Being born in India, i always used to believe that for being an academe, or more precisely, a great scientist, one has to be an ascetic and stay away from alcohol and sex. Dr A P J abdul kalam used to be our ideal scientist. Then, i encountered Feynman and learnt about Einstein, the man and their respective very colourful lives. Thankfully, this delusion of inverse relation of thirst for knowledge and giving into the pleasures of flesh was broken.

Yes, SCIENCE and any RELIGION are two different branches of knowledge. SCIENCE is based upon facts,which are determined by observation and experiments. On the other hand, RELIGION and SPIRITUALITY are based upon faiths. So these 2 branches are quite different. Spirtuality is human need. SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY have been advanced in the last 300 years. SCIENCE &TECHNOLOGY is must in this day and age.

There is no need to deviate. I beg to differ. Imam Al Gazzali was right. All the knowledge is in the Qur'an. Science is the handmaiden of the Qur'an. If one has read the Qur'an, he has read all. There is no need to go further. The ummah must devote itself to the Qur'an and follow the path of the Rasul. Rest everything will fall in place. Every Muslim must endeavour to live a life as it was in the time of the Prophet.

Mautazilla were of the belief that Quran is a creation and not the word of Allah. Moreover, they had the belief that Allah does not possess existence. He does not see, hear, or listen. They were of the view that Quran has been created by Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) which would if accepted as a belief would prove that Quran is only the teachings based on personal theories and intuition of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) and not divine word of Allah. They even corrupted the minds of Khalifas Mamun ur Rashid, Motasim Billah and his son Wasiq Billah, who enforced and killed a lot of religious scholars for not accepting the belief as given by Mautazillas. Even, Imam Ahmed Hanbal (R.A) was tortured by lashes and imprisoned to accept the belief. If that belief would have been accepted that Quran is only creation and not the word of Allah as He cannot Kalam (speak) that would mean that Islam is also a man-made and not divine religion of Allah. Mautazillah were also trying to prove this through rationale because they also did not believe in Maujezaat. A human mind is not capable of understanding these maujezaat. All knowledge is hidden from man kind. If everything would be evident, then everyone would have accepted the religion of Islam. It is all about doubtless belief in the sayings of Allah and His Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم.

Despite this, Astrology is even to this day a thriving industry valued at $13Billion over a year! Whilst Religious industry is valued at $1trillion, Astronomy is just around $400billion! There was a time when many Muslims used to believe that the Quran contains all knowledge. The Muslim invaders used to destroy Hindu temples and idols. They used to destroy the books also because of their belief that the Quran contains all knowlwdge hence no other books are needed. These Pakistanis forget that their ancesters were mainly either Hindus or Buddhists. Some of them may have a little Arab, Turk or Persian ancestry due to Muslim invaders. Still they feel proud that their ancesters were defeated by the invaders forcibly converted to Islam. Now they totally identify with the invaders and have hostile feelings for India. It appears that Pakistan and India woll bever live in friendship with each. This is not good for Pskistan or India. other.

Islam and the teachings of Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W) promote the gain and spread of knowledge. Islam does not forbid the man kind from gaining the knowledge of science. The under-development or backwardness of Muslims in Science is not due to the reason that Islam has restricted so; but it is due to the lack of finances with the muslim countries, lack of peace and security, lack of qualified teachers and mentors due to brain drain, lack of jobs and development opportunities due to lack of industries, access of better schools and universities to the only rich and high class society, and corrupt rulers and politicians throned and settled by the CIA under American Hegemony and Imperialism of the European countries in the Muslim World. If an Islamic Democratic System according to the ideals of Imam Shah Waliullah is implemented, you will see luminaries and scientists like Ibn Sina, Ibn Haisham and Al-Kindi again in the muslim world. All you need is social and economic justice on the parameters of Islam and you will see the rising Muslim scientists again.

I only say this because we are all (india /Pakistan / Bangladesh / Afghanistan ) a part of the same heritage - we share ancestry. That could be controversial. Much of the Hindu claims of grandeur and of 'ancient science' are fake. If you search through Indian history closely, the current beliefs of an average would fall apart. Examples- the origin of the god Rama, oldest Sanskrit manuscript, Indian cuisine. Indian civilization is a lost one and Hinduism in its current form is just 200~ years old.

