Wes/Dock. Every time I watch one of your videos on X-Men I’m always reminded of why I stopped reading what was my favorite team of heroes growing up. I’m sure by saying that anyone who was born in the mid to late 80s like I was grew up with the X-Men being the premier team. Everything they stood for was wrapped up into the storylines but in a way that made sense to them being heroes. The X-Men I know and love haven’t been around for decades and I haven’t Purchased an X-Men book since I tried to start again in the late 2000s to no avail. I’ll never understand why they continue to not give the fans….what’s made Marvel and the X-Men great since their inception. Long winded …..but the vent was necessary. Im always disappointed with the X-Books these days.
I was thinking about X-Men over the weekend while watching Wednesday on Netflix. The X-Men used to be like that show, every character had their unique and individual voice. I used to get X-Men when Claremont wrote it, Nightcrawler was my favorite character. I knew who their is voice was, or Colossus or any of the characters. I haven’t picked up a new X-Men comic book in years. But, from watching your channel. I can tell todays writers don’t write the characters the way they should be written. They either have their own agenda or write the book the book to fit their narrative. Not only X-Men that’s the way with a lot of books. I don’t recognize a lot of characters anymore. They don’t have the voice in my head I had when I was growing up. Where are the writers like Roy Thomas, Denny O’Neil, Chris Claremont, Ann Nocenti, Louise Simonson etc. It’s hard to find titles I like these days.
My concern is, why aren't these creators trying to hype up their work? No one cares about you, unless you're Chris Claremont/someone established. Fans care about the characters, art, and story. Try to hype that for a change. Nothing that was said in that interview made me want to pick up this book.
Its honestly sad how much damage Marvel and even DC has been doing. There are still some good ones out there but they are scattered and allota stuff is wack!! Personally I have been delving more into the indie comics from Image and Boom amongst some others
@@zemox2534 Yea there are still some Marvel and DC stuff I have on my pull list for example from Marvel I really have been enjoying the new Midnight Suns and Amazing Spiderman but im a sucker for anything Spiderman and DC ive been loving the new Batman series
Exactly it pisses me off so much - some of these villains didn't care. Some were legit just evil and had hatred to indescribable levels for the X-men, now suddenly and magically just toss all of that away? Nah fam, I aint buying it.
The one thing not represented in that office, talent. Second thing, a respect for the source material. Put some wheels on the X-office, it's a clown car. Life support? Pull the plug and await a resurrection.
Here's the thing; those stories he talks about are great stories; not firing in with other 'mutants', disliking the culture and coming to terms with one's identity and place in or outside the community; we've seen great storied about mutants like rogue or beast wanting a 'cure' for example. People can relate to that if it's dealt with in universal terms, and having something personal to say could make great empathy. Good luck to him; if he can actually write, he's going to need it in that office
The only way Hickman x-men, starting with HoX/PoX works, is if there is a magic mind control object. The X-Men breaking bread with mass murderers like Apocalypse and Sinister never worked, even when Hickman himself was writing it. I have been rereading it recently and it reads like an intricate turn based strategy or RPG design with zero regard for the characters involved.
The X-men was a family. Family members always butt heads….Now X-men is an AGENDA and has nothing to do with their core characters. Why does most of Marvel’s art look so feminine? Plain, mushy characters in asexual, binary poses with bright colors……..Yuck.
Does the blame not fall on the editors for not ensuring that the writers keep in line with the essence and nature of a specific character? Why do they keep choosing to change old characters instead of creating new and exciting ones?
The changes are because they all suck at their jobs and think the past is just unwelcome baggage. Meanwhile, writers like Ennis, Moore, Thomas, etc. have mined the past and created stores new readers wanted to read. Now, all we get are stories that only find traction with an ever-shrinking audience.
Because they have absolutely no creativity. It’s the lazy way to get a few people to notice them and then it wears off. Plus, I believe there is seriously some agenda to ruin what use to be fun for guys by a bunch of sorry ass cat ladies.
