I got blown up in combat ( lucky no real physical damage ) but I suffer from concussive blast injury, which means I can't remember things well, and find it hard to learn new things, having your video has been a great help to me, and others like me. I have watched it several times, and if I get confused I just watch again, I can now tie anything for my fishing time. Thankyou.
Thanks for your service! I screen record them or download the videos to my phone so when fishing without service you can refer back to all the knots you may need to use.
Indeed, it's the only knot I use for fishing, and is handy for a lot of other situations. Learned it when I was a kid back in the 70's from a pamphlet on knots.
Same here . Has been more than 50 years now and I can tie it quickly and very few failures. Last year I caught a 30 lb catfish on 8 lb test while crappie fishing. That not held and I don’t think I need to learn another
I remember having a book as a child with marine knots. Nothing but an entire encyclopedia of all the possible rope patterns, and it was mind-boggling how someone could come up with all these things. Looking a headphone cable in my pocket I'd joke that they must've invented half the knots by accident.
Excellent video tutorial on tying the Uni knot. Best tutorial on tying this knot that I have ever seen! Didn’t realize this knot could be used for 95 percent of fishing situations. Just awesome!
I’ve watched several different videos on this subject. Yours is the best and most helpful as far as being able to see how the knot is formed. Thank you. Excellent work.
This is an excellent video presentation by a professional person. Black background, coloured lines, and clear audio. Congratulations! I keep viewing this video time and time again, it's so good.
I learned this knot from a famous manufacturer and Tuna fisherman, Dennis Braid on a nine day Excel Tuna trip out of San Diego some years ago. I haven't used many other knots for 95% of my fishing needs. He said at the time "El come over here and I'll show you a great knot that even the biggest Tuna won't break". And he was right. I use it for everything, therefore I thought it was called the"Braid Knot" named after him. A great knot.
The best thing about this knot is you can tie it in the dark it's so easy, I'm rubbish at remembering knots so now this is all I use except for tying shock leader as I think the blood knot makes a smaller join.
Uni knot and Palomar are must knows. Palomar whenever you can and Uni for everything else. Great video. Explained and demonstrated this knot perfectly. 👍
Really great abrasion resistance and though I've never put the Big Game line th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQ4x31pJVpClzhxzNFeILZYTW7Xbs7ZIF (any poundage) through an official test it always seems to break well above rated poundage. This line stretches a very good amount before it breaks and does well in saltwater too. Not the best line for a spinning reel in my opinion, especially if you're planning on using it for lures only due to it having a bit of memory but still a great line whether filling a spool, using as top shot or strictly for leader line. I've bought a bunch of Big game line in the past and plan on continuing to do so in the future.
This is the knot that my grandpa showed me about 65 years ago.and I’ve never had it give. I’ve caught brim, redfish, shark, bass, and jacks (42lb) .. this was the best explanation I’ve ever heard! Thanks
Top top video. Crystal clear. Thanks. Think we call this a grinner knot in UK but this is perfect. Love the way you have done a hook, back to back and loop all in same video! Class
It's a great knot, and simple to tie. I'm also using a Palomar knot, just as easy to tie and is stronger, just not as versatile. Mostly I use a swivel or snap swivel for connecting 2 lines or for quickly changing lures. So for me the Palomar knot works best. I do use the Uni when fly fishing though, makes short work on changing flies or tying a new leader to your main
I agree. I use the Uni and Palomar. I like the Palomar for my lures and an easy drop shot set up. I'll use the uni to snell my circle hooks. Two knots to rule them all. 😆
Learned this knot from Texas fisherman Virgil Ward. That was back in 1970. Great knot, fast put to use when they are on! Great vlog, thanks for sharing ad teaching.
You have single-handidly restored my hope that maybe I can fish one day. The reason I quit was because I was spending all of my time trying to tie stupid, complex knots and my hook wasn't in the water. Thank you!
Maybe the best UNI video on the TUBE. Just remember to wet your line when you cinch them up. Especially with flouro and braid. The knot will cinch up tighter and no burns or abrasions. Personally I use saliva, preferably my own:)
Had I known it was that simple it would have saved me frustration as a teenager... Instead I gave up and took up spear fishing instead. Best change of hobby ever!
I remember my Dad taught me how to tie my first clinch knot. I still use them on my swivels with no problem, I use the simple Snell on my hooks. I will add this one. I think those 3 are all you need. I haven't lost any Wipers with those 2, but I like this one as well. 8-10 pounders are common and they fight like nothing else around here. Thanks for the video.
I have been using the uniknot for about 15 years fish for big red snapper , grouper , redfish ,bass this my go to knot for leaders , swivels and hooks. Caught hundreds of giant fish excellent knot easy to tie. I have more confidence in this knot than any other.
The best knot ever ! I even tried tying 2 very different diameter fishing lines. They really become one. So strong, unbelievable! It's worth watching the demonstrated video again and again, which I did. And I think it's well worth while. This kind of knot would be very useful in our everyday life, not only fishing. Thank you!!
Ive always tied the uni but yesterday I was fishing and lost 3 lures when I back lashed stopping the baits suddenly in the air breaking the uni. If someone could help me? I do wet the line before I cinch the knot.
Great knot been around for years. It's featured prominently in Vic Dunaway's book the Complete Book of Baits, Rigs and Tackle. This book is a must for any angler.
Very well presented. A very useful knot for fly fishing for adding droppers. On the reel side once finished tie a half hitch you now have dropper. Thanks for posting.
never forget learning this knot back in the 80s, after i got so good that i could tie it in the dark in about 15 to 20 seconds i started teaching it to anyone that was interested. I have people come back and thank me many years later.
My grandpa didn't teach me any decent line to line nots before he lost his mind due to cancer complications... he has now passed. Thanks for this video,I think he will be proud of me now, proper self sufficient fisherman :)
I am in Islamorada now and just used this vid to go from 12 to 30lb mono for the cudas under the Cheeca dock, very easy and I am ready to roll! Thanks guys!

