Fun Fact regarding pushing a vehicle. The origin of the terms First class, Second class and Third class for travel (perhaps an anecdotal urban legend). On a stagecoach in the US, 3rd class, got out and pushed the stagecoach if stuck in the mud, 2nd class had to get out of the stagecoach and walk if stuck in mud but didn't have to push the stagecoach, first class could stay in the stagecoach when stuck in the mud while 3rd class pushed the stagecoach.
I drove my 2020 XC40 almost 2,000 miles from TX to CA….in July….in 116° heat…in 2.5 days…and it was comfortable and flawless and easy to drive. Great road trip car.
I am not surprised you were not always seeing max charging speeds even with battery preconditioning. It is winter. I personally prefer the more relaxed pace of EV travel/charging and usually find the car is ready to go before I am when I do charge on a road trip. I am also usually ready for a road break long before the car needs it.
The updated Polestar 2 has the hardware updates that these Volvos receive. As for special charging pricing, it's unlikely since they are *technically* separate here in the U.S., but you never know. But these are also standard charging stations so any EV could charge at them.
Too much talk about Starbucks not enough about charging. And no experienced EV driver whatever sit around and wait for their car to charge 100% unless there were no other charging options between their location and their next destination. Makes owning an electric vehicle a much worse road tripping experience than it is for those people Who are thinking about purchasing one
She's like, archetypical millennial. Quite the contrast to Craig's classic old-timey demeanor. It's like shopping with skinny jeans and chunky cardigans on the same rack.
This is the definition of hell. Having to constantly go to Starbucks. And while I like the XC40 recharge, up here in Canada it's easily 10-13k more than the Model Y. OVERPRICED.
Nice video! Would've liked to see a bit more detail on the actual charging experiences...plugging in, payment, what the screens on the charger and/or car show etc. Otherwise entertaining and a good way to learn not to eat egg white bites.
Hi! Great comment. If you've ever used a ChargePoint charger, you'll be familiar with this experience. It's basically identical, aside from some Volvo and Starbucks branding on the cabinets. For payment, we just used the ChargePoint app, so you plug the vehicle in, tap your phone and you're off to the races. As we mentioned in the video, everything worked perfectly on this trip (as it should, since everything is brand new), which was a pleasant surprise. Thanks for watching and commenting! - Craig
@@hp-fx9pvIt does show the same active route on both screens in dark blue, just the main screen shows a couple of alternate routes in light blue as well. You can select an alternate route by tapping it or choosing it from the list of available routes.
You are always a great presenter in the EV Pulse videos but as we learned in this one, so is Eileen! So nice to see two very positive, fun and clever people who work well together, and the two of you have great energy together--it was really entertaining and fun, and I hope the two of you regroup for other similar videos down the line. Looks like Volvo did a nice job with these 2 vehicles--did you mention price? And yes, Volvo always seems to have really comfortable seats, don't they, and on a long trip, that is a Godsend. Well done Volvo and Craig/Eileen!
That was a fun road trip, and Eileen was a hoot! More than anything, I came away with a bit of a crush on her. Of the 15 Starbucks locations, which ones were the best and which could use improvement? Did Volvo-Starbucks say why some locations had 2 chargers, and others had 4? Why are there such big power differences, like Hermiston Oregon is 62kW but Nampa Idaho is 200kW?
Hi! Great questions. We didn't hit up every Starbucks location, as we didn't need to, but all the stores we did visit were in great condition. I wouldn't say any of them need improvement. As for the number of chargers and their performance, I believe those variables have to do with space and power availability. Some Starbucks stores have very tight parking lots, and I imagine they didn't want to allocate too many spaces to EV chargers. Hope that helps! - Craig
If Starbucks and Volvo were putting in these charging stations at all Starbucks locations all across the country, I would be more excited, but it’s just along ONE route, from Denver and that is a bit odd. It is better than nothing but that’s about it.
More charging infrastructure is definitely needed along that route. It is not Interstate highway and therefore neither Tesla nor Electrify America have built anything. Both those providers only build charging sites along Interstate highways, ignoring US or State highways and that needs to change! @@irenecheca6575

I've found that to be true, also; I'm usually don't charging before I finish my snack.
I've learned more about snacks and coffee than trip with EV from this video. Or maybe I have learned that long trip with EV means a lot of snacks.
Absolutely love Eileen, I need more of her!
Eileen is really good at this.
We need more Eileen!
Pretty cool! Don't think I've seen any yet here in Canada
I wonder if Polestar will get the same benefits that solve tv's will or might get with this Volve charging network

Er, that would be Richland WA.

Do not charge to 100%….80% and be on your way with chargers every 100 miles…it’s faster and better bladder breaks.
Practice eating in front of a mirror please because it looks like nobody ever taught you to chew with your mouth closed.

Good feedback. Thank you.

Eileen is a delight. Thanks.
She's wonderful! Thanks for watching.

She was fun. You should do a return trip with the pickup lady as she might have more a technical overview.
The Google automotive nav was giving you optional routes, it's not a multimedia glitch
Ah, good to know. I've never knew it actually did that.
Thanks!

That’s kind of dumb and confusing! It should be the same route on both screens, hopefully it’s programmable to do that.

She’s right though! If there not a “no u-turn” sign and safe to do, it’s legal!
I don’t like how you are encouraging people to charge to 100%. When I rented a c40 it takes so much time to charge from 80 to 100%
As a general rule we don’t, for that reason (and others) but this trip was a little different with charging stops combined with food stops.

Richland, WA not Richmond
Thank you for this content.
“Thicker than in the past I’ve had it, I don’t know exactly how it’s going to measure up” 😅
That would be Richland, WA! I charged at that same charger a week ago at Starbucks in Seattle.
Kudos to Starbucks on joining in on this partnership. Smart move in their part!

It more needed through that strecht, very little infrastructure there

Is their any idea if the Starbucks Chargers will make their way eastward?
Volvo hasn't said anything concrete, but we'd imagine if this works out that it'll expand. This is likely a test to see if it can be done reliably.