Good lord! This guy in the interview comes off as a fragile man that loves himself and has no knowledge of writing super hero comics. I had to hold back the urge to cringe as I'm listening to this from work.
i'm starting to think Krakoa was a terrible idea. it's limiting the mutants and their impact, they've self segregated. a friend of mine calls it a cult
Me being a comic books collector for almost 20 years I just realized I’m more of an Indy comic book collector now. I started with marvel and now it’s tough reading through some of that
I still keep my X-Men books on my pull list because my LCS is microscopic and they need the money. I let them build up however and don't read them right away. The excitement is just gone these days. You know what books I do read right away? Several manga. Sonic The Hedgehog. The Amazing Spider-Man Kraven series that features Peter Parker STILL MARRIED TO MJ AND SHE'S STILL PREGNANT! Definitely tomorrow's Spawn and Batman crossover. Though yeah basically letting my X books go until they are renumbered, and by then I'll decide if I want to continue or not.
Marvel comics know what to do, They are just refusing to do it. My biggest concern is what if it becomes too late? The experienced artists and writers are not getting any younger while the current staff really have no idea of what made the X-series work.
Probably one of my favorite X-Men is Bishop. I'm not a time traveling black man. I like Cable. I'm not a cyber soldier. Archangel, because he fell hard. Doug Ramsey, because he felt useless. But as I get older its Cyclops. Wolverine is cool, but Scott is a controlled adult, maybe too distant. Forge is confidence. Thunderbird is angry and arrogant. They are all interesting, because they are written as humans. People can have more than one feeling at a time. I can relate to all those feelings. I can be supremely mad at my SO, but I'm not really mad for long. It passes. Way X-Men are now, it doesn't ring true. Not at all.
Jordan D White really needs to expand his selection criteria beyond hiring a new writer because they're gay. Writing talent and any knowledge of the X-men would be nice too.
I grew up reading comics. My 3 sons and daughter will not read LGBTQ + HD TV garbage. I told the comic book shop that if I cannot look at the books they bring me to buy - then I will buy anything. Comics that bring this stuff up should not be for kids.
One of the biggest issues the comic book industry have other than the publisher not advertising the product they sell and ridiculous prices is they hire writers that have no knowledge of the characters or medium. They have obviously been hiring writers like this for close to a decade maybe longer. It has been blatantly obvious. Characters are written totally out of character Beast for example. They likely hired this Steve because he is likely very cheap or he is someone's friend or relative. Fabian Nicieza, Scott lobdell, Mike Carey or any number of actual comic book writers would be better. Hell it's wanted.
Sometimes I can't understand these interviews. The interviewer asks a question, the answer is some bullshit from the writer's life. The interviewer doesn't realign the subject. They never say, 'that's good to know, thank you for sharing but can you please tell us about this subject of the interview?". Seriously, who is running these interviews?
Marvel died when Hickman's Secret Wars concluded... well it was on life support then with Marvel Now! I miss those Quesada and Bendis days. If I only appreciated those comics more haha
Well, they did it to themselves. So I can’t say I feel too bad. I personally was put off by OMD, Cyclops psychic cheating on Jean Gray, and every Xmen arc after that.
The only escape I have from the corporate hive mind of mediocre entertainment is some manga and old comics and movies with the odd independents thrown in.
People like Steve Foxe need to aknowledge the connection between this more "Diverse hiring" era and the decay of the comicbook history... And no, this will not deminish if they are women or Black or gay... In fact, will lead to a more fair treatment instead of automatic victimization and automatic demonization.
They really need to end all of this Krakoa shit as soon as they can especially with the X-men showing up in the MCU. They just need to come up with some explanation like Krakoa was a plague or virus that controlled the Professor; messed up his mind and forced him to use his powers to manipulate all the mutants on earth. Have Wolverine figure it out what is going on leading to him trying to free the minds of others... do a big blow off then in the aftermath mutants are hated even more for the actions over the last few years. You need something like that because I can't see in a few years another "X-men reboot" where they are magically back in the mansion as if nothing happened going over well.
@@mysticlegion8088 yeah the Hickman series were good and had this feeling of "something isn't right" so I gave it a chance. But once the monthly series came out I just lost interest very quick; maybe 5 months in I was totally done.
