Mine is 29 years old.. very sound daily driver.. One component at a time is failing due to old age so I've been replacing the pumps, alternator and basic stuff over the years. Most expensive repair was removing the historic Teves II electric brake system and converting to a Hydroboost setup (thanks to SPEED Manufacturing). Biggest failure so far was seized bearings on one of the roller lifters; flat spotted the roller and slightly scratched up the cam lobe but no big deal. Stock limited slip 3.73 rear end, air ride suspension, JBL amp + speakers, sunroof, power everything, automatic headlights + auto dim, trip computer, security system all worked when I bought it and still does with a few exceptions. This car has turned me from an old school GM G-Body apologist to an old school Foxbody fanatic.

"Most people thought the styling was awkward?" Not from the 80s road test magazines I have. The rear tire hump is an homage to every Mark that went before it all the back to 1940 and most of the reviews at the time, approved.
Several testers got 0-60 in under 8 seconds not 9 seconds, which in 1988 is not shabby at all.
M/T thought once the 5.0. H.O. was made standard in 88 that it was the best road car on the market at that price. (I have the issue) M/T wrote a full page update on the car in 88, they absolutely loved it.
H.P. was updated to 225 in 1989. Only the highest spec Mustang H.O. engines were used in these from the Ford factory. They also had optional 10 speaker JBL sound systems that could make your ears bleed.
By far one of the coolest cars of the 1980s.
I'm not so sure producing 191,000 of a specialty car is considered a flop (?).

Fun Fact: International headlamp styling, 1983-present
In 1983, granting a 1981 petition from Ford Motor Company, the US headlamp regulations were amended to allow replaceable-bulb, nonstandard-shape, architectural headlamps with aerodynamic lenses that could for the first time be made of hard-coated polycarbonate. This allowed the first US-market car since 1939 with replaceable bulb headlamps: the 1984 Lincoln Mark VII. These composite headlamps were sometimes referred to as "Euro" headlamps, since aerodynamic headlamps were common in Europe. Though conceptually similar to European headlamps with non-standardized shape and replaceable-bulb construction, these headlamps conform to the headlamp design, construction, and performance specifications of US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 rather than the internationalized European safety standards used outside North America. Nevertheless, this change to US regulations made it possible for headlamp styling in the US market to move closer to that in Europe.

Cartons of cigarettes butts stuck in every storage place they can stick them in, ash so thick youd think they had a custom ash colored interior, tar buildup on the windows and dash making it all yellow and sticky. Again, cars with 30k and usually 4-5 years old.

@@anselpeneloperainblossom-s3489 He is correct. While I love my 90 Mark VII I bought for the incredible price of $35, I have spent many multiples of that replacing Lincoln specific parts it needed. And I haven't even started on the interior. Still love the car, it's a foxbody wolf in sheep's clothing after all.👍

@@anselpeneloperainblossom-s3489 Have you not been in the car market for the past few years? Foxbodies are now getting expensive, especially if you want one that hasnt been modified. Lincoln Mark VIIs are rare. They get their parts ripped out to "upgrade" mustangs. So many of them are gone now.

    • @lilsammywasapunkrock

Parts are just as cheap and available as they ever have been. Almost every part interchanges with a tbird/cougar also and almost everything that doesn't interchanges with a mustang.
