Hi Kris, I just found your channel and have been binge watching your videos! I am 69yrs and just finally retired in July. My husband is 71yrs and retired last month. Now after 3 mos retired, I now wish I would have retired so much sooner! Both our jobs were so stressful, I was in medical software sales and that commission “carrot” every month kept me going and hubby in IT. We are both in the middle of purging stuff in our 3000sqft home. It has really opened up our eyes in the amount of STUFF we accumulated over the years. I LOVE the tip you mentioned in this video that before you buy something you ask yourself “if buying this is worth going back to work for”. Wow, I printed that out and placed it on my fridge and have it stuck on my wallet now. We intend to downsize once we are done! Thank you!
Oh, wow! I'm so glad you found that helpful. It can make otherwise difficult decisions so much easier. Congrats on retirement and downsizing. There is something to be said for simplifying and focusing on things that mean the most to you. I appreciate you stopping by (and binging! 😂 ).
It's really a feeling of security, isn't it, when we can stop having to worry about every little thing at the grocery store. I still clip coupons and shop smart, but it's because I want to maximize my dollars, not because I don't have the dollars. Thanks for stopping by!
I can relate to this so much. 🙏🏼❤️Being clear about what your priorities are is SO valuable! Money buys you choices. Time is the only one that truly matters. 🙌🏼🙌🏼❤️❤️🙌🏼🙌🏼✨✨✨
I appreciate your candor, Kris - good video! As I get older, my desire to spend money on things is much less than when I was younger. I'm not very interested in keeping up with the Joneses anymore! I think this naturally happens once people get to middle age and start to truly understand and accept themselves - also most people probably have accumulated things they really wanted already (at least I can say that for myself). I could be wrong, it just seems to be that way with most of my friends and neighbors who are all mid 50s or older.
There is so much power in choosing how to live your life. Not everyone has that luxury in all the different ways, but I think it's so important to be intentional about any choices we do have. Thanks for stopping by.
This is such a good video, Kris. Your storytelling ability is amazing. Hearing you talk about your journey & your insights was so engaging (and absolutely relatable). Thank you for sharing this with us. I’m learning about me by watching you. 💕
absolutely loved this video... im late 40's and I need to start doing this thinking... I have a little with saving for trips away. So not buying stuff for the sake of having stuff. But I can do better ...thanks for making this
So much truth, Kris. Had a similar experience with choosing experiences and connections over stuff when we made the decision to downsize and move closer to family in 2011.
Understanding what your priorities are and what truly brings you happiness is the hack of a lifetime! You recognized it sooner than I did. But it's never too late.
This is so important for me to hear and learn because I’m a handful of years away from retirement. I don’t spend a lot of money on THINGS but there are other areas where I need to scale back. Well delivered talk! ❤
We are on an ACA plan. Because all we have is rental income it's minimal so we qualify for assisted plans. We pay about $350/month for both of us. We are still quite a ways away from being able to use Medicare.
I listen to you carefully. Trying to find out what to say. Let's thanks God we are alive and we will get used. Less is more. (I want to cry. Month is 17th October, 140 euros till the end of month). It's ok. It was not that better with the high salary. We are free. I am comfused .❤
Like I said, it's easy to say money isn't important if you have money. When money is tight, you realize how important it is. I wish you the best. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Oh my goodness, YES with the grocery store! Me too!

Agreed! Our priorities can change so much as we move into midlife and beyond. I want experiences more than things for sure. Thanks for your insights!
What a great museum mindset. Admire nice things without needing to have them!
Oh I didn't think about it that way....the museum mindset. Brilliant.
Love your videos ! ❤
Oh, thank you so much! I appreciate that and thanks for subscribing and watching.
I appreciate this insight...it's something that isn't talked about enough...the realities of living a life of your choosing--which is always worth it!

Totally agree Kris, quality time is so precious. 🎉
It sounds so cliché but it's the absolute truth.

I relate to just about everything you’ve said Kris x
Thanks, Bev!
It's true that changing money habits alone is not enough; there needs to be a mindset shift
Usually with a mindset shift, the habit shift becomes so much easier!

Thank YOU for stopping by and commenting. The sooner you can start thinking about how you relate to money, the sooner you can reach your goals.

Thanks, Jen! It's never too early (or too late) to think about your relationship with money since it can have such a big impact on life decisions.
Great advice Kris
Thanks!
How do you afford health insurance?
I’m about to go on Medicare and I’ll probably need to get a job to pay for it!
