    We're both 60, she's a realtor and does online auctions so can pretty much just make money when it can be made. I'm very ready to retire, even though I love my job but my body is telling me to knock it off with the often physical nature of the work I do. I plan to retire close to age 62 and will take early SS. I figure that if SS does get carved back eventually, I will get as much as I can, as soon as I can. Waiting to FRA, not advisable. We know not our longevities; of our bodies OR social security. The ACA is the plan for us as well. I do not expect it to be eradicated but potentially morphed into a broader Medicare program. As others have noted here, too many people depend on it. The incoming administration is not oblivious to this fact so don't hit the panic button so soon. I would not be surprised if government cost cutting in other bloated, redundant programs would free up $$ for improved healthcare options. It's not all doom and gloom, folks. Give it time.

    I’m in this same space❤ finally. I used to make everything such a pressure and especially getting out greeting cards, I would spend too much money on printing, postage and I also couldn’t “just” mail a card out, I put pressure to write personal notes and it became more of a dread. This is a great reminder video. Keeping it simple as you explained sounds way more appealing.

    I don’t understand how AI will help. I think it is entirely oversold as is every other technology. Maybe I’m wrong on AI, but I don’t think it can take the place of human intelligence. I work for a big company and there are still a lot of humans behind the scene making it work and look good. Secondly people need to quit eating crap like sugar and health care would significantly decrease. I got myself off BP medicine by changing my diet. I now feel better than I did in my 20s.

    • @RobinsonKris
      @RobinsonKris 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      AI won't replace all of human intelligence, but so much of what we do (especially at work) is repetitive, predictable work that will be better and faster done by AI and robots. That will leave us to focus on the tasks that are better suited to humans. For instance, AI can analyze medical scans and detect diseases like cancer or heart conditions earlier and more accurately, giving patients a better chance at recovery. It also helps doctors prioritize urgent cases, improving overall efficiency in treatment. Also, AI-driven learning platforms adapt to individual students’ strengths and weaknesses, providing tailored lessons and practice. This ensures better understanding and engagement, especially for students with learning challenges. This doesn't mean we won't need doctors and teachers, it just means that they will be able to spend their time in more human ways with patients and students.

    Keep in mind that Republican politicians have a very long track record of protecting/promoting the economic interests of the very rich and their corporations to the detriment of everyone else. Republican politicians also have a long track record of being against creating/funding programs that benefit the majority of citizens who are not wealthy. Republican politicians in the 1930s were strongly opposed to the creation of the Social Security program, just like more recently most Republican politicians were opposed to creating/continuing to fund the Affordable Care Act. If you are not rich and you vote for Republican politicians because of their stance on hot button social issues such as abortion, prayers in public school and illegal immigration, NEVER forget you are also voting against your own economic best interests. The very rich have no interest in their Republican-controlled federal government giving you retirement benefits or disability payments or reduced health care costs or providing the children of non-rich parents with a quality education. They are very interested in getting moderate income people to pay all the taxes and getting lucrative government contracts for their corporations and tax dodges for themselves and their corporations. Do not be surprised if a Republican controlled White House and Congress, means many Americans who are now reaching retirement age may not be able to start collecting Social Security benefits during the next four years. And those already collecting Social Security benefits may not get another cost-of-living increase and perhaps may even see a decrease in monthly benefits as long as Republicans control how the federal government funds federal programs. Do not be surprised if the cost of everything you buy also goes up a lot. Tariffs on imported food and other goods are just another form of tax that gets passed onto the consumer. And when U.S. corporations have a near-monopoly on the sale of food and other goods, because of tariffs and other protectionist policies, they WILL raise prices because that boosts their profits. Never expect a Republican government to set price controls, legislate against price-gouging or protect workers' and customers' rights because these would interfere with corporate profits. And the rich own the majority of shares in those corporations. And for Republican politicians, it is all about protecting and growing the wealth of the rich and tricking you into voting against your economic best interests. If you are approaching retirement age, you will be best off if you have zero debt, own outright where you live and what you drive, are in good health and do not need a daily dose of expensive prescription medications, have at least one year of long-term food storage to feed those in your household, have enough savings/investments to help you cope with expected price increases and can live very frugally. You will still need to pay your utility bills and property taxes, no matter how frugally you may live, so make sure you have enough savings to help with this. Especially if you are not allowed to collect Social Security benefits and have to continue to work at least part time in your seventies. With Republican politicians in control of the federal government, they may indeed decide you and others like you will have to wait until age 70 or 75 to be eligible to collect Social Security benefits. They will count upon you forgetting how they have worked against you, when they come up for re-election in another two or four years. They know most voters have short memories and are easily distracted by hot button social issues. If you have not prepared for economic hard times, get started now before it is too late. If you can plant a vegetable garden this spring and grow some of your food (potatoes, beans, winter squash...) and home can or dehydrate the excess to help feed you until the next harvest season, this can provide you some protection against price-gouging by the corporations that own your local supermarket, dollar store and Wal-Mart store.

      There are many different threats to our systems. Wait until we deport all of the caretakers, nurses, doctors, farm workers, gardeners, and laborers. All of those people pay taxes and pay into our systems and keep our day to lives going. You think eggs are expensive now? Wait until we have to pay "legal" workers five times more to do the same jobs, that is IF we can get people to do those back breaking jobs at all. Get ready for $20/lb strawberries. I'm all for fixing our border issues because it isn't working for anyone. I just think it's foolish to blame immigrants for all of our problems. It's just one of many.