These writers are ridiculous and have lost focus. I'm interested in the Marvel Characters like Spider-man, X-Men, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Etc... I'm not interested in the personal preferences, characteristics, or personal History of the writers who put into the Marvel Characters' storylines for emphasis or try to get out their "Queer" story. For me, all of the DC and Marvel franchises have been ruined by these idiotic writers. The LGBTQIAP+ community is 4% to 5% of the population. Why target such an audience? As part of the 95% of the other demographic or majority demographic, I'M NOT INTERESTED IN THIS TYPE OF REPRESENTATION. You're supposed to write good stories regarding these DC and Marvel characters, not make it a platform for your own personal challenges and struggles. It's a lose-lose situation. All I know is, I'm waiting for the writers of The Amazing Spider-man Vol. # 6 to ruin the storyline again, just like in Vol. # 5. It's inevitable. That's going to happen without the queer baiting in that comic. Jeez!
Yeah apparently. Everyone else is healing themselves but not Scott. Probably just a stupid editorial decision, but there's no reason he can't have full control and still use his visor.
The Sinister stuff was hilarious, Ewing's Red is brilliant, it's the nonsensical stuff like Orlando's Marauders (his Apollo stuff was way better) and anything by Tini Howard and Duggan that drag it down. Leah Williams gets unfairly maligned here but her book is legit simple fun, no message, no preaching, just popcorn fun. I have EVERY X-Men book from 1963 to the present. I've read every x title that's ever been printed. This isn't the worst, but its direction less and too many writers are doing self inserts and trying to push new characters that have no arc but are just amazing from the jump because reasons. Too many people here fit the overused definition of toxic fanbase, they don't actually read the books, they take a page and judge and feel the mere existence of a gay or whatever character is a woke agenda when a lot of times it's no different than the team introduced in Giant Size #1 in 1975. It becomes an agenda when people like Howard change history to force it, or when Duggan writes a psychotic radical environmentalist tract. People need to learn the difference
It like the X-Men office has lost it way by making them about gay problems that may or may not exist in America....so it became a self absorbed series where the writer's feelings and emotional state is more important not a series that all outcasts of society could relate with, so now no one can.....
I stopped reading X-men once Bendis moved over to the property and began destroying the franchise wholesale. And that was BEFORE he started going woke. I really can't explain what snapped in his brain because his previous gig on Dark Avengers was one of my all-time favorites.
I gave marvel and dc til December to show me why I’m buying books, I went from spending a $100 a week on books to $40 mid year and now I’ll be dropping to just ASM 3 xbooks tmnt and Batman. I know there are more good books than this but I am not even enjoying being a reader anymore even when it’s good. It’s become a chore to be a comic fan. I’ll read the good stuff when I’m bored on marvel u and save so much $

It’d be nice if your content could have less profanity. I actual want my kids to know what’s wrong with modern comics and why I don’t let them buy them. But I can’t find a decent family friendly comic critic channel. Just one dads opinion. Either way, merry Christmas 😊
So much here, but I'll keep it to this: Why in the F**K would a writer say "you don't have to like her"?! Isn't that saying "I can't write her as a likable character"? If Marvel really wants to shut it's door just shut the doors FFS!
I wish i could find good place online for all the old stuff especially Claremont. Going to watch some old Xmen cartoons. This writer can't answer simple question solely on Firestar without not talking about her and only about himself!
House of x powers of x was good and I read the full dawn of x tp collection. Still working through reign of x tp collection. I'm invested at this point so am going to read it but so far I don't have an issue with it. (So far) it started out with a strong start from Hickman.
I am still in shock they would turn not just the X-Men but all of the 616+ mutants into separatists they make me sick and have finally ended any suspension of disbelief or even character love. Now it's a Di$ney property I personally hope it fails and the sooner it does the sooner the few surviving comic shops will actively start pushing for graphic novel format stories that they can read, love & sell alongside Manga.
The Firestar/Cop thing is cause she was an Avenger. At least that's what I heard. Parts of the X fandom don't like the Avengers especially after the AvX event a while back.