I'm glad I came across your video, finally a knot I can use and teach my Grandson. I was raised old school to use swivels and I really wanted to get away from them.Thank you so much
I just wanted to thank you for this video. I love to fish but I have a lot to learn. never had anyone to show me how to tie a proper fishing knot before. very helpful end easy. thank you for taking the time to do this!!
Having just watched this excellent tutorial I experimented with 2 uni knot loops as a loop to loop connection and when I pulled it up tight it formed a sort of spring/shock absorber I am not sure how strong this is but it was also lower in profile, but the connection was longer than the uni to uni connection so if equal in strength to the uni to uni knot this could pass through the guides even easier. Thanks for posting this tutorial the instruction was very well presented and easy to follow.
When you tied the knot and left the gap (loop) by the hook, the bait will swim better for sure, but if you slide the knot all the way to the hook and tighten it... isn't that uni the strongest possible you can have? Thanks. Excellent video!
Wait a minute. I know this knot as the Duncan Loop, and it is indeed the knot I use for pretty much everything. However, I hadn't considered using it as the anchor knot to the reel. NICE!! And now I see just how easy it is to tie a uni-to-uni ... just bought some fluoro today to try out using it as a leader. Never done it before. Leader for both mono and braid. Seems way easier than either the blood knot or surgeon's knot. Cool beans. :D
Thanks for posting... I am curious if you do 4 or 5 loops when attaching to the reel? It seems that you could get away with one or two to reduce the size of the knot.
The size of the knot is not going to be much different nor will it affect the rest of the line. I want the strongest knot I can get there, so if a fish takes everything, I may still have a chance.
Thanks for your very informative video about this knot, and all the situations that it covers. I want to teach two of my great grandchildren how to fly fish this summer, but I want them to learn how to set up, and change flies and rods, and such, by themselves. The time that you took to make this presentation is priceless to me.....we'll just have to practice. Thank you again.
+Marco Montana Yeah! Palomar is the real name. Look it up. Maybe your daddy only had one (nut) and when he was pointing at the nut, you thought he was pointing at the knot? "This is a uni nut son ....."
The knot I tie 95% of the time is a 6 wrap San Diego Jam. It's rated around 94-95% strength, stronger than a palomar even, and just as easy to tie. It's stronger than an improved clinch, either regular or double, by far. That's for a direct connection to a hook or a lure. It's the strongest knot out there in my experience. The other 5% I'll use a palomar. If I'm tying in a leader, I use an FG knot(braid main line) or double uni (Mono main line). I've had double uni knots fail when using braided main line(on the cast) because of the lack of stretch, and I've ended up losing several expensive lures because of it. I've been tying the knot for years so I know how to tie it properly without having it weaken itself. I've never had a failure with an FG knot with braided main line and a fluoro leader. I use anywhere from 15lb to 30lb braid when I'm using fluorocarbon leaders. The only other time I find myself tying a uni knot is when I'm spooling a reel, or as a backing to main line knot. Just for simplicity sake. It's a very quick and easy connection knot but I lack some confidence in it as a terminal knot.
Thanks for the clip its the best one I have ever seen showing a uni knot. I have used this knot for years when saltwater fishing but as my eye sight has got worst over the years I am going to start using it more when freshwater fishing once learnt it can be tied under poor light conditions. Thanks again.
Tie a man's Uni knot and he will fish for a day or until he gets hung up and has to break his line off; teach a man to tie the Uni knot and he will fish for a lifetime.
You mean to directly knot lures to the line? I rather use the rapala knot, because it gives the lure much more freedom to move: you'll cast further and avoid spinning lines.
You have to replay the video a few times, however once you get used to it, its a piece of cake. Was a bit confused at first too. If you need, there are pictoral versions as well if you search google or pintrest.
I asked a friend who commercial fish for grouper what knot he used he showed me a uni but I had already been using it long time. Polamor and Snell are other methods people use with braid and flourcarbon but I like uni . Great video 👍
I use the uni on everything and it's the perfect nail knot for slip bobber fishing! Its easy to use easy to teach and is more versatile then all the others I've seen and tried ! ! ! Thanks for the vid. 🥃cheers🍻

Matt Ganci Very true.

One does not simply uni knot
FG not is way better for braid to leader, strong and very low profile for passing through line guides on the rod.
This is an excellent video presentation by a professional person. Black background, coloured lines, and clear audio. Congratulations! I keep viewing this video time and time again, it's so good.

You have to replay the video a few times, however once you get used to it, its a piece of cake. Was a bit confused at first too. If you need, there are pictoral versions as well if you search google or pintrest.
Aawww man I did something like the double uni a while back and I thought I'd invented something new lol, me and my buddies called the spinarette
I tried to find tying of fishing knots and this is the best video so far....kudos to you my good sir!!
Danny Vasquez Thank you Danny...I did quite a few videos. Some already out and some on the way. Enjoy and share

I asked a friend who commercial fish for grouper what knot he used he showed me a uni but I had already been using it long time. Polamor and Snell are other methods people use with braid and flourcarbon but I like uni . Great video 👍

Your video allowed me to master the knot this weekend. I didn't have to wait for someone else to do my knots. Thank you for this video

Great video. Presented very well. I remember my Dad teaching me that knot when we would fish in Santa Cruz. Great memories.
Great video and demonstration. Saltwater experience is my favorite fishing show too.
