      Thanks for your positive comment on the video. Yes there are some places to eat before leaving the airport. There are a lot of different ticket options, and it's v dependant on your itinerary. I'm actually making a video on this topic as we speak. If you're staying in central amsterdam, I would consider the GVB ticket or iamsterdam ticket or possibly the Amsterdam Travel ticket.

    Great video thank you. To your knowledge, can I purchase a 24-hour GVB pass to take the 195 bus to the Van Sloten Windmill from the airport? Afterward, with the same ticket, I would take Tram #2? Does that work?

    • @pocketlighthouse
      @pocketlighthouse  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. Thank you for your feedback on the video. I just had a look at Google maps, and it looks like the 195 bus is run by Connexxion and not GVB, so you'll need to get a separate ticket for that part of the journey. Afterwards, I believe tram no. 2 is run by GVB, so the GVB ticket will be fine.

    Thanks for your regular updates. Liked and subscribed. If I were to ask for your opinion as I’m coming in June to Amsterdam for 3 days and the morning of the fourth day I have a 7 am flight. It’s just the two of us. We want to spend our time exploring Amsterdam so not keen on some over the top expensive stay. However don’t want it to be some hostel either as we would like our privacy. Where would you recommend?

    • @pocketlighthouse
      @pocketlighthouse  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comment. Where to stay in Amsterdam is tricky especially during the high season. I'm afraid I don't have any firm recommendations as I've never stayed in a hotel in Amsterdam before. I have heard from family and friends that WestCord Art Hotel is good. Separately I've had a tour of Bunk Hotel and they have an interesting concept of individual rooms above a sort of upmarket hostel - all based inside a former church.

      I just got back from my first trip, beautiful city. BUT.......... catching a train, i asked two conductors on train "does this train go to this location?" "yes" came the reply. A few stops later things didn't seem right. So asked a passenger she said "not sure". Then both original conductors came back i asked them again, This time "No, this train does not go there, You need that platform over there" This was another lie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. By sheer luck i jumped on a random train and got there! No thanks to two Dutch conductors a man and women!. And yes i was very polite so why mess about with a frail man on his own in a strange country/city. Plus another lie, there is not a tap in out system on ALL public transport! i had to jump a barrier! stick to taxis if you can afford it, my average trip 50 euros for a 20 min ride, but at least they get you there.

    • @pocketlighthouse
      @pocketlighthouse  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, I'm glad this video has been helpful. A 5 hour layover is a tricky one. If you have luggage to collect, and then to check in again at the airport - this could eat up a bit of time plus it's hard to predict what the crowds and security will be like. For 1-2 hours in Amsterdam, I don't think it's worth the trouble going back and forth to be honest.

We didn't have cash so he surcharged us for a card. Total was 52 euros. I think we were totally ripped off, and this guy was driving a tesla and using the official taxi stand. I’m a local and live in amsterdam. I never take taxis. But flight arrived late, trains werent running, all sharecars were gone. So had to do it. Cost me 45euro for a 10min trip with a rude driver
      If anybody is reading this, try to take the public transport to your hotel if it’s daytime and you don’t have 2 much luggage. Or have a sixt/sharenow(free2move) account for carshare which you can drop in almost all of amsterdam. Theres usually 10+ cars available during the daytime. Taxi (even uber) should be the last option

    • @pocketlighthouse

      Yes OVPay is available on NS trains too. If you're using an international card, might be worth checking the OVPay website on what's accepted.

  • @TheSimArchitect
    @TheSimArchitect 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    InterCity trains have a tricky extra fare from the airport you need to have validated if you're using an OV Chipkaart. There's tiny devices at the platform and there's no obvious signage of where you check in. You're very likely to get a fine if you don't do the second validation. A bit bonkers as they can detect automatically by the place you check in, out and the time you take. Thankfully NS were helpful but be warned!

    • @bryanaaldering
      @bryanaaldering 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This is only for the intercity Direct trains to Rotterdam (and Breda)!
      The extra fare is only for domestic Intercity Direct trains on the highspeed rail line between Schiphol airport and Rotterdam. If you don't want to pay this fare, you can take the normal intercity trains.

    • @TheSimArchitect
      @TheSimArchitect 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bryanaaldering Thanks! And no, I don't mind paying. I just think it's extremely confusing when you're not aware of how. Even when they keep saying on the speakers to pay for it, there's no easily identifiable information. Even when an employee "pointed" from a distance I could not see it and I had to work hard to discover later. I don't know why they don't make it more obvious as it's right at the airport.
