Had a tyre company get fussy so i tipped a 40' on their floor and drove off. They behaved the next time. Building supplies co went home early even knowing i was coming. Got a telehandler from their neighbour and dropped it over their gate so they would have to climb over the gate in the morning. Happy days

If B&Q are so quick to fine companies for early delivery then maybe haulage companies should start fining them for delayed drops, especially when it causes unnecessary nights out like yours. This is a good example of why I went into PCVs instead of LGVs.

Turn up at 8:00 for a 12:00 drop, leave at 11:00, that's still a 1hr win in my book. They could have held him back till his drop time, that's happened to me many times and even when I am only dropping 1 pallet.

Surprising how B&Q home delivery service can’t deliver early, on time or the same day. I worked for a company who built kitchen displays for B&Q. I waited over a fortnight on a delivery from Branston depot, to Hilton. Delivery instructions were that on Fridays we finished at half past three. Twice they turned up after 4pm when no one was on site. Delivery consisted of 2 sinks, one oven unit and a few clad on end panels. It was eventually delivered in a transit connect van after a phone call to a B&Q director. 😂😂😂😂

Maybe they issue fines for being late/early because too many folks ignore the drop time they have been given, If they have their own trucks plus external loads coming in, then it makes sense that they would want to control when this happens.

I can't see B&Q giving fines for being early. That just doesn't make sense. "You're early mate, so I'm going to fine you!" "Well ok, I'll just wait somewhere else then. You can't fine me if I'm not asking to get tipped." Hmmm!

he may have been coming in for a collection and therefore will take priority. its just the way it is. plus, it looked like a tonk so they would likely have gone round to a different part of the building that bigger trucks cant fit. plus, didnt he say at the beginning that his tip wasnt until midday? if so, he was 4 hours early and B&Q could have asked him to go park up and would have been in the right!

Try saying that at Sainsbury’s stores. I set off early to deliver to a store I used to frequent. The Sainsbury’s truck was always on the sole unloading bay. One day I was there first, the unionised store a made me pull off so their own truck could go in. Then as per usual, the store a went up for breakfast with the driver. Nearly as bad as unloading at Ford Dagenham. The controller there was one of the worse units you could ever meet. 4 quick and short journeys loads per night meant the last one was all profit. He made it impossible to do that. No wonder the contract was easy to get. I stopped doing it and as far as I know they had to increase their own fleet and take on more staff. It would have been cheaper to put the delivery rate up. Having said that the controller would have held you down to two loads a night. The unions won that one. They deserved what they got when the shut the vast majority of that place down. Just like they killed off British Leyland and even the BMC part.

Customers are usually accountable but it's up to the truck company. I have demurrage after 2 hours but give them 30 extra minutes before I start charging. It's 2 thirds of my drive time charge due to not using fuel whilst parked. The last 2 companies I worked for both charged demurrage (Toll & Japan Post). The idea is that it speeds them up with loading and tipping.

Had it happen lots of times. Companies closing goods in in the afternoon or even refusing delivery because it wasn't booked in.
There was a notorious company in the west Midlands that used to keep you waiting even though there was no queue, I recall an owner driver turning up at this company who told me what happened to him.
He'd back loaded out of Sheerness with steel rods and being already booked to load early next day he drove to the company to deliver his back load early thinking they'd have him in straight away. However, the goods in just told him to park up and he'll give him a shout when he's ready. Lol.
He replied that he'll have to shout load because if he's not going to be tipped ASAP he's gonna take it back to his yard. Lol.
    So he didn't get tipped.
About a month later thebowner driver had a call from the company asking where their steel was as their customer was expecting it to have been cut to size and ready for them a week ago and they were having to hold up production their side.
He told them it was still on the trailer in his yard and told them the story and that they'll have to wait for him to get back to his yard or send someone to collect it.
So another happy customer, he said he wouldn't want to back load again from Sheerness to that company anyway.
It's the old story of a Companies office taking on too much work, to keep their bonuses up, even though they couldn't keep up with the schedule.

The rigids (HIABs and 7.5T/10T) and transits are B&Q home delivery vehicles that are loaded in separate areas to inbound vehicles (at least that’s in Swindon store). That’s why they got in before you. The B&Q artic is inbound from DC and it normally takes around 2 hours to tip and load it back on with waste to go back to DC. It seems normal to me but I can understand why it’s frustrating when you’re waiting and it looks like people are pushing in.

I don't understand how some of these companies stay open. I was a secretary for a firm of solicitors re both commercial and housing conveyancing. If there was a completion for a particular day, we had to complete it and that's final. We never told a client that they had to come back another day to finalise their property. It had to be done on the stated date, and I've done several completions in one day. Talk about stress. I know where I would park, and that's right in front of the gates. Depending if the person you talked to is actually a worker for the firm or a security guard for an agency, he probably couldn't give a toss

  • @graemerose1616
    @graemerose1616 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The annoying side of logistics. I can understand places that have time restrictions if a site has residential close by, buton the right day / having enough space should not be an issue. When you consider B&Q have had issues at some stores with plant deliveries with no space in the garden centre / yard, pushing H&S regs on space, they can not refuse the delivery, so some store end up putting the stuff in the car park (risking theft). Having worked for Tesco aswell, it was "get tipped if I have enough room, first come first served, unless you have a timed pick up, then get down the side." Some lorries would deliver frozen, the get a timed pick up for frozen bread... so do not want to get bumped down.
As for fines for early, head office stupid rule? Areasonable manager would accept it so they can store it then have time later for other things.

I literally quit a good job because I couldn't take one more delivery into a B&Q for the sake of my own sanity. The final straw was when they started dictating to us how we must strap our loads (which was obviously dreamt up by someone who had never done the job) and then, the first delivery after that I drove 200 miles to the store on the south coast to be told that "its windy so we cant unload you, can you come back when its not windy?". I gave them the choice of unload it now or i'll take it back and they'll have to pay for the return... they opted for taking it back. Apparently one of their grade A incompetent forklift "operators" managed to drop a fence panel on themselves so health and safety had decided that they cant operate in the wind anymore..... at a store, next to the sea.

Didn’t want to be to far away from truck. I’ve got a TV, unlimited data, laptop, ect so I can enjoy me evening that way too ☺️

They are essentially stealing from your boss.

@@lukecinahgv I wasn't trying to be arsey Luke, but once is enough, or maybe twice just to remind people. But if you thought I was being a jerk, I can only apologise.
However, speaking as an ex truck driver, when people just won't get out of your way!! I've lost count of how many times I have had to have words with van drivers who think they know how it is because they're in the same business.
One time when I was in my mid 20's, I was getting some diesel and had just paid and was about to pull off. So I'm inching my way out when this jackass pulled in front of me and backed up to the pump. I asked him politely if he wouldn't move out of the way as he hadn't even taken the cap off yet. So he looks at me, looks down my rig (I have a drag on a 7.5 tonk). Then he looks back at me and tells me I have to back up. You know that colour you see that turns pink when you add white? So anyway, I told him if he didn't move his car out of the way I was gonna see how long it would take for me to roll over it with my truck. He moved!!!

I remember when going on mine and my hubby's first holiday together from Manchester to Cornwall, all on the main road (A49) through the night back in the 1970s. We drove through Bristol (before satnav), and I don't know how it happened, but we drove through a churchyard, through one gate, down between the graves, around the church, and through the gate at the opposite end. Have never driven in Bristol since🤣

You arrived at 8 o’clock for a 12 o’clock time slot you just fell unlucky that the RDC waggon was already in there they always take 2-3 hours to tip and reload. Wait till you have 15 of them in 2 days you need the patience of a saint 😂😂😂😂
