One of the most important aspects of the X-Men is the social aspect. It was as much a political cartoon as an action series. That's part of why it still holds up, story-wise. Action-wise, the writers of the animation knew what they were doing and set the power accordingly. Usually - Jean Grey is a little underpowered. Animation-wise, there were shortcuts that were unnecessary, but understandable. Otherwise, it's very well drawn, bright works much better than understated in Western cartoons.

Throughout the entire series, the cartoon went back to each one of their back stories which explained the majority of the episodes and their individual personalities. I liked it because it was not just about them being heroes, it actually went in to their personal stories and their personal struggles in a world that was prejudice against them.

I loved this show as a kid but...X-Men? I’ve got to sin this. 100 foot robot PUNCHES through the mall entrance and then tells people “Do not be alarmed.” What? Lol Said robot can’t walk anywhere without putting craters in the floor, he’s blasting lasers in public, destroying an escalator, a store, car sign, mall roof, AND ANOTHER entrance to the mall, and blasts a beam destroying the floor (that would have probably broken Jubilee’s spine had Gambit not caught her), and another beam at Cyclops and destroys a streetlight. Can we get the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in damages that this thing did just to capture ONE teenage mutant? Worse...it FAILED 😂 Sentinel sees Storm, a mutant literally shooting lightning out of her hand and says, “ignore” as if that is a logical move...but then needs to dispose of Gambit, a mutant throwing exploding PLAYING CARDS? Who programmed the sentinel’s artificial intelligence? Initiating capture? Not only was this robot the dumbest idea financially, they also decided to program this extremely slow moving robot to speak its commands with a loud speaker so its targets know what it is going to do beforehand? That’s just the robot. How about Storm who has powers of using lightning to change into a latex outfit? She also has enough durability to get blasted through a glass ceiling and still have casual conversation. Rogue flies around in a short dress. Well, everyone was running away right? 😂 Gambit’s eyes are red and BLACK like some demon creature but needs to announce that he’s a mutant. The woman at the store just flirts away regardless of this red eyed, spandex wearing, orange haired, dude buying up multiple decks of playing cards? 😂 And then there is Cyclops who...stands around in parking lots in a blue and yellow spandex suit with a visor on! And introduces himself to a random stranger AS CYCLOPS! 😂. Sorry. How did I never catch these!? It was the intro! A kid seeing that intro? They already had us all hooked! They could of sold us anything at that point.
There was always the same deal at the video store when growing up in the 90's, borrow three for the price of one for three days, of course the stock changed around but EVERY time my mum would take me to the video store I would ALWAYS get out the first three episodes of X-Men on VHS, I couldn't get enough of it, Jubilee, Rogue, Storm, Gambit, Cyclops.. if I remember right there was also Beast/Xavier/Jean episode and a tragic Wolverine/Morph episode where Morph died trying to save everyone and Wolverine felt super butt hurt about it but I can't remember the details.
