    For me the HS8 has worked for house parties :) it gets pretty loud but good room acoustics really help with that.

    U can just buy a subwoofer and the hs7 and get clearer results than with the hs8 in the bass area (in the mix). But they are both great monitors. Gutes Video mein Bester👌🏼

    I went to the store with the KRK’s in mind. I hated the low mids and upper lows. They are not anywhere close to flat. I came home with the Yamaha HS-7s. I was very happy. I find HS-5s and the sub on Craigslist for $500. I sold the HS-5s for $250.

    iM IN THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.....hs5 were desinged to be used in no treated rooms . thats why everybody complains about the bass response cuz in treated rooms they automatically decrease the bass response to accommodate to the room...at least they try. I know this cuz I did a little bit of research about them plus I experienced myself the effect of the bass response. When I first got them they sounded amazing in my untreated room, after a solid month of use I decided to put some bass traps and sound absorption in my room and noticed they sounded weak...then I got the hs7(5 years with then now)But I noticed hs5 were more focused sounding and I basically mix faster and more accurate with hs5. Im looking forward selling my hs7 and get hs5 back. Hs7 to me...YES THEY HAVE MORE BASS...but to me they sounds more unfocused and I spent more time trying to focus on the mid range. But hey! thats my experience with then, everybody hears different.

    • @Padbangers
      @Padbangers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well, how do you design speakers for non treated rooms? Each room is different... sounds like typical marketing talk to me, so beginners feel more save to buy them. If you treat a room right (with serious measuring not just putting foam on every wall), it does not decrase bass response! it optimizes bass response and you can get even louder bass without changing levels.

    Hi, thank you for the great video. Could I ask for your opinion, my room is 12ft x 9ft, would you personally use HS7 or HS8’s?
    My concern is simply that the HS7’s won’t have enough bass response and I will have to invest in a subwoofer later.
    For reference, my room is a standard rectangle shape room with full carpet.

      The HS8's itself is perfect, but it depends on your room acoustics and placement of the monitors, if I put them in one place - I am missing lows, in other place in the same room - too much lows.
      So, basically the sound of HS8's is dominated by the room acoustics and placement of the monitors.

    Z Reviews said the tweeters are VERY forgiving with moving out of the way, unless you get almost to the edge of the axis. I think the room your in plays a huge part there. He said that he felt the speakers really needed to be in a large room to meet their potential. Maybe the tweeters are getting drowned out by the reflections in the room?

    Thank you! My home studio is an untreated wood-walled room (not permitted to treat it) with dimensions 8.5' x 10' x 6.9'. The floor is carpeted. Does that sound too small for the HS8's? I like the sound of the 8's over the 7's but I worry that the 8's are too much for a room this size.

    Hello, great review! just a question, what happens if i connect separetly the 2 HS5 and HS8S, is that necessarily wrong? I mean, from my Steinberg UR44 2 outputs directly to the monitors, and 2 outputs directly to the HS8S without sending signal to the HS5 from it. I will much appreciate your help. Thanks a lot, All the best!

    • @Padbangers
      @Padbangers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that would be counter productive.It will cause some major frequency cancellation cause both the monitors and the woofer will output the same frequencies. The woofer has a filter and will only forward a certain range of frequencies to the monitors. Of course you could use filters in your DAW to replicate that behavior but my question is why you want to connect them seperately in the first place?

  • @epicon6
    @epicon6 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have owned both and the HS8 don't give too much bass in the 0 position. In a small room/close to a wall they will but in a larger room there's no way it's too too much. The HS8 have better amps and are better in every way, even more accurate mids, high mids. The HS7 curve is not as flat as the 8 and they 100% need a subwoofer because everything below 80hz is too quiet. But it's great with a sub. And if you want the 7 then definately get the HS7 MP (matched pair) that is sold now as a limited edition that has hand picked components for more accurate performance and both speakers are matched.
    But if you want the better speaker and especially if you have a larger room and want a lot of sound pressure the HS8 are the only way to go

    Hey Padbangers, I know this video is a bit old, and it might be hard to remember the differences between HS7 and HS8; but exactly HOW MUCH worse was the HS8 than the HS7, in the mid and high frequencies?
    I'm really stuck between the two, and don't know which one to choose... I produce electronic and hard dance music (probably known as "eurodance" in USA), so I need a lot of bass-accuracy - which is why I'd prefer HS8. But when you said that the HS8 is a bit worse in the mid and high frequencies than the HS7, I began to struggle with which of them to choose...
    So, which option do you think would be best for me:
    HS7?
    or
    HS8?
    or
    HS7 + HS8S (subwoofer)?
    Thanks for replying.

