  • Hey guys, this is a great little video that shows some simple ways to troll your lures or spoons so you can can more and bigger fish. Join Derrek and I up @ Plummer's Lodges on Great Bear Lake as we talk you through the basics of trolling big spoons. Note: There are typos in this video. the #5 Snap is rated @ 165 not 250. as well as the barrel swivel. Just want to see if anyone really reads what I put up the the screen.

    Wow just seeing this out of the box th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

    You will be happy to know that I used your video as an educational lesson for my 6th grade grandson, who is an avid fisherman. What he found especially interesting was the part about what happens when you change the direction of the boat to make the spoon appear to be almost alive. Thanks for helping us understand how to troll spoons for lake trout.

    I use the same technique on much smaller Ontario cottage country lake trout. The stop and go/drop and zig zag are good with spoons. Suspending minnow baits are also good on the stop.

    I know I’m a little late on this video but you guys should try fluorocarbon leader, it has no stretch like mono but when I started using fluorocarbon leaders the difference for me was night and day

      Thanks buddy, we have been trying both and this year I did a lot of underwater filing for fish strikes. Man those LAKERS can track for a long time. Going back and forth between lines I did now see a lot of difference on this trip with line choice but let me tell you something.....The death flutter with the spoon superseded line choice ;) Thanks so much for watching.

    the real lesson here is fish chase injured fish first. fluttering down like that triggers the bite instinct, one of natures ways of cleaning out sick baitfish. nice video

    I like your setup and what you did with the spoon and Barrel Swivel split rings and hook but I worry you get a lot of fouled hooks or Miss a lot of fish because the Hook is so far back from the spoon.

    • @thebbztv
      @thebbztv  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      G Gg Had very little problem with that. The system works very well on the troll. That being said. I would Rig it differently if I was throwing the spoon.

    Not sure if you addressed this earlier in the video but why didn't you use a treble hook on the spoon?

    • @zzz7zzz9
      @zzz7zzz9 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      trebles just increased the chance of injuring the fish. with catch and release, a single, barbless only makes sense. there's no need for a treble to catch a fish.

      Depending on weather and water clarity. Wind and stained water we caught them 20 yards behind the boat. In clearer water I drop back further. Thanks for watching

    I've used spoons before with the snap ring from the spoon body, to the swivel to the hook before, but never added the second snap ring between the swivel and the hook. Have you used both styles and found the 2nd snap ring helps?

    • @thebbztv
      @thebbztv  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have tried them all. This is the best system I can figure out for trolling and then letting the spoons flat fall. The system is killer.

      @@thebbztv Thanks! I think I'll convert a few of my spoons over to this style

  • @jacobzirkle9153
    @jacobzirkle9153 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you keep letting line out every time you come of the motor. Seems like you could set them out 60-100 ft and troll then pop in neutral for the drop then reengage

    • @thebbztv
      @thebbztv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a little more to that. The stop and drop has a more vertical drop with the spoon and if you just let a lot of line out the friction of 100 ft of line in the water will not let the bait fall. It will do more of a swing back towards the boat. There is a lot in these video and great catch. Thanks for watching.

    nice technique , what depths is this ideal for?

    • @thebbztv
      @thebbztv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For Lake Trout, I have done this from 10' to 100' just the deeper I go, the slow and longer I have to wait for it to fall in the water column.

      All spoons can work for trout, what I love about these guys is that they prove that many applications can work. I will try this rig for trolling with a downrigger, I'm not sure I will employ the push-pull technique shown in this video. The Daredevle Spoon(husky Devle) shown here are great for large trout, I have a traditional red/white example that I will try soon. Thanks BBZTV! You guys are great, subscribed!
