Started this process. Thank you so much for the starter file because I didn't know where to start with creating filed, LOL. I see this process taking some time but being so valuable in the long run. Thank you so much for this video also since I am not so tech savvy so I watched in 2 times, started the process and went back and watched it again. Love all your content!!
The power toys add on and the shortcuts hack are HUGE GAME CHANGERS!! Literally changed my digital life as I have been beefing up my image collection lately. The file structure you created is an AMAZING BONUS!!
Thank you, Jennifer! I have been so overwhelmed with all of my files that I have just stopped crafting. This has truly helped me to simplify my files for easier use.
The shortcut tip was worth the price of admission! I have 30+ years of design files and half of them were duplicate (or triplicates!!) to fit different categories. Thanks so much…You Rock! 🌟
Exactly what I thought, learned lots from Jennifer on organizing my files. Found out I save using the library style, but didn't know about having a duplicate file in other folders using shortcut ( alias on a Mac) method rather than a second copy of original file. Thanks so much Jennifer.
Thank you Jennifer for another great video this will help me so much. Also thank you for the Premade Library what a lot of time and work you have put into this for all of us.... you are just amazing how can we thank you. You know that we all love you so much for all you do for us and can't tell you enough how much we appreciate you. Thanks again, hugs Jewel
You must have been in my head yesterday! I was looking at my mess of downloads and thought oh well eventually my computer will just stop working because of all the junk. Now I’m going to rewatch this video until I figure out how to clean up my downloads!! Thank you Jennifer!
Jennifer how did you know I needed this? LOL! I worked on organizing my files yesterday on my iMac and had a few stumbles. A few minutes into the video you answered some of my most stubborn questions! Thank you!! ❤
Wow that was a very informative tutorial Jennifer! When I get time I’m going to sort my files on my Mac ! Thankyou so much it’s very appreciated for everything you do for us ! Thankyou 😘💐
What a great video!!! I didn't know that "make an alias" meant creating a shortcut on my MAC!! I was duplicating my files to fit the categories I wanted the files to be in. Thanks so much for creating and sharing your file organization templates...what a big help this is!!
One thing not mentioned, is that people should be categorizing commercial use and free use, and keeping track of where they are purchasing their files. This is for our protection. We don't want to sell an item that requires a license that we don't own.
THANKS !- This was so helpful I really need to organize my files - especially since I do tend to purchase png and svg files and didn't know how to keep track of what I have
for renaming on windows, instead of going to more options, there is a symbol of an A in a text box with a prompt line (blinky line) next to the A. I find that easier, but whatever works best for you is awesome!!
I enjoyed the video. Lots of good tips. A faster way of renaming a file is to do a slow double click on the name. It will highlight and you can type the new name. This works on Mac and PC.
Jennifer your video is amazing I would love a copy of the book if there’s one. I have a windows 11, and love to organize them where I can find them easily 👍
I like to organize by having the folders I extract to by names of the creator. I do this so that I can keep track of those with commercial use versus personal use. That way I use only commercial use for my projects I sell. I also keep folders for reoccurring events where I get so many svgs and other files. Those folders have sub folders where they are set by date or time of year such as spring 2024. All of these folders are in a folder named Cricut on my desktop. It has helped me a lot.
This is basically how I do mine unfortunately, I feel like it's not as easy to search for a file as Jennifer's setup. I'm considering doing this setup under each creator. It definitely, gives me some ideas on how to make things more efficient 😊
@@genakovach6008 I feel there is always other ways to do something. I looked forward to hearing how Jennifer did it to see if it would help find what I want.
I have Design folder. In that folder, I have folders by year (2023, 2024). Then, I run a batch file to generate a batch of folders (usually 500 at a time). Then I put each new design in a numbered folder for the year I created it. This allows me to keep every variation of that design together (20oz tumblers, car coasters, etc). This allows me to create a code to put on each product with a price that includes the product abbreviation and design code (example: 20TM23001 for 20oz tumbler with design year 2023, folder 001). This allows me to track product and design I sell.
Thanks Jennifer. I thought I was quite organized, but I've learned some great new tips from your video. Something that helps me organize personal use vs. commercial use items is to put PU_ or CU_ at the start of a file name. Sometimes designers give permission for a certain quantity and I'll add that after as in CU_up to 500. I do have a few questions. In the example of your cat file, if we create a shortcut for it in the botanical file but later decide to move that cat file to a different folder, does that shortcut update and know to find the file in its new location? Do you keep cut files separately from other design files? I have too many file types that I use for various things...embroidery, Photoshop Elements, cut files, etc., so I've been keeping embroidery, svg, and digital scrapbooking files in their own folders. Lastly, do you have any recommendations for those of us who rely on content from other wonderful designers, on ways to avoid duplicate purchases? If I take your suggestion of renaming all the files, I may not be able to easily determine if I already have a particular file if the webstore does not have a system which informs me that I already purchased that item and my new file name does not include the store or designer info. This is especially difficult on sites like CreativeFabrica and DesignBundles where many files are sold in large bundles. I'd love to hear what works for others.
Thank you for asking. Those are god questions to ask in the group as replies can get lengthy and others can share their results with Creative Fabrica and Design Bundles. facebook.com/groups/sublimationmadeeasy
I'm hoping to learn how to change the svg icons into actual thumbnail pictures. I think I'd be much more apt to use them if I could see them without having to open each one.
I wanted to organize my svgs, but when I go to open them, they open up on the web. Opening on the web instead of on my computer started happening 4 weeks ago. Any idea of what I might have changed on my computer settings and what I need to do to have the svgs open on my computer instead of the web? Thank you so much for all that you are willing to teach us. I had my Cricut for about a year before I started to understand how it worked. I didn't throw out my machine because of your classes.
Windows will often reset your default programs for opening files. Search for Default Programs. There is an option for Select by file type Scroll down to the SVG and change back to your preferred program. I hope this helps!
When you have a bunch of files saved onto a flash drive or a HDD drive can you create a new folder in them and just transfer the files to the folder? Can you also get rid of the eps files?
