Mostly because of the higher interest rates lately, but also because the cheaper cars available in other markets aren’t available in the US. The only US EV’s under $30k (Bolt and Leaf) are going out of production for awhile.

    Really interesting video! Starbucks seems like an ideal type of place someone would want to hang out for 30 minutes or so to get a charge.
    Hermiston, Oregon Starbucks chargers get blocked all the time by gas drivers. Starbucks needs to talk to store management to keep their employees from blocking the chargers and local PD to enforce ICEing laws.

    My take is that more chargers are always welcome, but a lot of the Starbucks chargers are very close to Electrify America chargers which is only useful if the EA is full, or broken since the EA has 150kW, or 350kW and at least some of the Starbucks are listed at 50kW. I would prefer that they were staggered so there were less miles between them instead of going 130 miles and then both are together. In Hermiston and La Grande they are about a mile apart.
    I did that route in my ID.4 using EA because I wasn’t able to use the I-90 route I normally use going to Green Bay and Chicago in my previous Tesla. Tesla has the best routing software bar none. Tesla will tell you how much charge you need to get to the destination with the buffer you are comfortable with before you unplug. And if you encounter a headwind or something that causes an issue, it will tell you to slow down to a speed that you will make it. VW just lets you go along and then says you can’t make it. Both times I did get to the next charger, but it causes stress. Good to see Volvo is putting effort into their routing and making it stress free

  • @emmalab02
    @emmalab02 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great video, but again Jill’s lead foot makes it hard to get a consistent read on battery efficiency/fuel economy across vehicles tested by your channel. I get that she lives in Chiraq where I was born and 10-15mph over is the norm, but the rest of us live elsewhere and travel 5-7mph over the speed limit. In transportation terms, 10-15 over the posted highway speed is roughly the 85th-90th percentile of driver speeds depending on the location, but that’s unrealistic to expect to do all of the time and certainly mars the efficiency quoted and tested by these manufacturers who provide vehicles for the channel to write about. Set a protocol for your drivers to go no more than a certain speed above the posted speed limit so that your data has more validity and consistency.

      It doesn't always work if you're in a city either. I rent and don't have a home charger. Where EVs work the best is with regular home charging and keep the battery between 20% and 80% charge. But if you need to take a road trip, the infrastructure should be supported on major highways. And, just because you stop at a Starbucks doesn't mean you have to buy a Starbucks -- just like if you stop at a gas station, it doesn't mean you need to go in and buy snacks. 🤷🏻‍♀

    Disappointed that this was a typical EV road trip by someone who does not know how to road trip an EV. This was obviously designed to just show off as many Starbucks stopping points as possible. Everyone complaining about how much faster their ice vehicle would be needs to realize That those of us that road trip EV‘s can do a 600 mile road trip in an EV designed for road trips and only take about a half an hour or 45 minutes longer than the typical ice vehicle if both vehicles are driving the speed limit And you make regular stops for bathroom stops and eating.

      cold range will cause all EV's to drop dramatically.. and 32 degrees is far from cold.. just wait until temps drop into the teens. Tesla is the best for this, and by far. Most EV's, outside of Tesla, will drop close to 40% in range with typical winter temps

    • @jillciminillo
      @jillciminillo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe I've done a review of the F-150 Lightning in the winter, and you're right, it kinda sucks. But I strongly believe the infrastructure is the problem, not the EV range. If you knew you could "fuel up" every 30 miles along a highway (like gas vehicles), it would be NBD. But when you have to drive 130 miles or more to charge, it's not great. And when you have a vehicle that can't accurately gauge the temperature and give you real range, it's worse.

But it's also a car not fit for an actual winter, or harsh winter driving. I'd rather drive a capable vehicle and put up with resistant heat range (plus it resists salt corrosion).
