I agree super sweet response but was thinking it might just have the auto flex plate and not a flywheel with clutch which would be massive weight reduction
My first car was a 289 hi-po T10 trans Detroit Locker rear, a 6000 RPM hit would leave an entire city block in tire smoke. With slicks it would lift the front wheels.
My classmate's Father had a Tiger II W/ 289, 4bl. and headers and he could yank the front tires up an inch or so skyward with stock tires! The car was sick and a real sleeper to the unaware!
@@topcan5600 The flow depends on what size chokes are in the carbs. Thats the wonderful thing about those that you can easy change the cfm and jetting. I would guess its flowing around 750-850 depending on the rpm range the engine was built for.

I have always loved the 289 it revs so high and quick and has won numerous races over the competition. First time carrol shelbys 289 cobras raced a bunch of vettes the cobras left them in the dust.
What a beautiful sound. Very responsive little blue oval beast. Blue Oval forever. ( I'm not royalty or a soldier crab. I just bleed blue from being a lifelong Ford fan.)
Very nice...I built a K code engine years ago that had 11.5:1 compression with the heads reworked to take the chevy 1.90 intake valves, running weber carbs with the Ford LeMans cam and hooker headers...sounded similar. Mine pulled 360 BHP on the dyno on race gas...I would swag yours is closer to 400.
Big bore, short stroke is the beginning of a recipe for high RPM and POWER!! In the 60s I had a Fairlane with a 289/2 barrel. In the early 1970s, car manufacturers were detuning their engines for emissions and improvements in mpg. After you reversed a detuned engine, you had an engine that was born to run. In the 1970s, I modified a 455 in my '73 Toronado, a 390 in my '72 Ford pickup and a 460 in my '77 Mark V. Ahhh yes ! The good ol' days of push you back in your seat torque.
Back in high school in the late sixties there were two model A's being driven to school by fellow students,, one had a 327 Chevy the other had a 289 cobra,, with this type of carburetion and driven by Danny Thompson son of Mickey Thompson,, the little 289 will blow the doors off at 327 at any time any day....
You can just put a 302 crank in your 289 and achieve 13 ci more displacement. More than 13 if the engine is bored over. 331 and 347 stroker kits also fit most 289s same as they do 302s.
looks like a nice little motor! That injection is pricey unfortunately. My old opinion of the small block Ford family has done a 180 over the past few yrs. Think they’re a great choice to build upon.
My grandmothers Mustang with a balanced and blueprinted stock internals and an intake, big Holley, headers and HEI could easily outrun my 67 SS Camaro....it was embarrassing.LOL LOL LOL
Question on the "Forged Crank". I contacted SCAT and EAGLE about 5 yrs ago asking about such an animal. They said one does exist in their offerings. I then asked about a custom crank, and was told that they do no make any cranks with less than a 3" stroke. So has this changed or did you get a Forged 302 (3.00" Stroke) crank and have it destroked down to a 289 (2.87" Stroke)? Thanks, Ron
The cam you need for that is a TRW tp-109 508 lift 318/320 diration with 110* overlap they run good and run my old 289 up to 9,700 Killer injection though ran two 60cfm on an offy tunnel ram 13 to 1 stroked and balanced .30 over
Hi - loved the video - just wondering what cam you used? Also compression 11.8:1? Just trying to learn this stuff as planning my first build. If higher compression does this require different octane fuel? Am looking at same heads and just want to make sure I match these with the right other components. Thanks for posting a fantastic video. Cheers Jerry
I'm assuming you've already built your engine but yes, the higher the static compression ratio (volume of cylinder at bottom center : volume of cylinder at top dead center) the higher the octane rating you'll need. Now I'm curious, DID you build your motor and how did it turn out?
Wow theres my engine for my Mustang. I’ve planning on using that induction system after a lot of research and it’s definitely my choice. I’ve tuned a lot side draft Webber’s and Solex’s and love them. So adjustable. Can we see it in the car soon?
That ram induction setup must make that 289 one nasty little sucker. Powerband 5000 to 9000rpm? What was the setup offered in the FoMoCo perf parts catalog in 66' and is Inglese a better setup?

Great engine - no doubt. But I'll bet it had an automatic trans flexplate on the back just so they could use the starter. No way a built 289 revs up and back down like that with a normal 30lb or more flywheel.