I’m telling you, I am waiting for when the Krakoan “natives”are getting permanently killed off by a much more gritty and grimy version of ROM Space Knight. During this time, the reveal is that all of the “mutants” are actually Wraith (Magic-using Skrulls) or Elder Things if Marvel starts bringing in Lovecraftian characters and full stories (depending upon rights). At least, in the aftermath, a new set of mutant characters could be created and maybe join SWORD and the Skrulls in dealing with the Krakoans and Krakoa, itself. Nope, Marvel is just gonna have milling around dramas and fashion shows. Time to bail, purchase and read new titles that are not Marvel (or DC for that matter).
Feminine types writing comics seemed to turn them into romcoms and self inserts. I find it unreadable. Worse still when they feel the need to constantly lecture with no subtlety
FYI mutant resistant fascist cop is one of the phrases that was spammed around the twitter and the FB groups. There was a sickening amount of that stuff thrown around because Firestar didn't "conform". Which is both ironic and hypocritical since most of the people/groups saying it are heavily LGBTQIA, diversity and inclusion.
Ok, good news and bad news on this Steve guy. Good news is, he's one of the only Marvel writers gay or not that says forcing unwanted agendas onto readers is a terrible idea. The bad news is that he knows next to nothing about the characters he writes
Everyone remembers when X-Men was one Marvel’s best sellers because of how well written and able to appeal to everyone regardless of race and sexuality? Yeah,Good times!
🙄Holy.......What Coffee shop did Marvel walk into to find these writers?!? Or did they just raid the fanfic blogs?! Marvel really just needs to take the whole Krakoa thing and make it some alternate universe, ala Ultimate. I wonder if they are doing these things because the real writers dont want to touch these characters anymore or dont want to write them the way that the editors want them too.

Manga and alternatives for me and the occasional back issue from time to time.
@@zemox2534 Yea there are still some Marvel and DC stuff I have on my pull list for example from Marvel I really have been enjoying the new Midnight Suns and Amazing Spiderman but im a sucker for anything Spiderman and DC ive been loving the new Batman series
@@zemox2534 Daredevil and Punisher from Marvel are the 2 best series at Marvel right now
To be honest comic books have potrayed female characters as an assholes overhyped
@@Hydrus96 Punisher is terrible.Jason Aaron ruined the character in every sense.
Exactly it pisses me off so much - some of these villains didn't care. Some were legit just evil and had hatred to indescribable levels for the X-men, now suddenly and magically just toss all of that away? Nah fam, I aint buying it.
I left when Claremont left .
Clearly this guy wasn't hired based on his writing talent.
Has anyone seen the new Jurassic Park, where the dinosaurs are making friends with their food at the end, bahahahaha, this is craked coa
Did that happen in the movie?
@@msmaria5039 yes, at least in the extended version. It was so funny i was laughing for 10 minutes after. This is MST3k worthy
That's Hickman in general imo. Except for his Fantastic Four run which had pretty great characterizations
@@TheNickcone I didn't like Reed or Doom in his run, they were off.
Hickman just care about your concepts. The characterization of the heroes are bad.
Exactly! It is well past time to admit that Hickman’s vision was wrong to start. It was a decent “What If”.
The X-men was a family. Family members always butt heads….Now X-men is an AGENDA and has nothing to do with their core characters. Why does most of Marvel’s art look so feminine? Plain, mushy characters in asexual, binary poses with bright colors……..Yuck.
Villains trying to be good. That's so original 20 years ago
No one likes or respects bullies, not even the ones that hide behind fake alphabet cred.
Without X-Men Red I’d have no reason to touch those books.
i'm starting to think Krakoa was a terrible idea. it's limiting the mutants and their impact, they've self segregated. a friend of mine calls it a cult
I've been hearing about how Marvel and DC are life support for five years, yet....here they are.
The more I hear about this, the more depressed I get about seeing my X-Men return as an adventure book.
Me being a comic books collector for almost 20 years I just realized I’m more of an Indy comic book collector now. I started with marvel and now it’s tough reading through some of that
WES you should cover the NPD book scans this year... it kind of shows how bad mainstream comics are doing
And it also shows how well manga is doing
Manga and Indies folks you'll feel better
Welcome to the club every Community has odd ones out. Plenty in the past and future and it doesn't make you special.
In Immortal X-Men #9, Sinister states that 616 Beast is worse than Dark Beast. It’s so f--d up on the X-Office’s part.
