Great video TJ. Born and raised in St. Albans, raised my kids here, still here 60+ years. Pahal Grocers used to be Blockbusters, the Spice shop next door was Chemist Warehouse and many other shopfronts, but as a child I recall it being the Ice depot, selling huge blocks of ice for our fridge, which was basically a wooden cupboard and the Milk Depot was also there, where they delivered milk in glass bottles to our door by horse and cart. Lots has changed.
you used to be able to buy Soft Drinks by the Crates also from there....can't remember the name now. They also delivered it to your House for a weekly fee...mixed drinks

I remember the old SES and would've forgotten about the Duty Free if I didn't watch your other video. Do you remember the police station on Main Rd West that closed when they opened the one in Keilor Downs? The 90s were an awesome time to grow up. This video made me feel nostalgic.
Thanks for filming this, bought back alot of memories from this area in the late 90s for me as well especially you driving down all those familiar streets. And with the skipping viet school to go play Street fighter the whole day feeling guilty going home thinking parents would find out lol and use to put the coin on the machine screen to say your next in line lol

Grew up there. The little "Upstairs" arcade on Alfreda was the spot for us. Having a Banh Mi and a smoke while chilling and playing streetfighter. Going to punch on's at Errington with all the boys lol. Usually weekends was either a house party or the occasional Phantasy underage nightclub event near the IGA. Moved away in the late 90's but mate the memories!
I remember the upstairs place, it was a little pull joint full of either old Macedonian or Maltese men.. they had a very old street fighter rainbow edition machine and alpha 1 I recall. Lmaoo phantasy .. I remember that aswell! Good old days

Back in the day even before your time we used to hang out Up Top witch was on top of Stan Cash car Park on the CB radios was the best time and that scout hall has been there since i was a kid and I'm 55 now
My auntie and uncle used to live in St Albans and Kingspark in the 80s/90s/2000s…there was a pay phone to the right of the Duty Free in St Albans. For a while in the early 90s, someone realised you could make free overseas calls from the payphone. From then on, there would be a line of parents aged people lined up waiting to make free phone calls overseas to their relo’s 😅
I think that happened to every public phone, once it been found out the word will pass around, and people will line up to call back oversea home, and sometime last a week until Telecom come to fix it up.
Love and hate St Albans! But it's home these days. Loved your memories growing up there. I wasn't raised there. Still rough around the edges and sketchy at times, but 200% more chill than back in the days according to most long term St Albanians i talk to

I remember hearing of sta**ings at St Albans McDonald's. Back in the early 1990s, I lived in West Footscray near tho hospital. There was a fish and chips shop on corner Essex Street and Eleanor St, they had space invaders. Every local kid would be lining up to play it

@TJ Do you recall any parts of St Albans being rougher than others? (I.e the four main pockets divided by Main rd East, West and East, West Esplanade)/St Albans rd. I recently drove through the pocket behind Keilor Plains train station. Looked and felt very different (Large 2 story houses, maintained front yards).

Wow .. st Albans would’ve been a paddock back then.. I remember many people died at ginifer station (furlong road) .. I can even remember sunshine hospital never existed and the closes hospital was Footscray 😅

Everything from getting a gorilla dog with cheese sauce from quix, to video busters, I went to the same fish and chip shop, for a while they had raiden, and then nba jam along with street fighter. I’m still in the area (Caroline springs) but every once in a while I cruise through the area for nostalgia sake.
We probably bumped into each other.. I do remember NBA Jam and Raiden.. I used to always use the purple thunder ammo which always targets the shops. Good old days

There was clothing store in Alfrieda's St near the post office where they'd sell legit Cross Colours and ghetto wear. After that it became a uniform shop for CRC etc. Parents could never afford CC and bought me some other rip off brands 26 red, rasta colours etc.

Taylors has some rough sections, but overall it’s good compared to its neighbouring suburbs such as Keilor downs.. in the 90s I remember Taylor’s lakes had a lot of Aussies, euros running the place. But today, wouldn’t have a clue , I may need to do a visit 😅

@Mr_tj007 I highly recommend to visit Cabramatta if you get the chance. It's not as rough as it used to be, you might still spot the odd piece out, has some good Vietnamese restaurants, I recommend Đông Ba in Cabramatta

I remember hearing of sta**ings at St Albans McDonald's.
Back in the early 1990s, I lived in West Footscray near tho hospital. There was a fish and chips shop on corner Essex Street and Eleanor St, they had space invaders. Every local kid would be lining up to play it
Yeah back in the 90s there were stabbing almost every second day in st Albans, my brother in law at the time almost had his whole arm severed.. space invaders, what a time to be alive lol

@TJ Do you recall any parts of St Albans being rougher than others? (I.e the four main pockets divided by Main rd East, West and East, West Esplanade)/St Albans rd. I recently drove through the pocket behind Keilor Plains train station. Looked and felt very different (Large 2 story houses, maintained front yards).
I remember Keilor plains never existed lol. I think behind maccas was the roughest .. that’s just my opinion though.
I'll check out the alleyway (with caution) lol. I moved to the area in 2020. Really enjoyed the tour. Thanks for sharing your memories of familiar sights 25-30 yrs ago. (Same with Sunshine). 😃

Bro I’m surprised I don’t know you personally. I had the same childhood doing the same shit, going to the same school and shops and everything. Everything from getting a gorilla dog with cheese sauce from quix, to video busters, I went to the same fish and chip shop, for a while they had raiden, and then nba jam along with street fighter. I’m still in the area (Caroline springs) but every once in a while I cruise through the area for nostalgia sake.
We probably bumped into each other.. I do remember NBA Jam and Raiden.. I used to always use the purple thunder ammo which always targets the shops. Good old days

Taylors has some rough sections, but overall it’s good compared to its neighbouring suburbs such as Keilor downs.. in the 90s I remember Taylor’s lakes had a lot of Aussies, euros running the place. But today, wouldn’t have a clue , I may need to do a visit 😅