    I share your concerns about Social Security. There are two major upcoming changes that would affect SS. One is mass deportation. Immigrants contribute billions in FICA taxes. Mass deportation would cause a huge loss in people contributing to SS. The second plan is to eliminate SS taxes. Bad idea, just like deportation, because it means there would be no current FICA taxes going into the SS coffers. As I understand it, a person receiving SS is made up of about 80% of current workers contributing, and about 20% coming from the SS Trust Fund. Without current workers contributing (not getting it from people deported, and no SS tax being taken from paychecks), economists have indicated that SS would be depleted in 6 years. That’s the year 2030. And that’s a lot sooner than what’s projected if these plans are not implemented (currently around 2034). I also understand that right now, SS recipients are receiving benefits that are based on more being taken from SS than is going into the fund. This is why (without the 2 plans I mentioned), SS would be depleted by 2034. Problem is that there has not been any plans talked about on what to replenish the SS fund with, just plans that take away money from it. Similar to the plan of eliminating Obamacare (the ACA), where they want to eliminate it, but have no plan on what to replace it with, if they actually would. There’s been talk of privatization of SS, but that would mean letting Wall Street handling it instead of the SS administration. That’s a scary thought. And they want to gut Medicare and Medicaid. Medicare is privatized via Medicare Advantage plans, which are run by private insurance companies. They shouldn’t even have Medicare in their name, because they are not Medicare. They are not run by our government. And those plans are horrible because of issues with prior authorization, waiting times, not having your doctor in that plan, etc. And, those plans are constantly changing. Many hospitals and doctors won’t even take an Advantage plan. And then there are plans to gut Medicare and Medicaid. There are millions of people that depend solely on SS for income, and Medicare for healthcare. What happens to them if they lose both? I don’t even like to think of that. Could they end up homeless? And yeah, they have a plan for homeless people. Put them in camps. The whole thing scares me. Sorry for the rant, but I felt I should comment on this subject.

Cashed out 270k from the S&P and invested with a Financial adviser, Monica Mary Strigle and we also bought Solana at the right time. Until around 3 years ago we were 100% in the s&p after over 30 years. I’m retiring at the end of this month at 52, while my wife will retire next year at 50. I took SS benefits at age 62 and full benefits were at 66 yrs and 6 months for me. The whole thing is how long do you think you are going to live? The point (for me) where the amount paid to me starts to become even is at age 82. Taking it later you get more money for fewer years. If you have a history of health issues, it might be better to take them earlier. If I live past 82, financially it might have been a better deal to delay taking benefits. If I die before 82, well, then it was a great decision. The one real unexpected thing was 9% inflation that was higher than my retirement planning.

    Our power was out for nearly 3 days and I was home from work. Even with the power out, I was not bored at all. I'm retiring in a few months. The #1 Retirement Myth that always gets to me is that in retirement, "you'll be on a fixed income." No, I'll still be getting a paycheck; the only difference is, the money will come from Social Security, Pension & Savings. SS & my Pension both have COLAs, and I can choose to withdraw whatever amount I wish from my IRAs and CD accounts, so I won't be considering it a "fixed income."

Practicing vulnerability and letting people help me. Whew.

    New subscriber who is getting close to retirement. If this question is too personal to answer, I understand but what do you owe your cancer diagnosis being caught so early to?

      Thanks for asking. I have always had endometrial issues and ovarian cysts so I was always paying attention to what I was feeling. I felt bloated and "off" and when I felt my abdomen I felt something that felt different. Went to my doctor who believed what I was saying, sent me for an ultrasound and within hours we knew I had a mass about the size of a fist in my abdomen. I got into a GYN oncologist within a few days and after seeing him was on the operating table in less than 24 hours. Radical Hysterectomy and stage 1B Ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is very rarely caught before stage 3. There is no test, no screening for it and the symptoms are symptoms that every woman has off and on. Bloating, indigestion, nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite, digestive issues, feeling full quickly, back pain or...no symptoms at all. Me paying attention to my body, my doctor believing my sense that something was wrong, and both doctors acting quickly lead to my ability to beat it. This Feb I will be officially done with my monitoring process (blood work and exams every 3-6 months) and considered cancer free!

      @@RobinsonKris Thank you so much. My grandmother passed many years ago from it because by the time they found it there was nothing they could do. Your response might help save someone else. So glad you listened to your body!

    Holy smokes! This video is reaching so many people! I absolutely love it. As you know, I watched this last night on the big tv! I love how people are here for your story. It’s such an important and inspiring story. I don’t think it was shallow at all regarding your car. I think it was so brave and so hard and I’m sure I would have had the deep well of emotion as well. I’m so very proud of your continued success here on youtube. I’m glad to be here with you. I’m also glad your cancer was caught soon and I’m in awe at all you have been through, all for a purpose to show us we can do hard things in hard times. Keep going Kris! You are changing peoples perspective by sharing your story!

      I had to get over that voice in my head that said "nobody wants to hear this, why are you doing this?" But I also feel that context matters and I want to be able to point back to it from other videos as I go through more topics in case people want more context. You light me up, Tracie! I REALLY appreciate your encouragement and continued support. I find myself thinking "I wash my videos were more like Tracie's" because I love how artistic and vibey you are. I'll get there....

      @ Kris! You make plenty of artistic videos. Your voice over when you filmed the garden analogy. I won’t forget. You are resonating with many. You shared such a great story in this video. I’m glad you didn’t listen to that inner critic and told your story anyways. I finally had a recent light bulb moment. I dont care anymore about the subs and watch hours. I’m having fun and I love creating and that’s what I’m going to keep doing. Today I filmed a lot and I filmed for ME! I filmed what I like. It may or may not be a voice over. I have not decided until I go to edit. Experimenting is fun. That’s what I’m doing over this way.