As you are aware that previous divine books were altered by the religious scholars for their capitalist gains, so did the Bible, for very reason the Quran and the religion of Islam was descended upon the human kind through Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W). It was the theory of Aristotle that the earth is in centre of universe and that all other planets including Sun revolves around it. Aristotle was considered an authority in every field of sciences for hundreds of years and that was the reason when the priests of Christianity altered the Bible, they also mentioned the geocentric theory of Aristotle in it which was also adopted by Muslim Scholar Ibn Rushed, owing which, the religion of Islam or Quran was or has also been attacked by philosophes like Voltaire, Syed Ahmed Khan and currently Pervez Hoodbuoy. However, there is no mention of geocentric theory in Quran, it was only the views of Ibn Rushd, who was not a saint of God but only human who must be wrong. If there is incorrection in the theory of Ibn Rushd that does not mean that Quran is incorrect (نعوذ باللہ). When the Copernicus gave the heliocentric theory and later proved by Galileo, the French Philosophes such as Voltaire and David Hume who were already athiest or diest started attacking their religion i.e. Christianity. Voltaire also attacked Islam for only the personal belief of Ibn Rushd. Quran is the pure word of Allah and the scientist and scholars have failed to find any single mistake in it. If they had, you would not have experienced the conversion of christians to Islam at a greater pace.

Best question was science can teach us to make a destructive weapon but religion with emphasis on morality can stop its use and convert the destructive force into a more tangible constructive post for betterment of all humanity.
I have been a fan of Prof. Hood bhai... but when he says Hum Musalmano ne ye kiya ya nahi kiya...My point is how can you relate to things which were not yours or you had nothing to do with it? The events you are talking about say 75%-80% of them happened when your ancestors were either Hindu's/Buddhists/ Jain's. In majority of western parts of the Indian subcontinent were converted to Islam not more than 300-400 years back. Well the first step towards science is to accept and acknowledge the facts.

You can clearly see he has personal grudges when it comes to telling the whole background of before Islam came into this world, and its affect on society. It tells people to believe silly stuff like flying horses, flying monkeys, jinns, circling a rock, that muhammed split the moon and put it back, that hanuman lifted a mountain, that evolution is wrong and 2 adult humans popped into existence. Being born in India, i always used to believe that for being an academe, or more precisely, a great scientist, one has to be an ascetic and stay away from alcohol and sex. Dr A P J abdul kalam used to be our ideal scientist. Then, i encountered Feynman and learnt about Einstein, the man and their respective very colourful lives. Thankfully, this delusion of inverse relation of thirst for knowledge and giving into the pleasures of flesh was broken.

Mautazilla were of the belief that Quran is a creation and not the word of Allah. Moreover, they had the belief that Allah does not possess existence. He does not see, hear, or listen. They were of the view that Quran has been created by Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) which would if accepted as a belief would prove that Quran is only the teachings based on personal theories and intuition of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) and not divine word of Allah. They even corrupted the minds of Khalifas Mamun ur Rashid, Motasim Billah and his son Wasiq Billah, who enforced and killed a lot of religious scholars for not accepting the belief as given by Mautazillas. Even, Imam Ahmed Hanbal (R.A) was tortured by lashes and imprisoned to accept the belief. If that belief would have been accepted that Quran is only creation and not the word of Allah as He cannot Kalam (speak) that would mean that Islam is also a man-made and not divine religion of Allah. Mautazillah were also trying to prove this through rationale because they also did not believe in Maujezaat. A human mind is not capable of understanding these maujezaat. All knowledge is hidden from man kind. If everything would be evident, then everyone would have accepted the religion of Islam. It is all about doubtless belief in the sayings of Allah and His Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم.

Islam is static. You are right. It is a complete religion and sufficient for all man kind till the day of judgment. Dynamism is required where improvement is needed like reformation was required for that impure adulterated religion.
A disagreement with Dr sahab, Quran never claimed a book of science, its book of SIGNS which is the starting point of science . And in Signs there is a Science and Allah said in so many place in Quran i.e “v open our AYATS to every one but they never focused and they never pay attention and they never observe” . For example TODAY v called Moon as a Moon, who told us the Moon is Moon, Science, No, Science verified it, its a Moon. And on the same time science verified holy scriptures as well. There is more then 6000 Signs in Quran , which science need to verify.

God delusion was a book that made me into a stronger muslim as i saw/faced what these people were saying thats causing so much controversy,

Dr. Hoodbhoy explains well and has very good understanding. His knowlegde is wasted on the negative minded majority of Pakistan. A few khaliphs of Islam encouraged knolwledge but later they closed their minds against science.