I'm looking forward to see the financial downfall of MARVEL
I doubt it. Marvel is tied to Disney.
Marvel comics know what to do, They are just refusing to do it. My biggest concern is what if it becomes too late? The experienced artists and writers are not getting any younger while the current staff really have no idea of what made the X-series work.
Get Jim Shooter in there before it’s too late!
That first answer lmao. No wonder he posed in front of all those skeletons, kids trying to tell us he's braindead.
I hate what Marvel has done to their IPs'... Smh.
I'm so bored of the xmen and writers who have little or no understanding of the characters there writing about 🙄
Probably one of my favorite X-Men is Bishop. Not at all.
Random: That Spiderman and his AMAZING friends cartoon with Fire Star was my SHIT back in the day. The MUSIC was TITE AF TOO.
I actually love how some of the x men books are currently doing it's good to take chances I
The only escape I have from the corporate hive mind of mediocre entertainment is some manga and old comics and movies with the odd independents thrown in.
That Krakoa crap was always bs from the beginning.
@@mysticlegion8088 yeah the Hickman series were good and had this feeling of "something isn't right" so I gave it a chance. But once the monthly series came out I just lost interest very quick; maybe 5 months in I was totally done.
Adventures in poor taste is the gift that keeps on giving lmao
Jeez!
Excited Dc got danger street coming out
I have completely cut X-Titles out if my pull lists. They lost all the momentum brought from House & Powers.
DOK @ 7:55. 100 percent facts.
So wait, Cyclop made a choice not to fix his optic blast?
😂 x-office infiltrated by the alphabet army… good one
I 'm just waiting for Fall of X.Krakoa Era must end for good.Make The X-Men be heroes again.
Fall of X will be nothing, I would bet money Krakoa still stands at the end of it.
@@jbbrolic I hope not.Krakoa will fall and the timeline will restart again.
I really can't explain what snapped in his brain because his previous gig on Dark Avengers was one of my all-time favorites.
to be honest it would probably for the legacy of comic books if they just stopped making a lot of the shite, and focused on just a few quality titles
Yes, except that the current Marvel management would cut the quality stuff and keep the shite, under the firm belief that that is the quality stuff.
I really need to see how much I can get off the original price before I throw that into a bonfire anything under Jordan no D white is poison.
I ❤ Krakoa era !!!
I will never go back to the musty mansion
12 days til' Christmas
I gave marvel and dc til December to show me why I’m buying books, I went from spending a $100 a week on books to $40 mid year and now I’ll be dropping to just ASM 3 xbooks tmnt and Batman. I know there are more good books than this but I am not even enjoying being a reader anymore even when it’s good. It’s become a chore to be a comic fan. I’ll read the good stuff when I’m bored on marvel u and save so much $
Yo! I really like your content. I’m a busy dad and I have to listen while working around the house. The problem is I can’t listen with kids around. It’d be nice if your content could have less profanity. I actual want my kids to know what’s wrong with modern comics and why I don’t let them buy them. But I can’t find a decent family friendly comic critic channel. Just one dads opinion. Either way, merry Christmas 😊
I tuned out at "J*sus F*cking Chr*st" just so you know.
Steve Foxe reminds me of Daniel Kibblesmith. He is very similar to him.
Do a video about spawn / barman . It was terrible writing. I guess it going to be more than a one shot, but I don't think I will buy #2 .
Good to know, i almost read it. The new Wildcats is not very good either
Well it was written by Todd McFarlane, so...
I left x-men decades ago. I'll stick to X- books like "x-men: Legends ".
The Firestar/Cop thing is cause she was an Avenger.
At least that's what I heard.
Parts of the X fandom don't like the Avengers especially after the AvX event a while back.
The guy who in the interview, Steve Fox talks about himself being alphabet, nobody cares, what does that have to do with comics?
Facts
It's just fanfiction now. No one is acting right, nothing matters.
If you apply his logic to Storm, it's flat out racist. "Storm, don't ever mention being Kenyan again. Conform!"
So translation cause and effect
The only thing I will remember about Steve Foxe is that I should avoid his books at all cost.
I love wolverine current run.
Wow! I actually love when Marvel does this. Burn it to the Ground!
So are you like the quartering but for comics?
