The Gypsies didn't make Angel a Vampire. They gave him back his soul, forcing him to live eternally in guilt over the countless crimes he had committed over 145 years as a Vampire, out of his 243 years. Angel was born in 1727 and then sired in 1753 at 25 years of age. In 1898 he was cursed by the Kalderash people as vengeance for killing their favorite daughter. Angel has lived 98 years trying to make up for all of his evil deeds, since being cursed.
I think Jenny is an interesting character. She is conflicted between how she really feels about Angel because she's close to the gang. It's easy to hate someone you don't know, but because she knows and cares about Buffy and Angel, she has a hard time doing what her family is telling her to do. Also, I think she represents the push and pull 2nd generation kids feel towards their cultural heritage. She's proud of her heritage, but she is conflicted with it as well. Great reaction!
Everyone forgets the real obstacle their relationship which is Angel being a vampire and Buffy being a vampire slayer. Either they part ways, she turns, or one of them dies. Those are their realistic options and it's the definition of tragic
I mean, its a credit to the writers that they made a doomed relationship even more tragic and doomed this season, enough to have a meaningful impact on the characters.
Dream sequences always played a big part in The Buffyverse. We could see Buffy's prophetic dreams re: harm coming to Angel. This episode Surprise, is where this show really starts to seriously pick up regarding the arc of the Season. We see Jenny being visited by her strange uncle looking for revenge. The excitement from Drusilla and Spike when The Judge comes back to life is great. Buffy on her birthday gets her Surprise party, Oz steals the show, and is just so laid back when Willow explains to him about everything. Without doubt the coolest character in The Buffyverse. The title Surprise is still coming to Buffy, we see her losing her virginity to Angel here, but see Angel in such pain in the rain at the end after what has happened. There is of course a sinister reason for this. This is really a two-parter with E14 which is just exceptional, where all is revealed. From now on the show really does improve so much and goes like a rollercoaster, you can just see it getting slicker and more polished.
Jenny's uncle is played by Vincent Schiavelli ("Fast Times At Ridgemont High", "Ghost", "One Who Flew Across The Cuckoo's Nest", "Batman Returns" and "The People Vs. Larry Flynt").
It always annoyed me when Buffy was all "Well, we didn't find Drisilla's body" because vampires crumble to dust when they die. (The exception being The Baiter and his bony bones)

Cordelia's case is left a bit more ambiguous, but it's eventually implied that she's a virgin at this point at least. Also, Angel's curse isn't to constantly "inconvenience him", like, in this world, vampires canonically go to real actual hell when they die, so this curse is intended to make him suffer a true "living hell" worse than actual hell, for all eternity...
It did kind of feel like an info dump with the Uncle thing. Like they were running out of time before the thing happened. That’s one of the only times I can recall that happening so abruptly like that.
I remember an interview that Joss Whedon made . In it he said " there will never be a SPECIAL episode of Buffy " , and the like two weeks later , this episode aired.

i think they are mis-remembering the curse ? Around 24:58 Suraj says that the gypsies " made him a vampire that has feelings. " When in actuality " Angelous " was a vampire ( that did horrible , horrible things ) and the gypsies cursed THAT vampire with a soul . ( The original soul of that body ). It's not the same thing. The way Suraj tells it , it sounds like the gypsies cursed a human with being a vampire. OR they cursed a vampire with " feelings ". I hope they correct that assumption.

That makes Angel more than just dirty-minded. That makes him a statutory rapist. The sad fact is, the Buffy and Angel relationship was Edward and Bella, before Edward and Bella. But since the show is written better and the writers are aware of the fact that it can't go down the road Edward and Bella went without having the characters not learn or being represented as characters to learn not how to act from, it ends up being a more long-lasting story. The reason Buffy comes off as Bella is because that is how kids feel about romance at sixteen. It was the point of their romance as The Normies even pointed out by saying others knew it was headed towards a breakup aka she doesn't want to stay with him in "the box" forever. Are The Normies assuming Luke is The The Judge or do they just know they are the same actor? It was hard to tell. It's interesting to hear people say Buffy is a heavy sleeper, because Angel's apartment is underground, Angel is outside, and there is a storm. I have to say, I really didn't expect you guys to become some of my favourite Buffy reactors - I thought you'd be too silly, jokey, and distracted for a series like Buffy which has really intense emotional moments. But I'm really enjoying these.

The question "Why don't they just kill Buffy?" would be fine if they were just psychopaths out seeking vengeance. But they want more than vengeance. They want justified retribution.

I have to say, I really didn't expect you guys to become some of my favourite Buffy reactors - I thought you'd be too silly, jokey, and distracted for a series like Buffy which has really intense emotional moments. But I'm really enjoying these.

They want Angel/Angelus to suffer because they feel that he greatly wronged them, and they feel that causing him to suffer as a result is justice. Buffy however is an innocent in this. Not only that, but she actively protects/helps people. To kill her would be for themselves to cause a great injustice. The question "Why don't they just kill Buffy?" would be fine if they were just psychopaths out seeking vengeance. But they want more than vengeance. They want justified retribution.
What I want to know is, would they have bothered to put the curse on Angel if he'd picked their second favorite daughter to kill?

@@highlymsinformed4583 SUPERNATURAL surpasses Buffy for you???!!?! I watched nine seasons of it and then quit because i hated it. I really tried but other than charming leads, it had nothing going for it. Plotlines predictable from a mile away because they were recycled.
