  • In THR's annual roundtable, six top awards season filmmakers - Peter Chernin, Eric Fellner, John Lesher (Birdman), Marc Platt (Into the Woods), Cathleen Sutherland (Boyhood) and Emma Thomas (Interstellar) - open up about which one of them caught David O. Russell sleeping in their bed, being married to one of the greatest directors in Hollywood and the problem with the TV industry being overcrowded.

These "behind the scenes" things are actually better than the "look it's famous people!" things.

I watched the composers interview and the guy didn't interrupt them at all during the entire video. I knew it was rare and I was proved right within the first 4 minutes lol!

Really enjoyed this roundtable, demystifies what a producer actually does and it's so hard to understand how the film business works from the outside so thank you!

Great job with these annual roundtables. They are really insightful in terms of the process of making films before they make it to the cinema and they really give aspiring film makers an idea of the whole process. If it is not any trouble and, as a suggestion for a possibly new roundtable, it would be interesting to see a screenwriter roundtable. I say this, being an aspiring screenwriter, so you can obviously see the bias. Anyways, great job!

Some of these discussions aren't about producing a film though. Peter Chernin mentioned Titanic at the beginning but he didn't produce it. James Cameron and Jon Landau produced it. Then when Marc Platt speaks he talks about his time at TriStar when he was an executive

    Great as per usual, THR.
Would have been great to put Chernin on the spot and ask him about the whitewashing of Exodus.

ok smart guy, who would you cast ?

    • @ajrossjr
      @ajrossjr 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      BRAD PITT
I would cast Jeffrey Wright as Moses. Vin Diesel as Ramses, or Idris Elba as Ramses. Halle Berry as Neretiri. Angela Bassett as Tuya. Denzel Washington as Seti.
There are actors who can pull this off.

      Albert Ross Jr.
      boiler room diesel
      angels in america wright
      the wire idris
      halle monsters ball
angela whats love gotta do with it
      denzel flight
all fine actors but not huge stars
it takes stars to finance a blockbuster

I really look forward to these roundtables but maaaannnnnn I instantly get bummed out when I see that THIS guy is the host. He always interrupts in the middle of someone explaining something...I mean GOD DAMN !!! You're surrounded by talent....just be quiet and soak it all in.

+Mr. Porter I really think he does this to make sure no guest gets too carried away with their own personal stories.

Iguana Mad Oh trust me...I know that, but it's dumb in my opinion. If you have a room full of talented veteran actors and they want to share a story that's somewhat off topic it seems rude to just cut them off and change the subject. Example...
Actor: It's funny you bring that up because when I was doing theater with Mel Gibson, Marlon Brando, and... (gets cut off)
Douchebag: Ryan, what did you find most challenging while doing this film?
Happens every damn time. Check out a roundtable without him and see if you notice how much better they seem to flow. The host let's the actors speak and then they transition to another subject AFTER they'll done.

Mr. Porter You make a good point, I will look into the other roundtables. Even though the host seems like a tool, he asks quick small questions to ignite the speaker so they talk about things they normally wouldn't. Interrupting is indeed very rude, especially in the manner that he does. However, I also think there is some montage tweaking going on here that might make the conversation seem this way. Would be interesting if they released uncut versions of these roundtables.

Iguana Mad I know...but he kinda ruins the experience when he cuts actors off in the middle of their story. That's my only complaint with him. The roundtable with Michael Keaton, Ethan Hawke, and a list of other actors. He did that a few times throughout and Michael Keaton made a little joke about it.
