    I did exactly what Streaky suggested: ran the stereo outs into our JBL LSR2310SP subwoofer, crossover at 80hz, and then through to the HS7s. Despite needing to fiddle with the sub volume to balance, it really cleard up the low mids. The frequencies through the HS7 really poke out now, think we’re getting a much better window now.

    I've been using these for years in my home studio and I love them. I don't have a sub (though you may have convinced me to get one) but alone with these I can create mostly accurate mixes that translate to other sources well. To me they fit square in the "damn good bang for the buck" market. They are not overly colorized but at the same time I can listen to anything on them and it will still sound good. I wish I could afford high end monitors with impeccable clarity and detail, but that being said I've been totally happy with these for years and for amateurs like myself they are more than enough!

      CalvinMOfficial Yeah I agree I used genelec 8040s for years and since 2015 I've been strictly using ns10's but at the end last year I got hs8's and a krk 12ho sub woofer and my mixes have never been better ... Hs8's are so accurate and translate so good they're so sick 🔥🔥🔥

    Such an experienced practical review .. unlike some bullshit about how amazing speakers sound for less than $1000 a pair! As an example, I bought a pair of JBL LSR08 8" speakers and although they are flat and got some detail going, the amplication is not that much, only 54W a speaker! Would have expected at least 70W for this size. I missed that bit when I bought them as I assumed 8" would pack a punch in that department. No so any longer .. I think they are cost cutting on amplification! Even my old ESI nEar 08 Experience speakers sound much louder at half the volume and not bad at all for what I paid for them. So this is something to watch out for, unless one wants to crank up the preamp via a decent mixer which is what I am doing. Cheers, that was a sensible review if ever I saw one.

      @theclaverman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. I had both Adam A7X (which are more expensive) and the HS7. I sold the A7X but kept the HS7. I find that the Yammies translates extremely well to the real world... (which was not always the case with the Adams)

      @@theclaverman without sonarworks ? ......

    • @theclaverman
      @theclaverman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ChrisBessy I used sonarworks on both of them :-) I still found the HS7 to translate better.... But I don`t have the HS7 anymore, as they also had their own issues (as sadly most small budget ported speakers have)I simply found that there in general is too much overhang in the low end on budget ported speakers (which includes both Adam A7x and Yamaha HS7), which makes accurate mixing-decicions in the low end a real battle. Short story: I swapped the HS7 out in favor for the Neumann KH310, which is a closed design(no bass port), and I can now drop the guesswork when I`m mixing, and what I hear in my studio now for the first time translates extremely well to the real world. Highly recommended !

  • @the_daily_ping
    @the_daily_ping 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’ve had the HS5s with the HS8S sub for a while and it’s a really great setup for the money. The sub absolutely opens up small speakers like these up to handle the low mids. I had to use speaker calibration software on my last monitor set. Not with these. Great mix translation for cheap.

  • @JD-mn7sv
    @JD-mn7sv 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Streaky isn't BSing. Take it from me, I learned the hard way. I traded my HS7's for Adam A7X's. I was able to get better mixes faster with the HS7 speakers than with the Adam's. Yes the A7X's have better detail in the top and much better imaging, but they have a dip in the low mids coupled with the ribbon tweeter makes everything sound clear. This is problematic when recording real instruments. If you compose with VI's, plugins and samples which are essentially premixed for you to a good degree then the Adam's will work good for you.

  • @robfernandez5234
    @robfernandez5234 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Streaky. I too ran my main outs through a large JBL sub and into the HS7s. I immediately noticed more clarity in the mids. That part works. But the low end got quite cut off around the 80hz crossover. The bass seemed to just fall off. I attribute this to the fact that our mix room is rather small so the sub isn’t contributing much more than a hint of what’s gong on waaaay down low. I went back to sending the mains simultaneously to the sub and the HS7s, and just dialing in some of the sub to get the low end meat, and got back the bass guitar! So.... it’s an awesome waty to maximize the monitors, but the room will make a big difference. I wonder if Sonarworks would fix this.

    I have those at home and i switch between those and sennheiser hd 600 headphones and a single avantone mixcube for mid mono, still feel my listening setup is a bit lacking in the sub 100 hz imo, or sub 60 hz something where the kick and bass gtr is and low freq reverb/amb. I notice that always after a mixdown and listening on the pc speakers or on the tv, etc. Although i just learned what can be potential problems, im hearing better now, but so getting a sub monitor, maybe a yamaha one would be a good choice actually to better hear those lower frequencies, thus get better mixes.

    For that money i rather DIY a Monitor with a Punktkilde 6,5 woofer and a Morel CAT378 tweeter. Goes down to 40hz no problem. Sounds so clean that someone who doesn't know would search the sub. The mid range still stays clean even when the woofer is making my doors rattle because of a we designed Motor (Magnet and Voice coil) and suspension. Those drivers don't need a complicated crossover so very easy to build. Just a coil and a notch filter for the woofer (3parts) and a capacitor, Lpad and Impedance correction circuit for the resonance frequency for the tweeter (6parts) If one sees the circuit shematic even a Child from the Kindergarden would easily understand how to put em together.
    You still need an amp which is easy to find for under 50euros used and you have a set of speakers that can take it on against something that may cost 3grand or so for under 500euros.

My question is whether or not to get a sub to use with the hs7s or sell them and upgrade to the hs8 which I believe has superior bottom end and more body to the overall sound. Or alternatively, is there an alternative solution that you could recommend that will not disappoint for roughly or as near to same budget? My main use for the speakers is for a digital piano. I would be very grateful for your expert feedback.

      @@halsyon2902 I've heard that these Adams sound like Hi-Fi and they are not that flat, it's more like for listening to music than producing... So i don't know man, I think the Yamaha's are the bet that you know that they are not gonna dissapoint you

    Hello, do you use the IsoAcoustics ISO-155 size or IsoAcoustics ISO-200 for the HS7? Thank you

      ISO-200 works for HS7's.

      Small treated room 4-5 inch, medium treated room 6-7 inch, large treated room 8-10 inch.
      Most brands are good. Upgrade to higher end when ready to advance

      i have booth here. RP5 G3 is better for mix bass, high end and stereo and less ear fatigue but less precise in the mids. Yamaha is better for neutral mids and more details in the mids. RP5 + HS7 / 2 = perfect speaker lol.

    I have a question. If I buy those, there is no such thing as "right side" and "left side" correct? I can just buy two HS7s and connect them to my audio interface.

    • @Boleskinebeatz
      @Boleskinebeatz ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct… They’re not any kind of mirror image design.

  • @ronedwards8239

    Massive bump in the midrange. Sounds lopsided and grainy. Rockits are a far better option for mixing.

    I know there are a lot of expensive, overpriced speakers out there, that for sure sound good....but I would not say that this Yamaha’s are cheap....maybe well priced and not for snobs.