    • @Padbangers
      @Padbangers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey, I kept the HS8 and meanwhile I got the subwoofer with them (+ sonarworks reference to compensate my shitty room) and this works great. Today, I think the HS7 with the woofer would have been the a better choice to start but if your budget is too small for the woofer go with the HS8 (and get the woofer later - it takes the load from the HS8 and makes them sound even better). I hope this helps.

      FREEDOM I owned both for a time and kepth the 8. In my experience the HS7 mids-highs sound 'better' as a first impression but the truth is the HS8 produces all sounds, even higher sounds more accurately than the HS7. The overall sound is muuuch more natural through the HS8. You always hear that the sound is coming through the HS7 but the speakers dissapear through the HS8.
      And if your apartment allows you to have 80-85db volumes the HS8 win twice over because they can pump out a ton more pressure and fill a larger room. The 8 also sound better when played at super low volume because of the 8".
      Even when paired with a sub the HS8+HS8S combo wins out easily over HS7+HS8S

    • @ULTIMATE_FREEDOM_FIGHTER
      @ULTIMATE_FREEDOM_FIGHTER 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@epicon6 Thanks for that elaborate reply! I actually bought the HS8 some time after I asked the original question here, so I completely get what you're saying. The HS8 sounds simply incredible! It's the best, most neutral and natural sounding speaker I've ever had. I also heard someone else say that the HS7 sounds a bit too "bright/sharp" in the high frequencies, which fits perfectly with what you're saying here. So I was really happy with my purchase of HS8, as I wanted a full-range, natural sound across all frequencies.
      But unfortunately I realized my hearing-damage was too severe for me to continue producing music, so I had to return the speakers to the seller, and stop producing music forever. To stop producing music is one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do, as it was my main hobby in life...

    I am confused by my self about theses speakers. How do you thinnk is it good option to take hs 7 pair with hs8 subwoofer? Or better take hs8 pair with sub? Because i like when mid range and highs are loud aswell but want good base too. Dont like when sub is good but highs are not best.

    • @Padbangers
      @Padbangers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up with the HS8 and got the woofer (+ sonarwors reference to compensate the room issues) and this is a really nice setup for me. the woofer takes a lot of load from the HS8 which make them perform even better. For my scenario the HS7 probably would have worked as well but if I move to another studio the extra power might come in handy.

      I started with just the HS8 but now I also got the subwoofer in addition and I have to say I should have go with the woofer in the first place. It takes a lot of load off the monitors even if the woofer is only playing on a very low level

    • @Padbangers

      @youtubewatcher2006 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I read somewhere that you have a pretty small room. Aren't those monitors too big for a small room or do you have some workarounds to compensate?

    • @Padbangers
      @Padbangers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, actually they are overkill. but I went with them cause I plan to move the studio in the near future. That's where Sonarworks Reference helps me a lot to make them perform a lot better on my mixing spot.

    How far away do these need to be from the front wall? I have Rokit 6 G3's but was considering upgrading to the HS8's but I'm worried about the rear port and being so close to the wall.

    • @Padbangers
      @Padbangers  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say best position is around 70 - 150cm away from the wall (30 - 60 inch) but in general it depends of your room. mine stand way closer but I put an absorber behind them and used the room control settings to compensate

    Have you noticed any hisses or hum from the HS8?

    • @Padbangers
      @Padbangers  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, not really. there is a little bit of a noise floor when you put up the volume but it's very low. I know some people who had hisses and hums caused by their environment (cables, outlets, even noises mouse cursors etc) but a cheap passive DI box solved all these problems.

    • @epicon6
      @epicon6 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      leinadssab Just plug your mixer to the same outlet as the HS8 and there’s almost no hissing. It really is so minimal it will never bother you at all. The volume has to be really high for any small hissing. The HS7 hiss less and have a punchier sound if you prefer that. The HS8 are not as punchy but really deep and the speakers diasapear effectively. I had the hs7 first, sold them and got the HS8 but missed the punchiness of the 7 so now i have both.

      The HS8 need grounded cables to be noise/hiss free. When i plug in 1/4" - 1/4" cable there is noticeable hiss. With 1/4" - XLR there is some hiss, when i plug in XLR - XLR there is no hissing at all. I use a Yamaha MG12 XU mixer. And my computer, HS8 and MG12 XU are all plugged in the same outlet.

      imho krk are overpriced hi-fi speakers. they may work for djs who wanna jam at home but when it comes to mixing the yamahas are way more neutral in sound. if you just want loud speakers with lots of low end, the krks are fine. if you want "honesty" to judge the mix, the yamahas are the way to go in that price range.
