Oh, Spike and Buffy, everything I never knew I wanted from them. LOL This is one of my favorite eps of the season. "How? What? How?" "Three excellent questions." just might be my favorite, most underrated joke in the series.
Spike's empathy is, somewhat ironically, his most dangerous weapon. As a vampire he might not so much care about others but he has an exceptional understanding of them.
Spike is someone obsessed with love, so he can recognize the symptoms of lovesickness. He literally described himself as "love's b*tch". So it makes sense he notices romantic stuff before others do.
....Spike went out of his way to console Willow/boost her confidence in the initiative. Once dinner was off the table for him. That's not nothing. A more evil thing to do would have been to see her insecurities and dig at them more, not relieve her of them
Welcome to the ship of Spike and Buffy aka Spuffy. My favourite joke this episode is Amy going from rat to human back to rat so quickly that Willow and Buffy never even noticed.
"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" is not about gifts. It's about items that are part of the bride's attire and accessories. So the bride might wear a new dress, a veil that's been passed down through her family, a best-friend's earrings, and carry blue flowers.
This. It’s always so odd to see a group of people not be familiar with something that I’ve known from like, age 4. This group does that a lot, lol. Almost every video, one of them says something that makes me think, ‘how does someone not know this, let alone 6 or 7 people??’ 🤣
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 Ikr! "Pangs" the previous week & another word they had no clue about before that episode, which I've forgotten but thought at the time: "Huh? You all have never heard of that?!"🤣
Willow just said Spike and Buffy should get married, that could have gone a few different ways🤔 I feel like the fact that they both went to "sickeningly in love" says something about their personalities
He's also kinda the low on the evil end. Everything that is done is techincally asked for. Maybe not how people intended but Genies are often portrayed the same way and nobody considers them evil.
Love love love this episode. Season 4 is so consistently funny. Some of the best single episodes of the entire show (NEXT WEEK!). People often say this is their least favorite season, because the myth arc is weak, but damn if it still doesn't deliver. Also, my second favorite episode is next week! I am hyyyyyped.
The reason it didn't work is actually pretty interesting. The incantation of the spell involved her passions being done. So far, she's not passionate about healing, she's avoiding the pain not working through it. It's interesting that she never said anything about Oz directly. If she had we might have been having a very different episode.
Haven't seen this episode in quite a while. Sooooooooooo much foreshadowing happening in this episode. Makes me believe that the Buffy writing team was just so on point with things...near & far. I would've loved to have been a fly in that writers room. "Oh, you're doing THAT to Willow in this episode? How about we have Riley helping out this college group in MY episode"
Someone needs to tell Pat the Spurs first Championship was 99 they beat the Knicks. Btw Spike is very perceptive once you get into his backstory you'll see why.
That's why Pat should stay away from making more basketball-related videos. He just makes assumptions instead of doing proper research. This dude seriously claimed that there are bugs on the moon.
Even though S4 wasn't one of my favourites overall, it did contain some brilliant stand out episodes of which Something Blue was one. The comedy here is achingly funny, and this episode contains so much foreshadowing for later episodes, you can see in S4 Willow becoming more reliant of magic each time she has a crisis, and that the potential Spuffy relationship is hinted at, but in a comedic way. Hilariously funny when Giles and Buffy use the words impotent and flaccid referring to Spike in the bath. Interesting too that Spike is so much more perceptive of Willow's pain over Oz. Overall a great episode to look back on.
If you could only see how happy it made me when a few of you got excited about Passions. I love both shows. I watched in real time when Passions also referenced Buffy. ❤
So much foreshadowing in this episode and one of Buffy's funny and next episode is one of the greatest episodes of genre TV ever. This episode and episode 8 of Angel S1 for a lot of Buffy fandom really doesn't help Riley.
Even though they hate each other you can't deny that Spuffy has the best chemistry of any relationship in the show so far. I mean you can, but you'd be wrong and I'd call you a dumbass for thinking it.