And here Dr Hoodbey is telling us what science have nothing to do with the existence of God, or ultimate reality.

There was a time when many Muslims used to believe that the Quran contains all knowledge. The Muslim invaders used to destroy Hindu temples and idols. They used to destroy the books also because of their belief that the Quran contains all knowlwdge hence no other books are needed.
These Pakistanis forget that their ancesters were mainly either Hindus or Buddhists. Some of them may have a little Arab, Turk or Persian ancestry due to Muslim invaders. Still they feel proud that their ancesters were defeated by the invaders forcibly converted to Islam. Now they totally identify with the invaders and have hostile feelings for India. It appears that Pakistan and India woll bever live in friendship with each. This is not good for Pskistan or India. other.

Islam and the teachings of Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W) promote the gain and spread of knowledge. Islam does not forbid the man kind from gaining the knowledge of science. The under-development or backwardness of Muslims in Science is not due to the reason that Islam has restricted so; but it is due to the lack of finances with the muslim countries, lack of peace and security, lack of qualified teachers and mentors due to brain drain, lack of jobs and development opportunities due to lack of industries, access of better schools and universities to the only rich and high class society, and corrupt rulers and politicians throned and settled by the CIA under American Hegemony and Imperialism of the European countries in the Muslim World. If an Islamic Democratic System according to the ideals of Imam Shah Waliullah is implemented, you will see luminaries and scientists like Ibn Sina, Ibn Haisham and Al-Kindi again in the muslim world. All you need is social and economic justice on the parameters of Islam and you will see the rising Muslim scientists again.

I have only one question for you - are you planning on doing a series on the science & discoveries of ancient India & Indian texts ?
I only say this because we are all (india /Pakistan / Bangladesh / Afghanistan ) a part of the same heritage - we share ancestry.
Would it make sense to acquaint the Pakistani students about their heritage ?
That could be controversial. Much of the Hindu claims of grandeur and of 'ancient science' are fake. If you search through Indian history closely, the current beliefs of an average would fall apart. Examples- the origin of the god Rama, oldest Sanskrit manuscript, Indian cuisine. Indian civilization is a lost one and Hinduism in its current form is just 200~ years old.
Stop! Don't count Afghanistan or pushtoons in your heritage. Punjabis, sindhis and indians are same. Pushtoons are totally defferent genetic people far far away from indians and punjabis

As you are aware that previous divine books were altered by the religious scholars for their capitalist gains, so did the Bible, for very reason the Quran and the religion of Islam was descended upon the human kind through Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W). It was the theory of Aristotle that the earth is in centre of universe and that all other planets including Sun revolves around it. Aristotle was considered an authority in every field of sciences for hundreds of years and that was the reason when the priests of Christianity altered the Bible, they also mentioned the geocentric theory of Aristotle in it which was also adopted by Muslim Scholar Ibn Rushed, owing which, the religion of Islam or Quran was or has also been attacked by philosophes like Voltaire, Syed Ahmed Khan and currently Pervez Hoodbuoy. However, there is no mention of geocentric theory in Quran, it was only the views of Ibn Rushd, who was not a saint of God but only human who must be wrong. If there is incorrection in the theory of Ibn Rushd that does not mean that Quran is incorrect (نعوذ باللہ). When the Copernicus gave the heliocentric theory and later proved by Galileo, the French Philosophes such as Voltaire and David Hume who were already athiest or diest started attacking their religion i.e. Christianity. Voltaire also attacked Islam for only the personal belief of Ibn Rushd. Quran is the pure word of Allah and the scientist and scholars have failed to find any single mistake in it. If they had, you would not have experienced the conversion of christians to Islam at a greater pace.

The events you are talking about say 75%-80% of them happened when your ancestors were either Hindu's/Buddhists/ Jain's. In majority of western parts of the Indian subcontinent were converted to Islam not more than 300-400 years back.

I spent two hours to listen to entire episode but was extremely disappointed that not even one question from the audience was intellectual. It seems the people asked the questions only to show their participation and relevance but not to express any opinion or gain any knowledge.

When they learned that in the current modern time their religion is getting weak in terms of logic and cannot be defended so they started to compare it with science.
There should be a separate Lecture on the "Existence of God", If God exists What could be the most Rational speculation or final analysis on science or philosophy basis. and how it contradict with religions.
