but lost my job and start a new one next month so no way unless some one could possibly help out
I hope theres a way to remedy the hp loss mechanic.
It means, every Level in every vocation has fix Stats (If i understood it right), so you can Switch between every vocation and dont need to worry about having your Stats misaligning with your build :)
I think thats a good way of avoiding this Problem
@derfuchs3988 oh I know, I played the first game, but the issue was that people want to do entire playthroughs as say, a mage/sorcerer, and not make their warrior into one halfway through. And to do that, you have to delete the character that you've spent dozens of hours with, which just feels bad because you get attached to that character and your custom pawn after a while
Alright, yea i get your point. Well, lets See how it all Plays Out :) @@KodasGarden
Yeah you can choose any advanced vocation, no matter your starter vocation
Logged 245hrs roughly on the first Dragons Dogma
Hope you can put just as much time into the sequel 😊
Advanced vocations are not straight upgrades to starter vocations Capcom confirmed this
Ive tried playing the original recently in preperation but i dint like frustrating games that make me redo something because i was curious or couldnt beat an enemy yet
"Wolves Hunt in Packs."