Every time someone in the ep says 'Please stop' I reply with 'No, CONTINUE'. 😈😼😄 and the way he says "Slayer' at 19:40 , it was delivered especially good, so you see why she kissed him after. I mean c'mon. They wanted to play a joke here. But they had no idea. And the joke played them. Because don't play with fire, kids. It will overpower all your plans. This is the kind of episode when you want to see the reaction of as many people as possible.
that's an interesting point you got there about vengeance demons.. You think about demons as beings of evil, and the show supported that with the initial makeup and demeanor of Anya in "The Wish" episode, she very much reminded me of a Banshi-type creator, but when you think about it, they are simply women who have been scorned and are exacting revenge on behalf of other victims. When you think about it, when Anya approached Cordy at the wish episode, all she did was talk with her, and let _her_ drive the punishment she wished. I am not saying I could ever do it, or that it is right, but it does make the demon=evil statement a little murkier, which in turn, makes the Buffyverse all the more intriguing.
Remember Spike is still a soulless demon he doesn’t like or care about the Scoobies he just needs them right now and he’s perceptive about human emotions
An episode meant to be laughed at in the way they laugh at most episodes. The fanfiction episode. 😁 7:09-7:16 Not only poor Timmy, but RIP to Josh Ryan Evans. Cookies make what Willow did better? 🙄
Im pretty sure Willows spell transported spike back to the open field by buffy. Whixh ia how she found him so fast and spike comments he must have gotten turned around
"Pat's a sports nerd." Ohhhhhhhh, it all makes way more sense now. That's why he is the way he is, his insane takes remind me quite a bit of people I've known over the years and they were also sports nerds, I don't know why that is a reoccurring trait though.
This season as a whole may be pretty 'meh', but it has some of the best one-off episodes in the show. This one is absolutely hilarious -- and on rewatch it's even got me to *almost* start liking Riley.
Austin Powers 2 was already finished filming by the time Oz left Buffy. You are right about 'Knockaround Guys' and after that 'Family Guy' and co-creating Robot Chicken.
Spike and Buffy make a cute couple. Much better than manic depressive Angel and wheat toast Reilly. Too bad that she can't be soulmates with a soulless demon.
Think about Anya's original line with Cordelia. I wish Buffy Summers had never been born. She had no self direction. Just a fulfilling of the wishes of the wronged.
I like your discussion about a single wish, because you started to think about the effects being too literal "no more homeless" could lead to those affected suddenly vanishing instead of actually placed in shelter. Trickster genies, demons etc have used the literal wording of wishes to cause havoc in popular media for decades". The old adage "be careful for what you wish for" still rings true today.
It's not specifically pointed out by the characters but I always liked the contrast this episode gave Anya and Willow; Anya jumped at the chance to become a super powerful vengeance demon and dove head first into 1,000 years of inflicting horror, murder and pain on anyone she felt like and has never once mentioned feeling bad about any of it. Willow gets offered the same gig for effectively the same reason Anya did, but Willow's not even slightly tempted. Rather she's horrified and immediately just wants to go help fix it and then afterward expresses nothing but guilt and contrition over it even though it was entirely unintentional.
willow didnt create anything with the spell, we only saw it influence others, so while she could make people help the hungry and homeless more, i dont think she couldve just created infinite food and housing
I’m not sure if they simply didn’t get it, or the conversation just kinda went off the rails to talking about general wish fulfillment. Also, making one person blind, or making 2 people want to get married takes far less power than altering the consciousness of tens, or hundreds of millions of people around the entire globe. I mean, I know it’s a show, but when I see these guys start running with things like this, it kinda hurts that at least one of them couldn’t reason out that magic takes considerable power, even to do small things & just because you can make a pencil float, that doesn’t mean you can move planets around or fling the Empire State Building into New Jersey, lol..
Also those greater "will-be-dones" would've had greater consequences. So like, the rainforests being burned down to provide more housing. Or the world economy collapsing and everybody being turned into serfs who were provided housing and food. Or somebody like the Mayor taking over and stopping all war.
27:10 While they call Anya a 'vengeance demon', from her point of view she was a 'justice demon' there's little, if anything, she feels bad about having done during her demon days.
